I really like her. I'm starting a positive thread about her, as I can't stand seeing her (or any celebs) torn apart for the most minuscule of things...

So what do we like about MM?

I think she's ace. I'm mixed race - the way she speaks so eloquently about growing up as a'biracial' woman speaks to me. She's so articulate. I also like how involved she is with the homeless community. My brother was homeless for a while and it was through charity and kindness that he found his feet.

Anyone else think she seems quite lovely?

Hadjab · 28/01/2019 12:10

@boraboring she’s not British, she’s a divorcee, she’s American, she’s not a wall flower, she’s not white ... I could go on, but you get it

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 28/01/2019 12:12

Not reading papers, I'm not sure what it is she's meant to have done that's sparked all this nastiness (so hoping it's not just that she's not white and not British), so I can hand on heart say that she seems All Right to Me!

I think Harry must be delighted to have found someone who will take on that life who seems to have a brain, compassion and is (let's face it) absolutely beautiful.

Not sure what there is to complain about.

bellinibobble · 28/01/2019 12:14

She's so eloquent and really holds her own. I think she's great, and I've loved Kate since forever..

Loved when she walked herself down the aisle at the wedding.

Osirus · 28/01/2019 12:15

That’s a beautiful photo of the Queen.

lubeybooby · 28/01/2019 12:16

I think she's great, her and Harry are very sweet. I don't get the weirdness toward her at all

findingmyfeet12 · 28/01/2019 12:16

She looks "smug" and people think she's devious and conniving. That's what she appears to have done.

Also she wasn't an A list Hollywood actress. How can her career pre marriage ever compete with the glittering heights that KM reached in her pre marriage career?

MinorProphet · 28/01/2019 12:22

Pretty sure the spite towards her is racism. And wanting to make sure an outspoken professional woman is kept in her place.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 28/01/2019 12:22

I think she's lovely. I think KM is also lovely.
I wouldn't want either of their lives for all the tea in China though. I can only imagine how limiting and frustrating it must be to be constantly under the microscope whilst trying to live a life, maintain a relationship and raise a family...all of which are difficult enough even for the strongest of mere mortals.

CallMeVito · 28/01/2019 12:26

It's a good distraction from Brexit and various scandals, people love to hate someone and she is an easy target, the fact that she is not British makes it even easier. It's embarrassing. I hope she doesn't have to read some of the nasty comments, she is still a young woman pregnant with her first child. She is having the best medical care of the country, but it's still a worrying time. She doesn't deserve all this hatred.

KC225 · 28/01/2019 12:42

She's not the first it's happened to:- What about all the 'Waity Kate' titles, I remember reading a piece about what a terrible example she was to young women in this day and age. That she spent years doing nothing (I think she worked for her parents friends - who happened to own Jigsaw).

Camilla mocked - accused of bringing down the royal family. Duchess of Pork anyone? I think she was called a national embarrassment at one point. Can't be too soon to rememeber and some of the dire headlines for Diana. Watch The Diana Tapes on Netflix - quite harrowing.

I think its a bit obvious and a tad lazy to reach straight for the racist/american card. Its a lot more complex than that and its something the others have all been through.

Personalky, I loved MM in suits and to be honest when I read she was dating Prince Harry, I thought he was punching above his weight. The engagement interview was a bit of a turn off for me. A super rich couple in their 30s talking about saving the world just comes across as a bit niave. I think once she has the baby, that will be the focus - the British public LOVE a royal baby.

findingmyfeet12 · 28/01/2019 12:46

The criticism of MM doesn't relate to anything substantial though.

She had a good career and job before marriage which was unlike KM.

Comments about Sarah Ferguson's weight were appalling granted. However, she's since not exactly covered herself in glory.

The criticism of MMis just that she's perceived as devious and conniving and smug!

CallMeVito · 28/01/2019 12:53

the criticisms against Kate were more against her behaviour and work ethic. People didn't like that she come from an upper-privileged background and never had to lift a finger until she got married.

The ones against Meghan are a lot more personal, a lot about her physical appearance, people are becoming a lot more hateful and unpleasant. People don't like that she had a job, independence and a personality.

Basically no one can win! I bet the haters would be the first one to curtsey and try to take a selfie to show the world they have been in the same room than a royalty.

TrollQueen · 28/01/2019 12:54

I like how genuinely happy she looks with her pregnancy. I wish I had looked so glowing.

It annoys me that some people feel it's okay to police how often she touches her stomach while pregnant. 🤨

Becles · 28/01/2019 13:05

@findingmyfeet12

CallMeVito · 28/01/2019 13:05

The pregnancy is going the same way than Kate's: they have both been accused to wear a fake bump and use a surrogate Grin

She looks good pregnant too, Meghan really is a very pretty woman.

KC225 · 28/01/2019 13:27

findingmyfeet12 It wasn't just about Duchess of York's weight although that was very unfairly reported. She had lived with an older man - I remember her being called damaged goods. I also remember her being called vulgar and common for winking at guests as she walked up the aisle. She was also accused of cashing in on the royal connections when she wrote/co-wrote her Budgie the Helicopter books. All this before she was and newly married. I would call that pretty personal.

BarbarianMum · 28/01/2019 13:31

I'm just amazed so many people know enough about her to form a definite opinion about her character. She seems nice enough from what little I can see.

Charles11 · 28/01/2019 13:35

Weren’t they both accused of being calculating and devious women ensnaring those princes?
I remember reading that KM mother had this cunning plan since KM was born and intentionally sent her to the same university so she could trap Her Prince.
MM is the same apparently, and has ideas far above her station and has always been over ambitious, casting aside those he got in her way and only befriending those who could help her ambitions.

Klopptimist · 28/01/2019 13:55

MM is a beautiful, strong, successful and independent woman who has clearly never relied on a man for anything. The gen pop doesn't like this and I can almost hear those god-awful women in "Marry me, Harry" t-shirts screeching that he should have married someone homely and BRITISH (and not black...). I think she's a breath of fresh air.

roisinagusniamh · 28/01/2019 13:57

What a stressful pregnancy this woman must be having and it will be have an effect on her baby. People should respect that first and foremost regardless of who she is or who she is married to.

I’m not too sure, but I hope one day they find her - it’ll be 12 years in May.

I quite like the MM threads, it's a good opportunity to update my 'Which Mumsnetters are racist ' spreadsheet

I think Chris Eubank is a bit of a twat. Am I racist, or is he just a bit of a twat?

BarbarianMum · 28/01/2019 14:36

Well it's not so much your views on Chris Eubank that make you think you might be a racist Morning, more your instant dismissal of the possibility that the intense and sustained bitching about MM both here and in the press could possibly have any racial basis.

The reality is that women of colour
in the public eye regularly and consistently attract far more vitriol than white women. As a white woman I find that uncomfortable, but that doesn't make it untrue.

findingmyfeet12 · 28/01/2019 14:43

Chris Eubank has done and said quite a lot to make people think he's a bit of a twat.

What are MM's faults?

I'm sure she has some but non of us know her and as far as I can see she hasn't yet done enough to be criticised so heavily. I stand corrected, she does cradle her bump quite a lot.
