AIBU to think Mrs Hinch needs to get a life?

I recently started following Mrs Hinch on Instagram and she irritates me so much. I understand that she likes a clean home, who doesn't, but she really, really needs to get a life.
Cleaning is not, and should not ever be a hobby. Clearly she has a lack of personality if cleaning is a hobby.

I think what really pissed me off is how incredibly bad for the environment all those chemicals and plastic bottles are. It annoys me that so many people seem to enjoy her stuff and do as she does when she is pouring loads of chemicals sold in plastic bottles into the drain every year.

I bet there is already a thread on this very subject on her left somewhere but I'll admit I didn't look before I wrote this. I just needed to vent my annoyance.

I'm not quite sure how it's bullying to say that she needs to get a life and that her hobby is so boring that she can't have a personality. That's my opinion and in no way is it bullying, aggressive or offensive.

Hmm, I think it probably would be quite offensive to the person you are insulting 🤔

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 24/01/2019 19:57

Excessive cleaning is not only bad for the planet and for fish and wildlife, but also for small children, whose immune systems don't fully develop and get allergies as a result.
I suspect that she has serious issues too and I am not a fan.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 24/01/2019 19:59

With 1.6m followers she seems pretty popular. I’ve watched only a few of her videos and I think she’s quite sweet really.

Laiste · 24/01/2019 19:59

I only know the name Mrs Hinch from the mumnet threads and was picturing some little elderly lady. Tired and dried up form years of slaving over the house.

Well - was i surprised to see a clip of her on morning TV! ShockGrin

It's a bit like Mrs Beaton. The cook book woman. For years i've pictured her as an elderly plump old cook and it turns out she wrote the book at 24 or something and DIED at 28! :(

CoffeeTableBook · 24/01/2019 20:00

@Xmasfairy86 She doesn’t do anywhere near the cleaning that she makes out!

She takes photos from a few different angles one day then uses those photos spaced out over the following months.

LadyHardy · 24/01/2019 20:00

Evening Hinchers! What on earth are you doing on MN? Doesn't your microwave need cleaning? Your socks need ironing? Isn't there a duck pond somewhere you could pour oven cleaner into? Some seaturtles who haven't had their daily fill of plastic and pollutants that you need to address? Sheesh. I'm absolutely amazed that more people aren't concerned with the amount of waste and polluting she promotes.

Thinking someone is boring really doesn't make me a bad person. It's amazing to me that you lot think it does. Shouldn't have insulted the domestic Messiah should I? Oh well. Happy cleaning guys.

Is that supposed to be funny? Confused

Romanov · 24/01/2019 20:03

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplands
I haven't a clue who this woman is but there are a shit tonne of threads popping up about her

me too...!

AwdBovril · 24/01/2019 20:03

You think she's boring, yet you follow her on Instagram & started a thread about her?

Romanov · 24/01/2019 20:06

just googled, not much wiser, are all her pics in black and white?

scrolling through her instagram, just seems to be repeating pictures? point of???

and furbabies eurgh

Drogosnextwife · 24/01/2019 20:06

If young as came on and said you didn't agree with all those chemicals and you don't really see the point fair enough, your post was just nasty. I don't follow her I dont need tips on cleaning and front have Instagram other sm, but to have such hatred for someone that isn't actually affecting you in anyway is weird OP. Live and let live Wink

Drogosnextwife · 24/01/2019 20:06

You had, not young as

Littlechocola · 24/01/2019 20:06

You are a bundle of joy op.

Are you drunk?

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 24/01/2019 20:10

OP, does she need to get a life, in your opinion, because being obsessed with cleaning is a waste of time, or does she need to get a life because you think she's damaging the environment?

Lantern92 · 24/01/2019 20:11

I have followed her from before her massive boost in popularity. She went viral - of course if all these companies are going to offer her money for things she says she's using as it is she is going to accept ! Are you telling me you wouldn't? She is harmless ! You're just being bitchy OP- if you don't like her don't follow her.

staydazzling · 24/01/2019 20:12

Is Mumsnet HQ going to actually do anything about this targetting of her and bullying? 3 nasty threads ive seen in a day, between this and all the trans threads Sad I miss what mumsnet was and sad its starting to become this , it used to be so varied and rich, its become so, so toxic Sad

Littlechocola · 24/01/2019 20:18

Agree @staydazzling.

Shaboohshoobah1 · 24/01/2019 20:18

I just looked at her insta page - it’s very grey! Who lives like that? Really boring and looks cheap. But I can’t understand the vitriol for someone you don’t know OP - save that rage for big multinationals who pollute on a giant scale, not some woman in a new build who likes Cilit Bang

DonCorleoneTheThird · 24/01/2019 20:25

and if you look at pictures of her very recent honeymoon, she seems to be having a very nice life Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/01/2019 20:29

I had to google her as had no idea who she was. I mean, she seems very nice but there is nothing extraordinary about the tips she promotes. She just seems to use a lot of products unnecessarily. People used to get these tips like this from women’s magazines, or, shock horror, from their mothers. I suppose the one clever thing she has done is captured the market. Good luck to her.

WWYDhelpplease · 24/01/2019 20:31

Well said staydazzling.

Do you know I’ve read threads on here where posters have gone nuclear at HQ when the site has gone down and vulnerable members haven’t been able to log on and seek support, particularly overnight. Mumsnet can be a huge support to people who are in crisis or a bad place. We come together to help, listen and offer what advice we can.

You may not support Mrs Hinch, however I’ve read stories from many of her followers who have found the courage to seek help with their mental health, leave abusive partners, seek advice when they hoard or have a dirty house. No one judges, laughs or makes snide remarks.

I Hinch. I use a few of the same products. Her blog and Facebook pages help me keep up with housework and is keeping me active when I have had some down periods recently.

Why oh why can’t we be supportive?

I think it’s utterly disgusting to treat someone like this. She isn’t doing any harm, is earning a living, enjoys what she is doing and over a million people like it.

A nasty, nasty post. Bullying and mumsnet in the gutter.

Itsagamerchanger · 24/01/2019 20:31

I’m convinced the recent rash of Hinch threads are all by the same person who changes their name.

Ladyoftheloch · 24/01/2019 20:32

I expect OP saw the many Hinch threads and wanted to ride on the coattails of how popular they are, so started her own. Only it was too overly bitchy even by MN standards so she didn’t get the welcome reception she wanted. That’s why she’s being so defensive and flouncing off.

Itsagamerchanger · 24/01/2019 20:33

Oh and I’m absolutely not a Hinch supporter. But I think these threads are pretty shitty.
