AIBU?

DH and his Brexit cupboard

Dh has converted two of our kitchen units into his Brexit cupboard! He has filled them up with all sorts of tinned delacacies including different beans, chilli and dogs (hot!)
He's also stockpiled toilet rolls, medicines, cleaning products etc. It's all stashed away in his new Brexit cupboard, that we have been warned not to touch! I darent tell him that the dc have already been in there hunting for chocolate. They were disappointed to find numerous bags of rice and pasta but alas no chocolate. Seems he has got his priorities mixed up! 😁
AIBU to think this is unnecessary and over the top? I need help to convince him as he talking about stockpiling and filling up the freezer and I'm dreading what concoctions I will find in there! All joking aside, it is just Dh panicking isn't it? We don't really need to be stockpiling food in one of the richest countries of the world, do we?

Plus if you really convinced and think it is going to be a disaster make sure you get your international driving licence cross the channel and go shopping it’s not hard.

Yes, if No Deal results in miles and miles of lorry traffic jams at all major crossing points, which is the very thing posters have tried to point out could cause the problems with supplies, YOU TOO could add to the congestion by trying to cross the channel to get supplies 🙄

I'm not convinced it's going to happen, I just think it's a significant risk.
Do you have life insurance Mary?

Personally I think they’ll be some good and bad but in time will come around.
You can’t change something so big overnight without problems but I do think ultimately we will be fine and in a better situation. Plus I feel us leaving will be begining the EECs downward spiral there’s plenty that are not happy and are maybe watching the mess currently to see how it pans out.

What on earth are you doing feeding each other's fears like this? We would never have got through two world wars with this attitude, sure it may be tough for a short time change usually is, the men and woman who gave their lives for the country would be so sad, we can be so scared of immediate discomfort we can't see the light over the horizon, come on let's grow a back bone as the shortage may not come because of brexit but because of people being greedy and selfish under the heading stockpiling, no my head is not in the sand , I see the world trade being our oyster, and my country being Great again.*

@Libloo are you being entirely serious or are you just trying to score maximim Brexit Bingo points? Hilarious.

bubble I don't know whether they're being serious or not, because honestly it's become impossible to parody. BUT either way, I think their posts are really helping the Prepping cause. So I hope they keep returning.

seems a bit over the top to me, most shortages are caused by people crazily stockpilling stuff like this. Are you honestly telling me the UK will starve if we have a no deal? Do we not have farmers & fishermen in this country?

Oh read the thread Jen's it's been explained only around a million times Hmm

Nah - they don’t actually read the threads and assimilate the sound and reasoned arguments in favour of calmly preparing before a massive political event likely to cause economic disruption. That would be sensible.

@RedToothBrush good point about travellers potentially being stranded outside of the UK.

The idea of thousands of Leavers stuck in refugee-type camps, unable to get home from Benidorm, is wildly unlikely but does make me chuckle just a little

Seriously, @Jens303 , do you even bother reading the thread before you trot out tired old bollocks like that.

Don’t give a shit if it is EEC or EU I’ll be very happy not been part of it

@Maryjoyce , I kind of think a lot of it was about the difference between EEC and E.U. maybe you should try reading stuff.

I can't believe all the references to the bloody war either, clucky blitz spirit shit, I think they're really looking forward to it. Love how we've gone from prosper to survive in only a few short months. Who wants to just survive OUT OF CHOICE!!! ShockHmmConfusedAngry

Though wonder why they bothered to write EEC/EU passports on all our newly refurbished boxes on the channel crossings and airports

Report
bellinisurge · 28/01/2019 11:34

Seriously @Maryjoyce - what are you talking about. There is no EEC. When it became the E.U., that's when this all really kicked off. I'm old. I remember life before during and after EEC.

Whenever anyone says anything about the world being our oyster, I'm reminded of this quote from PG Wodehouse:
I was conscious of a passing pang for the oyster world, feelingand I think correctlythat life for these unfortunate bivalves must be one damn thing after another.”
A bit like Brexit, really.

If I ever want to explain the Doppler effect to my DC, I'll tell them it's the eeeeooowwww sound that pro-Brexit empty-slogan-spritzers make as they fling their nuggets of pseudo-wisdom into discussions Grin

Didn't you accept the democratic will of the people to stay in the EEC then?

My mistake I just looked at my phone and it says EU/EEA oops lol

Report

I thought it was a rubbish Idea at the time but I was too young to vote but yes of course had to accept the result for all these years.
We destroyed trade with the commonwealth and put all those countries in big big problems at the time which no way did I agree with.
