Posting for traffic as i need help. I have decided to stop drinking. No amount of telling myself I can have it Fridays and Saturdays oh and a midweek tipple but then again it's Thursday now has helped. Sunday is the last day of the week and Monday is depressing and so on. When I drink I have a bottle of wine and then I over eat. I have put on almost 5 stone in 3 years. No bashing just helpful advice please. There maybe reasons I do this but to me there are no more excuses. Thanks

I drank a lot over the last 2 years to help me 'wind down', 'relax' etc. I am working and one of my DC is severely disabled. So no down time at all. in the end, I had at least half a bottle each night, often more.

I now just went cold turkey. No alcohol in the house at all so I cannot be tempted. Told DP not to buy anymore!

I haven't had a drop since new year's eve. The first 2 weeks were hard but now I don't really miss it anymore and I sleep a lot better.

Seeleyboo

Well done OP you are going good.

I could have wrote your post a year ago. I sat down one day went through my just eat account and was almost sick when I realised how much I’d spent and all the healthy food I was throwing away each week. Then there was the cost of the wine! I justified the takeaways because I fibro etc, so feeling too unwell to cook. But I have teens who can cook well! So it’s no excuse.

A year down the road I may have one drink mid week when dp comes over, and 2 on the weekend. Some weeks I have none at all. Some I have my drink and don’t finish it. This last month I’ve had 4 drinks if that!
The takeaways are once a month now. Instead we make a pizza and make fresh curry’s. We enjoy them more. It will get easier. The habit will stop. Smile

Well done Seelyboo
Well done for sticking to your plan.
Best of luck

Amazing! I have cut down in the last few months.
I now only have a glass on Friday and finish the bottle Saturday. It was a massive step for me.
My next challenge is to go a weekend without a drink, but I need to be ready for that. I'm not yet.

Keep going

Well done!
Do you feel better for it?

Russell brands 12 steps book is bloody great I got it on audible during my free trial and have really enjoyed listening to it, may be helpful for you. Well done on your success Smile

I drink slimline tonic water with ice and lemon and I almost trick myself into thinking it’s a G&T. I put it in a nice glass and everything. Still feels like a ‘treat’.

I like super malt - sweet and makes me feel like I'm drinking Guinness. Not to everyone's taste though and full of sugar. Sparkling water in a wine glass.

Well done op, that’s fantastic! Have you thought about putting the money you would have spent on wine and takeaway to one side and using some of it each week for a treat - manicure, massage, new book, beautiful bunch of flowers. Just something to reward yourself for doing so well.

You’ll be at a week tomorrow - bloody well done! Flowers
