To think nobody likes the salad bit on the side?

You know when you go into a cafe and order a sandwich, or jacket potato and other snack, and when it comes there is a tiny bit of basic salad on the side? AIBU to think no one actually wants that? It is simply a way to make it look a bit nicer and thus charge us more money?

I like the salad (minus tomatoes), it's the coleslaw I can't stand.

LordPickle · 31/01/2019 12:16

Wtf at most of these responses! Shock I've never eaten the manky salad on the side, it doesn't even have dressing on it ffs. I can't eat dry lettuce.

KnitterOfSocks · 31/01/2019 12:16

I like the salad as well.

hazandduck · 31/01/2019 12:16

Ditto @waspnest I love the salad but it is often ruined by the coleslaw that just seeps in to everything, bleugh.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 31/01/2019 12:16

I quite like it with a sandwich of a bit of quiche as another texture, but I hate it with hot food. It always comes with baked potatoes and I usually have beans on mine. Salad and baked beans are not friends 🤢.

shumway · 31/01/2019 12:17

Crisps garnish is much better.

Camomila · 31/01/2019 12:17

I like it too, especially if they've jazzed it up with some raw peppers or something.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/01/2019 12:17

I pick the bits I like out but the lettuce usually isn't very nice

Elllicam · 31/01/2019 12:18

I like the salad but not the dressing/coleslaw/weird potato salad.

hazandduck · 31/01/2019 12:18

I had no idea it was such a divisive issue 😂

rightreckoner · 31/01/2019 12:18

I’m with you Mary. Pointless damp leaves. Ugh.

A nice watercress salad - with salmon and new potatoes and a nice dressing , made at home, really nice. A pointless plonk of nasty lettuce on a plate for no reason - ugh.

UnaOfStormhold · 31/01/2019 12:18

I'm with cottonsock - it's nice unless they add raw onion!

OffToBedhampton · 31/01/2019 12:18

I love the salad on the side. I enjoy eating it, makes it a nicer small meal. I can get a plain sandwich from Tesco's and eat that at my desk. In a cafe, I want my sarnie to come with side rocket leaf, a tomato and frothy coffee

OutPinked · 31/01/2019 12:19

Depends on the salad really. Wagamama’s katsu curry wouldn’t be the same without the delicious side salad however I once ate in Morrisons cafe and their side salad looked like it bore lysteria.

Bluelady · 31/01/2019 12:20

I like it, it adds a bit of interest. Where's the nutritional value in crisps? They're just wasted calories.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 31/01/2019 12:20

#saladwars Grin

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 31/01/2019 12:21

I love it. I eat mine and dh’s.

Valkyries · 31/01/2019 12:21

I like salad but i always ask them to hold the rabbit food in these instances - they know what I mean Grin

Tinty · 31/01/2019 12:21

I love a side salad, I am always disappointed if it is just a sandwich without side salad. I love going out for lunch with my DH because he hates salad, I always have his and mine and give him half of my sandwich as swoppsies. I would eat quarter of the sandwich and a ton of salad given the choice.

Reading this you would be forgiven for thinking that I am super slim healthy and fit. Nope, I love Salad and vegetables and eat absolutely loads, sadly I also love chocolate and cake, so my Salad eating healthiness is negated by copious amounts of chocolate and cake. Grin

SD1978 · 31/01/2019 12:21

I eat it because I feel obliged to. It's never a 'real' salad- it's garnish with a little bit more in it. If I ordered an actual salad and out came a leaf of lettuce, three rounds out of an onions (red of course) three bits of Roma tomato and a vinegetette dressing is be bloody disappointed. I eat it to try and pretend the chips and pie I've just inhaled contained some 'good' nutrients too 😂😂😂

NannyRed · 31/01/2019 12:23

If it’s a nice salad I enjoy it.

ProbablyMyMillionthNameChange · 31/01/2019 12:25

i like it. I get annoyed if it's served with no salad

Tinty · 31/01/2019 12:25

but I hate it with hot food. It always comes with baked potatoes and I usually have beans on mine. Salad and baked beans are not friends

Mmm jacket potato, beans and salad, lovely, I have been known to have a side salad (at home), with curry. Blush.

I am having it tonight with chilli. Grin

Tattybear16 · 31/01/2019 12:25

I love a bit of token salad on the side, sometimes it’s better than the sandwich, coleslaw not so much.

E20mom · 31/01/2019 12:28

I Like it too
