If women are expected to donate eggs and a uterus, men should donate their penis and testicles?

I see from the comments here people are happy for women alive and dead to donate, if that's ok then why aren't transmen being offered the same primary sex organs?

Is what's good enough for the cervix haver is good enough for the ejaculator?

No, what is beyond me is that you think that all transwomen have ill intentions.

If a man has that much of a mental illness that they think they are literally born in the wrong body, no I don't think they should be facilitated in that fantasy and certainly not put a baby at risk by implanting a womb into their body. It is utter madness.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/02/2019 13:58

Reading the article:

"It comes after doctors in Brazil delivered the world's first baby from a womb transplant that was given to a woman from a deceased donor last year.
Now surgeon Christopher Inglefield, founder of the London Transgender Clinic, believes transgender women deserve a uterus implant.
He says the procedure is 'essentially identical' to the one performed on women."

WTAF? That's completely bonkers Grin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/02/2019 14:01

"He said births would most likely be delivered by cesarean section in order to safeguard the child."

[GRIN]

Are they planning on linking the implanted womb to a pseudovagina?

Most transwomen don't have "bottom" surgery so for sure a CS would be required Grin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/02/2019 14:06

This surgeon shows an utteraly misogynistic attitude, which is v common, around pregnancy and birth.

As with breast milk / formula, scientists (usually men) assume that women aren't really doing anything special and they can do it just the same if not better.

The complex interactions during pregnancy are barely known or understood, and here we have men saying OH just stick a womb in a chap and feed them some extra hormones job done no problems.

This is misogyny. It does not consider that there could be anything that a womans body does in pregnancy that a mans could not if you stick a womb in him.

It ties in well with the attitudes and language around surrogacy, apparently another "right" for those who have voluntarily been sterilised / have kids already as a man and want to have another "as a woman".

goldengummybear · 10/02/2019 14:06

I want fairy wings.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/02/2019 14:07

Sorry last bit was wrong.

It's men who see surrogacy as a "right"
See efforts to get the law changed here to allow for commercial surrogacy

Whole topic is a disaster for women, sorry, uterus bearers / breed stock.

gamerwidow · 10/02/2019 14:18

Organ donation does not assume blanket consent there is already the option to opt out of all sorts of organs and I’m sure should this become common place the opt outs will be updated to include this.
There is no need for anyone to be removing themselves from the donor list for this. Final consent isn’t even given by the donor it’s given by the donors family. Make sure your family know your wishes no doctor is going to start taking bits off of you without their consent.
How many trans women would even consider this surgery? It’s extremely invasive and would require a life time of anti rejection drugs for little benefit. If most trans women are not even having gender reassignment this doesn’t feel like something that’s ever going to be a massive issue.

gamerwidow · 10/02/2019 14:20

Whose to say there aren’t teams working on transplanting testicles to transmen anyway. I’d be surprised if absolutely no one in the scientific community was looking at this for men with testicular issues of not for women at the very least...

NothingOnTellyAgain · 10/02/2019 14:24

" If most trans women are not even having gender reassignment this doesn’t feel like something that’s ever going to be a massive issue."

You wouldn't need gender reassignment surgery for this to work,if they could do it.

I also find it weird they focus on transgender women.

I know men who are super family oriented who would like to have a baby if they could.

It renders birth as for people who "identify as women".
While the ideology at the same time disagrees that biological sex is relevant to anything.

So having babies is a "feminine" thing to do.
Maybe they can take the wombs from butch lesbians?

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/02/2019 14:35

Everything Nothingonthetelly said.

Males and females have specific reproductive roles that are mutually exclusive and it is not bigoted to say so. Nature does not victimise anybody by making them one sex class or t'other.

Thinking you're above nature and can just juggle the sex classes about for your own vanity project is the height of narcissistic psychopathy. Transpeople can have as many children as they like providing they have not rendered themselves infertile (or have naturally occuring infertility of course, but then they are in the same boat as anybody else who suffers infertility). Transmen being unable to impregnate and transwomen being unable to gestate are not problems that need solving, in fact they are just not problems, full stop. Our bodies do not come on a mix and match basis and whilst middle class white women are probably not going to be coerced into giving their reproductive systems to anybody else, history tells us that once there is a demand for body parts, poor women of colour often end up supplying them.

Women in Nepal, (because they have light skin), are being drugged and having the skin from their backs flayed off so that it can be sold to be used in cosmetic procedures so that rich people don't have to suffer the scarring of skin grafts. Often these women have already been trafficked and prostituted. Even entertaining the idea that men should be able to get uteruses if they so desire one opens a gateway for horrific abuse of women. The only saving grace is that they will never be able to get a male body to gestate a baby, it's too complex and you would literally need to change the body into a female one, which is impossible. Artificial wombs outside of the body are more likely and we are nowhere near that either.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/02/2019 17:19

@LuggsaysNotaWomen

That is horrific!

I had no idea that this extra level of abuse had been added to the already iniquitous treatment of these poor, trafficked women. As you rightly say, any opportunity to make even more money from them will be gleefully grabbed by their abusers.

There are some absolute bastards out there.

CallMeWoman · 10/02/2019 20:41

I am horrified. I assume those women don't receive appropriate medical care after they've been skinned.

I'm so sick of the abuse women receive.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/02/2019 21:02

Nope. Not only do they do not get medical care, often they receive no money in compensation and if they are prostituted, it often means they can no longer command much of an asking price because the scarring is so horrific and so are further forced into poverty. Many of these women are "indebted" to their pimps and so they are trapped into a cycle of slavery and abuse.

I honestly couldn't give a shit if a tranwomen wants to gestate but can't. Sorrynotsorry. It's not a tragedy, it's a benign fact of nature. Carving up women for the use of others is beyond evil and I for one will never celebrate science that leads us to further dissection of the female.

sue51 · 10/02/2019 22:34

Wouldn't a donated uterus have to be plumbed in to function? I don't see how this could work on someone born make.

sue51 · 10/02/2019 22:34

Male not make.

GunpowderGelatine · 10/02/2019 22:36

I removed myself from the organ donor register some time ago in anticipation of this. Extreme? Perhaps. But a man performing lady face is not getting the womb I carried my children in

MidniteScribbler · 10/02/2019 22:44

Well I could see the point of replacing a penis or testicles lost through injury, say.

They can already implant a false testicle in men who have had one removed for any reason. Of course, it doesn't produce sperm, but it does what it needs to do.

'Functioning' testicles and wombs being transplanted are not something that I see necessary to spend any research money on. There are a million other medical issues that need attention before this, and I would have no respect for any medical professional pursuing this over other issues.

I think this might be what being unpeaktrannsed feels like.

I personally would not support womb transplants for either men or women I think.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/02/2019 08:40

Riddley the reason for this article is because a successful womd transplant has been done (on a female person).

Interested to know why you object.

gamerwidow · 11/02/2019 09:50

So you won’t be accepting any donor organs for you or your family from a dead woman should your organs fail I hope.
No one is carving up anyone. We’re not talking about ripping uteruses out of live women. What stupidly emotive language. If you don’t want to donate any part of your body I support your right to choose that but to imply this is about butchering women is just nonsense.

gamerwidow · 11/02/2019 09:53

Is the situation in Nepal is horrific but it is the illegal trafficking that needs to be addressed rather than saying no more transplants for anyone. If women are at risk of their organs being traded theyre at risk as much for their kidneys and corneas as their wombs you can’t conflate the two issues.

WhatHaveYou · 11/02/2019 09:53

There has been talk of transmen donating their uterus to transwomen. Transwomen keep their testicles and penis on the whole so no offers of reciprocal donations.

@gamerwidow

Spot on!

Whether organ donation is opt-in/opt-out, we all still have a choice. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything.

My opinion is that organ donation is a no-brainer. I'm not religious and my body is completely useless to me when I'm dead so if I can help someone in need then so much the better. Yes, that includes my penis and testicles, what good are they to me when I'm gone! This seems to have become a Women Vs Men Vs Trans thread which I don't think is necessary. I'm fairly sure that, if the donation of a woman's eggs and uterus (with their consent) becomes common place that 'essential' operations using donated organs will be prioritised over gender reassignment ones.
