Feminists across the UK have "defaced" statues by dressing them in T-shirts containing the dictionary definition of the word woman .More details here.

Trans rights groups are calling this a hate crime. I hate to sound like such an old fogie but this it sounds like political correctness gone mad! How is this offensive? What's so offensive about the word woman I don't understand!

I'd say it's considerably wider than that of many of the posters on here

I am honestly trying to help

If someone says something that you think is a bit unfair or mean, the best way to deal with it IS NOT TO INSULT MOST OF THE FUCKING BOARD

But on the flipside I do also think that many things get blamed on the patriarchy which are also largely the result of women's choices. Like the earnings gap which I'm still undecided on. I've met a lot of women who really enjoyed motherhood and embraced maternity leave, which undoubtedly affects women's long term prospects and earnings in many cases through absence from the workplace.

For about 54,000 women who give birth every year in the UK that time off is not a choice: www.telegraph.co.uk/women/politics/maternity-discrimination-real-one-city-trying-abolish-good/

And even if you women don't have children they are still discriminated against in employment because they might have the potential to have children.

A third of bosses of small and medium businesses avoid hiring women of child bearing age:

Do you not think that women, on a mothers' forum, might have personal experience of, er, being a woman in today's world?

Yes, of course. But it works both ways. I see it mentioned so often how easy it into be a man, but until you've lived as one you can't really get a full perspective.

I agree that men are often less patronised and that some men (often a particular type) are given more respect by default. But the other side of the coin is that men are expected to 'deal with their own shit' and society is less sympathetic of men that struggle. Men are often much more likely to help a woman than another man.

News flash: gender stereotypes are harmful to both women and men.

And yet as part of a patriarchal society surely anyone is qualified to say toxic masculinity harms both men and women.

I’m sure that is true. I look forward to men doing the equivalent of the work that feminists have done on what it means to be a woman so that men can liberate themselves from the gender stereotypes that bind them. Women are no longer stuck at home, restricted to caring roles. They can do so much more now. The way is open for men to do the same.

catkind I don't think some posters read that message - no matter how often other posters take the time to type it Smile

You 'appreciate' many of the unique challengers faced by women do you? As a man.. Hmm yet imply that as women we can't possibly appreciate men's issues

Interesting..

My statement remains that yes, you have a very narrow viewpoint when it consists of 'your brothers gf' Hmm

I'd say it's considerably wider than that of many of the posters on here. Not least because I appreciate many of the unique challenges faced by both sexes rather than having a blinkered view comprising a fairly predictable range of ideas, mostly acquired from the views espoused by others

Gosh.
