Hello. (Sorry posting here for traffic!!)

Me and DH has decided to try for baby 3 so today my Depo Contraception injection has ended.
I've spoken to the nurse and she just said that it can take up to 18 months for my body to go back to normal but for most people it's about nine months.
Probably a stupid question but how will I know when my body is ready to start trying again? Would an ovulation test work here? Not sure how they work?
How long has it taken other people?
Is there any side effects I should worry about?
Basically any more information would be received gratefully!!

Mine took about three years to starting having regular periods. It also depends how long you're on the injection for. Best of luck OP

belleandsnowwhite · 08/02/2019 09:40

It took 2 years for my periods to return.

hastingsmua1 · 08/02/2019 09:52

@Andromeida59 and @belleandsnowwhite, how long were you having the depo injections?

unicornsarereal1 · 08/02/2019 10:07

I'd had the injection for a year ... I came off it and was pregnant within 2 months

FiveRedBricks · 08/02/2019 10:08

Your periods will be regular. Horrible form of contraception tbh. It can really fuck up your cycle for so long after :(

PurpleCrazyHorse · 08/02/2019 10:13

I became pregnant really quickly afterwards, a few months but we weren't really trying iyswim. We basically ditched the contraception and let things take their course. Had it taken loads longer I would have looked at ovulation strips or similar to try to gauge my cycle better and increase our chances.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 08/02/2019 10:13

I didn't have the injections for long though, probably a year. I was on other contraception and changed.

Actually I didn't like the injections and switched to the implant after having DS.

belleandsnowwhite · 08/02/2019 10:28

I had them for 8 years.

MessyMummy15 · 08/02/2019 15:31

Sorry perhaps I should have put. Was on injection for just under two years

I was on depo for 6 years. My periods came back in 6 week.

Best of luck. X x

Dutch1e · 08/02/2019 17:36

I got pregnant while on Depo. It was a bit surprising as I'd read that failure rate was 1/1000 and even that was just to allow for people who were a bit late with their new jab.

After the baby was born my periods went back to normal pretty quickly (allowing for breastfeeding) so you might be lucky

PseudoQuim · 10/02/2019 11:46

I was on it for about 11 years, then went onto the pill for a while before we started ttc. My period came back pretty much straight away. Mind you, that could be my body's way as I had my first period after having my son 4/4.5 weeks after he was born and the midwife and nurse were surprised it was so quick.

xxelle94xx · 19/02/2019 21:49

Hi guys, first time I've posted on here but seems to be the best place to ask.
Has anyone been changed from the depo injection to the sayana press injection (I still go to the doctors for it, not self injecting), and had problems with it? If so what were the problems please and how long did they last?

mushlett · 19/02/2019 21:55

I was on it for nearly 10 years so when I was 2 weeks overdue I thought it would be fine. The result was my DD

Barbie0907 · 24/03/2019 22:57

I've been on depo for 7 years now, I always get my period for the entire month before my next shot. I only experienced a tiny bit of spotting for less then an hr. This, was a few weeks ago. I still have yet to get my period. My boobs have increase by at least 1 full cup. My husband said my nipples got bigger too. I can really tell they're bigger when I go down the stairs. Sometimes here an there I get like super mild like cramping in my lower abdominal area. Some of the things I like to eat are just well, they dont taste good. I getheadacheshere an there. An way worseheartburnthen i used to have. Sometimes I wake up nauseated. But dont puke. An random times throughout the day I get nauseated an dont puke. Some things smell super strong an good. I'm tired all the time. My very lower back hurts more often, an my leg muscles are just bleh right now. An a clear discharge pretty consistently. Still have yet to get a positive test. Haven't tested in a week since.

Hi.

My depo ran out on the 4th July and yesterday I had spotting and still bleeding today but its light and only when wiping.
Its 4 weeks since it ran out that I started bleeding.. Is this a period or is it just getting out of my system?

Wishihad · 02/08/2019 16:42

I never got regular periods back. They were all over the place for 16 months then I got pregnant. Both time TTC it took 16 months

Wishihad · 02/08/2019 16:44

Didnt realise it was a zombie.

@CARLEA it would be best to start your own thread Smile

Need help! I’ve been on the injection 2 years, been off it 6 months and had my first ‘period’ which lasted around 4 days and was quite light then 2 weeks after I started bleeding again which was also light and lasted around 4 days, is this normal?

AliBear90 · 25/02/2020 19:00

My periods never came back after over a year, I was only on the injection for about a year. After searching for advice I found out going on the pill can help. I went on the pill for one month, got a period in the “break” and never went back to taking the pills. Didn’t get my period when due the next month and found out it was because I was pregnant with my now 9 month old baby. So if you don’t get periods back and feel like it’s a struggle I’d advise the pill for a month or 2 to regulate your cycle again. Not sure how it works but it did for me.

Herjbr26 · 26/04/2020 16:29

Hi I was wondering if and looking for advice I started the pill about July 2018 - April/may 2019 I have had the first “fake period” that u get when u finish the pill then I went a while without the had one in June my prom. then I spotted in August and September I think and November I had brown discharge for 2/3 days then I had the same discharge 21-24th April but the first day it was pink then got a little red in it then went brown when I checked my knickers and have had nothing since then, is this normal? and any advice how to regulate/get my period back? I’m not pregnant as I took a test I just don’t fancy going to the doctor I have bad anxiety and don’t want to be getting needles and tested unless I really need to ! I was just seeing if you know anything to bring it back? Before I do end up having to book an appointment many thanks.

Blozza · 26/04/2020 16:36

Hi OP,

The final time I went on the depo as contraceptive Was for 2 years. It took about a years for my period to come back and another 9-12 months for it to regulate properly. However, it completely varies woman to woman though and although we can all give you times and advice on when ours started regulating again, it might not be the case at all for you.

Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long for it too come back though, all the best with TTC 😊 x

Herjbr26 · 27/04/2020 07:22
