AIBU?

DH and his Brexit cupboard

Dh has converted two of our kitchen units into his Brexit cupboard! He has filled them up with all sorts of tinned delacacies including different beans, chilli and dogs (hot!)
He's also stockpiled toilet rolls, medicines, cleaning products etc. It's all stashed away in his new Brexit cupboard, that we have been warned not to touch! I darent tell him that the dc have already been in there hunting for chocolate. They were disappointed to find numerous bags of rice and pasta but alas no chocolate. Seems he has got his priorities mixed up! 😁
AIBU to think this is unnecessary and over the top? I need help to convince him as he talking about stockpiling and filling up the freezer and I'm dreading what concoctions I will find in there! All joking aside, it is just Dh panicking isn't it? We don't really need to be stockpiling food in one of the richest countries of the world, do we?

And @Maryjoyce did you exercise your democratic right to say it was a bad idea? Which is what I am doing by complaining about No Deal. Why is that a problem for you?

One thing I remember from then is there where huge lies that came to light after to get us to join though specifically what the lies were I don’t remember as so long ago and my mind is not that good.

Not helping your case much, there. If you have one.
I'm also old.

The lies were Huge, bigly huge, but I can't remember them.

I said I didn’t want to join but been unable to vote and of course no internets and the things we have today I did what I could.
I stood in student demos and signed protest petitions to no avail sadly

I don’t need a case since it was voted for to leave

So given the eventual success of the UKIP position, what is your advice to people who object to no deal?
Mine is sensible budget friendly proportionate prepping for interruptions to food supply and the problems to go with that.
And yours is?

I have no problem you want to object to no deal I’m very happy with no deal as it cuts any ties to giving the EU any more money it cuts all ties to anything with them totally and leaves a blank sheet to start a new.

Maryjoyce · 28/01/2019 11:55

No idea about UKIP I’ve never voted for them

Meanwhile, how will people feed their families if the shops run short. Even for a couple of days? Again, your advice?

"I don’t need a case since it was voted for to leave"

Then why contribute to a debate?

You do need a case.

The leave vote was essentially people voting for their own specific outcomes.

None of you are going to be happy.

Its funny.

Mary let me hazard a guess that you are retired and comfortably off? Hmm

I don’t foresee the massive issues the scare mongers are putting out there for the main.
I see it won’t be totally smooth sailing but I don’t forsee the massive scare munger problems.
As to stock piling it only creates the problem that you are scared of. Which proves itself yearly with the snow panic buyers. Or Christmas buyers that go nuts and thing they need a months supply when Tesco shuts one single day

No not retired at all

So people shouldn't worry about interruptions to food supply. And the army shouldn't. You don't need to worry about feeding your family or your troops. It's just scaremongering?
Really? Tell the MoD that. They'd live your advice.

"don’t foresee the massive issues the scare mongers are putting out there for the main."

So unlike all the industry and trade experts then?

Just running a bit short is not going to starve anyone. We are a society that has got used to having everything on demand 24/7 and expect every kind of fruit veg etc no matter what the season. We won’t die from eating some more basic things if need be till it gets sorted though I personally don’t foresee the disasters that scare mongers are shouting.

Once again confusing stockpiling (or forward purchasing to steal the army’s term) with panic buying.

You have seriously missed the point that the MOD stock pile always. There are underground meat chambers not so far from me every 10 years they swap the meat and give it away if you like mega salted meat.
It’s nithing new to the MOD

The truth is ittsveasy to scare people into believing anything if you have a vested interest in doing so

My GOD some people are so fucking stupid. So stupid. So goddamned stupid. I almost no longer believe in democracy, I no longer think everyone should have a say as they clearly can't think things through.

if the men and woman who gave their lives for Great Britain could read this they would be so sad . Come on everyone lets put the Great back into Britain and make them proud of us

I was disappointed that the thread had seemingly started to lose its Completely Barking aura, and then this absolute gem popped up earlier today.

Nope. you have seriously missed the point that under Operation Yellowhammer which is the UKs prep specifically for hard Brexit, the army is stockpiling ammo, food and more. This is not their standard provisioning. This is extra.

Updated definitions in the new Brexitannian English Dictionary:

PANIC : taking gradual action, in January, for an event in March.

SMUG: having taken gradual action in January.

SHORTAGES: something that will definitely happen in January, when supply chains are not disrupted, due to PANIC (see above), but somehow will definitely not happen in March, when supply chains are disrupted.

CAUSATION: people who buy smoke alarms in January cause fires in March.

BLITZSPIRIT: something apparently very good and quintessentially British, a highly desirable state of the nation, which will come about in March (but not in January) due to the SHORTAGES (see above) which are not going to happen in March (but are in January).

Do you have young children at home @Maryjoyce ? Because I do. The more chilled out and normal I can keep it, including palatable food choices, the better. Not sure giving my daughter last night's cold spaghetti for breakfast will help her very much.
