Everyone here (nearly) says it will be bad.
Let's hear some positives about our coming freedom from the EU!

Wait a minute? He’s actually looking forward to making people redundant?

That’s actually disgusting.

Zebra31 · 28/01/2019 15:33

Out of interest what sector is your dads business EverlyNow

Moby that’s inspired journalism.

EverlyNow · 28/01/2019 15:38

No of course not. His business prospects (previous planned growth) are in decline with the economic turbulence caused by the (his) Leave vote and the redundancies will be a by-product of that. Stupidly, he’s excited about not being part of the EU 🙄

oreoxoreo · 28/01/2019 15:47

Just thought of one positive, maybe people like me (European 'immigrant') would become more appreciated with time, simply because there will be fewer of us?

Ha ha ha... [sad face]

SusanWalker · 28/01/2019 15:49

I'm looking forward to the Tory party imploding and hopefully the labour party getting itself a new leader.

In fact when the shit hits the fan I'm hoping quite a few brexit hardliner MPs will have a portillo moment.

And hopefully some will be brought to book for all the lies they told. Yes I might be thinking of you Boris 'I never said anything about Turkey during the referendum campaign' Johnson.

Not exactly brexit benefits but it might sweeten the blows. Although looking at the people who get voted in again and again it's possible none of that will happen.

OftenHangry · 28/01/2019 15:50

@oreoxoreo awww. You have to learn to appreciate yourself. Screw others😉 Especially people who don't want us here "cause like their like getin benifits and steel our jobs"

OftenHangry · 28/01/2019 15:51

@SusanWalker I am hoping for LibDem to rise. Tories are not an option, nor is labour atm. And it's not just about JC...

rosie39forever · 28/01/2019 15:54

My parents voted leave so we could catch our own fish!! Think I must be adopted, oh and OP YABVU we are royally fucked if we leave and royally fucked if we don't, the only comfort I am getting for being poorer and constantly stressed by the stupidity of the morons who voted for this is when their lives are changed for the worse I can do my "I told you so" dance.

FenellaMaxwell · 28/01/2019 15:54

I actually DO have a positive. I mean, not one for now - right now, we are fucked. But when this all goes to inevitable shit, it will mean that future generations will actually learn to take an interest in politics, and to make their vote count, to insure this can’t happen again.

Calvinsmam · 28/01/2019 15:57

My great Aunty voted leave and promptly sunk ALL of her savings into a holiday home in Spain.
She doesn’t have a pension or anything and is in her late 70’s.

You cannot speak to her about it.

Sindragosan · 28/01/2019 16:04

An increase in grow your own fruit and veg? More people learning how to cook and bake from scratch? Eating seasonal local produce?

Going to be fine apart from the poor people who don't have gardens and can't afford enough food Hmm

StoorieHoose · 28/01/2019 16:13

huge increase in spending for security systems of people vegetable plots Sindragosan from marauding scavengers?

longwayoff · 28/01/2019 16:22

However, there's a reasonable chance that the Leave voters will finally stfu about Remain voters pessimism and will shuffle off shamefaced for what they have caused. Ha! As if. Whatever happens will be the fault of everyone else who refused to join their cult. Oh, and Jeremy Corbyn of course.

diddl · 28/01/2019 16:23

"It was not that I didn't care, I thought it was unnecessary."

I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

Dumbie · 28/01/2019 16:23

'Increased opportunities in highly skilled jobs in the UK where people have left due to Brexit (Medical professions / scientists / engineers / teaching).'

All of the above all experiencing fairly significant skills gaps! There is a lot of opportunity there already

That said engineering and science in the UK are likely to take a hit if we can't get our ducks in a row (read Tom Enders warning from Airbus as an example), so maybe there won't be a skills gap in the future after all if there is reduced demand.

If that happens then at least the chart that shows skills supply vs demand will look good. Is that a positive?

Ps, YANBU OP. I'm desperate to cling on to some positives

BorisBogtrotter · 28/01/2019 16:33

One good piece of news is that I will be able to say: " I told you so" repeatedly to leave supporters.

They need to own their mess.

CazM2012 · 28/01/2019 16:34

Positives in this house...my DH is getting an extra couple of weeks off in early April to spend time with us as a family, he may not be able to return to work as they could make everyone redundant. Lots of making memories, no idea how we will pay our rent or buy food but hey he won’t spend all his time at work for a while...Sad

PlumCakeChica · 28/01/2019 16:50

I had a walk around one of the RHS flagship vegetable gardens yesterday. The only thing growing was leeks and kale. And that will be pretty much it during the so called ‘hunger gap’ until April/May.

MotherOfDragons90 · 28/01/2019 17:02

Met up with some friends on the weekend and we were putting the world to rights (aka talking about brexit) over a lot of wine.

No positives unfortunately...but we did come up with the ingenious solution of an EU MEMBERSHIP CARD. It’s like a credit card with the EU flag on and it means if you voted to remain you get to keep your EU benefits, free movement around Europe, give it a flash at the supermarket for cheaper food (e.g £1.99 for EU Citizens and £7.99 for Brexiteers), if your office are making people redundant due to brexit you just whip your EU card out and prove you voted remain and the Leavers will get made redundant first Blush. Leavers will have a ‘FREEDOM’ card with the English flag on when they purchase their more expensive food.

Completely impractical obviously but when you’re a bottle of wine down these things sound ideal GrinBlushWine

PortiaCastis · 28/01/2019 17:04

Yes that's a positive to the majority of people here in this County I sodding well told you so will be so satisfying but we'll all suffer the consequences of losing all those millions in EU grants, you couldn't make it up !

FamilyOfAliens · 28/01/2019 17:08

My son will finally be able to buy hopefully as prices have already dropped a lot where he lives. He has also seen his salary gone up as there is less competition for what he does and his employer has realised they will have to pay more to keep him. Win-win.

TL;DR: I’m alright, Jack.

FaFoutis · 28/01/2019 17:18

I told you so won't work. They will blame the EU, rather than themselves.

SalrycLuxx · 28/01/2019 17:24

By leaving the EU it reduces the risk of the UK needing to bail out Italy, Portugal, Spain, Ireland etc.

Nope. Our banks are very well interlinked with Irelands banks. We will bail them out regardless to make sure our own don’t fall over.

SalrycLuxx · 28/01/2019 17:25

Positive: the UK will get a massive reality check, which might just mean we can start discussing issues like fucking adults.

HesterShaw21 · 28/01/2019 17:28

Bendy bananas?

And about those immigrants stealing jobs...
