to think that astrology is a load of rubbish

Broke up with "D"P last night because I was sick of being dismissed and called names, went in to work today, and a colleague of mine (who is his mate) came up to me and said that she has heard about what happened. Okay, fair enough.

The problem is that she proceeded to tell me that I shouldn't be so harsh on him because "that's just the way it is with scorpios"??? She's always used horoscopes to explain behaviours/personalities which doesn't bother me but using it in this context really pisses me off.

I don't know if it's a compounding of everything that has happened today or if I'm just particularly sensitive, so Mumsnet rant it is before I say something to her that I'll regret. Maybe I'm the one that's being ridiculous about everything.

Well, that's a new one on me for excusing/justifying behaviour. Perhaps you might want to say, 'Oh dear, it's a shame, but I'm a (whatever your star sign is), and not putting up with this crap is just the way we (whatever your starsign is) are. . .'?

Obviously yes it’s a load of rubbish. But even if she was right, “That’s how it is with Scorpios”??? I’d be thinking I’d be steering clear of Scorpios in that case!

If there’s a group of people who cannot help name-calling etc because of when they were born, well fine, but it doesn’t mean you’re obliged to stick around and put up with it!

I dunno, I think there’s something to it.
I don’t believe in weekly horoscopes etc but I do know a lot of people who easily fit in with their star sign.

I used to work with someone who was really good at it and could guess everyone’s signs just from watching their personality traits.

No, you’re right, it is absolute rubbish and she was being dismissive of the real situation. How are swathes of people with diverse backgrounds who just happen to be born in the same month so alike to these people who buy into this crap? Such utter rubbish!!

Nobody gets away with treating others badly ‘because of their star sign’ - how ridiculous.

Well as a Pisces I'm just too dreamy and serene to let this get to me. Scorpios are terrible though, YABU for being in a relationship with him in the first place.

Obviously there’s way more to it than a star sign. Nature, nuture ect all help define a personality. But I do also think there’s something to it. My star sign traits describe me perfectly.

Total bullshit - akin to all religion really, just giving humans something to cling on to to try & make sense of their short, insignificant lives on a tiny planet in a tiny galaxy in a massive universe (in which the movement of the few tiny planets in their immediate vicinity on which entire the nonsense is based on makes all the difference to their personality!). Very odd.

I've always disliked my star sign (Virgo) and was delighted to find out that since astrology again, some 3000 years ago the constellations have moved. NASA has even rewritten the horoscope;

I am an astronomer and people often think I mean I do astrology instead. Which makes for some awkward conversations. One mum I knew once asked me if I could 'do her chart' when I bumped into her in Sainsbury's. I was too embarrassed to explain she had the wrong end of the stick so scurried off and been avoiding her ever since.

I’ve never believed in it because I am in no way representative of what my sign “should” be (Leo).

However, I did date a Gemini who was exactly everything a Gemini “should” be Grin.

So maybe it’s just me!

Even if astrology were correct (which it totally totally isn’t). “You should carry on in a relationship with a twat who treats you badly because his star sign means he’s simply afflicted with a vile personality and it’s not really his fault” is the WORST ADVICE EVER.
