Was I unreasonable to tell him to shower?

9:48pm and I’ve just told my DP to go have a shower. He’s “worked” from home since Wednesday so sat all day on his laptop “working” then when 5pm comes, the laptop goes off and he retreats to the bedroom to play either his MacBook or Xbox. He hasn’t showered since Tuesday.

He did the same today and has just come in the living room saying he had finished playing the Xbox and it was “us” time now. I was a bit pussed off by this and told him he stank and to go get a wash. He just got up and left the living room, I don’t even think he’s went into the shower...I think he’s went back to the computer Confused

I do feel quite bad for being abrupt with him but he’s 37 years old so shouldn’t need to be “told” when to shower.

Was I unreasonable?

PCohle I’m afraid I have no idea what you’re trying to say.

BitOutOfPractice I think you’ll find that my use of that semi-colon was entirely correct. It’s used to indicate that you’re about to make a point.
You’re the one who is coming across as an “arsehole,” and if we’re being pedantic, there should be a comma after “arsehole.”
I’m assuming you were using “by the way” as a parenthetical clause??
Oh and, the phrase is actually, “just for the avoidance of doubt.”
You’re welcome Grin

No ICould - you're the one behaving like an arsehole and derailing the thread for no reason at all, other than to look down smugly on the OP. Not really sure why considering the use of the word 'went' is totally fine.

You can spout what you consider to be clever grammatical points at me all you like iCloud. It's wasted on me as I'm not claiming to be a grammar guru, to care about it in this context, and it only serves to enhance your arseholian credentials.

As it happens I write for a living but, unlike you I realise that the writing I do professionally and how and what I write on a message board are 2 different things. Sometimes perfect grammar and punctuation are vital. Sometimes, when people are writing quickly, colloquially and under stress, it matters not so much. So long as they are understood. Which the op clearly was.
