About bridesmaid dresses (BTW I know I am not)

Ok so I may have been a bit clickbaity but I am getting so frustrated.

3 adult bridesmaids, we are paying for the dresses budget of £80 each. One size 8 petite, 2 size 16/18s.

All I want is sage green dresses with sleeves (don't mind if they are 1/2 full length or 3/4), all bridesmaids happy with the style. I am basically totally flexible on length and on embellishments...

I can't find anything anywhere with sleeves. They don't exist! I am getting married in October I don't want freezing cold blue bridesmaids! Plus the two bigger girls are conscious of their arms.

Also I don't know if I can trust janky sites like jjs house or bliss extra. I have already checked johnlewis, coast, phase eight, Dorothy Perkins, monsoon etc.

Please help me! Where did you get your bridesmaid dresses from?

AIBU in thinking that there should be somewhere I can get these dresses from or am I being picky and unreasonable?

I bought my bridesmaids dresses from the Dainty Yard on Etsy. They are mutilway dresses that can be made to have short sleeves and everyone can choose how they would like theirs. My size 20 bridesmaid was really happy with hers and the style flattered the slim bridesmaids too.

The dresses ship from Singapore and take a while but the price is great. They will send samples of the colour too.

I had sage green bridesmaids dresses 27 years ago! Had them made.

(Adds nothing to discussion at all)

Ladyoftheloch · 29/01/2019 11:49

What about little jackets, or a wrap?

Subtlecheese · 29/01/2019 11:51

I got ours from light in the box but I did have to do alterations (I am just not competent enough to make dresses for anyone but myself).
Adding a shrug or light jacket to a dress might work out more cost effective than looking for something that might then need making from scratch.

What about those lace sleeved cardigan you can put under a dress - dyed to match your dress? You'd need special synthetic dye - but very very doable. Worth an experiment?

Obviously the cut/style dress would need to be right - but it would work well under something like this:

What about this? I’m sure if you went into a coast branch they might be able to help source the matching skirts....

I was bridesmaid in March last year, the sun was shining but it was freezing when the sun went behind a cloud. Bride bought us tartan wraps to match the grooms family tartan kilt, they were lovely and warm! Threw them off for photos and back on when we weren’t in the line up.

I’m overweight and worried about my arms being exposed but no one was looking at me! All eyes on the bride!

Suresurelah · 29/01/2019 12:01

What about changing the colour and have sage green accents (accessories) as it may be easier to find dresses that suits everyone — ducks for cover —

Fortheloveofscience · 29/01/2019 12:02

I bought from JJs house for my bridesmaids last year and they were nice dresses. Also had an Oct wedding and it was about 20 degrees, so there are advantages to getting matching shrugs or something to go on top that can be discarded if needed. I boiled in my wedding dress!

Would you consider blue

Santaclarita · 29/01/2019 12:02

I would add a shrug to sleeveless dresses. That way once inside (I'm assuming you will have dinner and the dance inside) if they get too warm they can remove the shrug.

Suresurelah · 29/01/2019 12:03

But I second ASOS as well.

What about buying some second hand gowns and getting them altered?

Have you looked at the cost of getting a dressmaker to make them...look at fashion students (uni) etc

mintyneb · 29/01/2019 12:03

Can't help on dresses but just to say depending on where you are, October is not as cold as you'd think. We often get beautiful weather at that time of year. When I got married mid Oct years ago it was clear blue sky and 24'C!

Keep checking occasionwear at TKMaxx as moves fast. 28 people have bought this in last 3 days.

Find the material you like, take a picture of the dress you like and find a dressmaker to make it?

GB54 · 29/01/2019 12:11

Not much of a sleeve but
www.chichiclothing.com/products/Chi-Chi-Emy-Dress.html

They have some lovely darker green dresses with sleeves.

HairsprayBabe · 29/01/2019 12:15

I know October can be changeable but two of them really want sleeves, and I want them to feel comfortable.

S8 petite lady is willing to pay for extra alts if we need to get a 10 and bring it down for her.

I could ask them if they are willing to pay £20 each to top the budget up to £100 but I don't want to be cheeky.

Don't want to change the colour from sage.

I also LOVED the Maya range of dresses, zelando asos and next sell them but I can't find any other stockists or even their own website.

I got about halfway through this thread thinking "this sounds like Hairspray's bridesmaid dress dilemma" before I actually looked at the name Grin

I still love that DP dress, it's so heartbreaking they've sold out. Have you been in touch with them?

jessstan2 · 29/01/2019 12:21

I like the pictures of the Debenham's one, very elegant.

If October 2019 is anything like Oct last year, the weather will be boiling hot!

Jaxhog · 29/01/2019 12:23

Boleros or shrugs are the way to go. I have several from Angel Circle which would do the job nicely. Ebay have them at sale prices, or try and catch the sale. They come in lots of muted colours.
