Baby shower guests being charged for food??

So I got an invite to a baby shower for a friend... but the organiser( and mum to be) are charging for food and drinks..

The few baby showers that I’ve been to, I took a present, but never paid for the nibbles..

My friend has already set up a baby wish list so I’ll hacd to get something from there once bsby is born..

So what is the etiquette these days for the baby shower gifting? Do I pay for food and take a present? And then buy from baby wish list aswell??

Back in my time 8 yrs ago, i just did a shower at home that I paid for, few friends came and we played games.. gifts were given once bsby arrived..

An ex-friend had the baby shower, the birth and the Christening; each with their own 'wish' lists including things for the mum. I think the cheapest thing on the list was £10. There was actually a silver plated rattle which I think was decorative! For the baby shower and Christening we also paid for meal and drinks.

I think it's very grabby.

Are you generally a people pleaser type?

So now I don’t really want to spend a lot again as I have been asked to only get presents from the bsby gifts list as she doesn’t want things that she won’t be able to use..

So stop being such a wet lettuce and don't go! Simple, really, she has form for being a CF. You should have stopped a long time ago. Grow a spine at last, decline and send her whatever gift you like once the baby is here.

To everyone saying ‘it’s a meal on a pub so surely you’d pay for yourself’ - if the invites say ‘food £15 a head’ then that sounds very much like they’re charging guests for a buffet, which is pretty shitty hosting as far as I’m concerned. Either host at home and do the food yourself, or have a more informal gathering where people can order/pay for what they want.

Nice meal where you choose your own dish and pay for yourself = fine

Paying out £15 for a (probably rubbish) buffet = not fine
