AIBU to think that Danny Dyer "t*nguing a princess" is not appropriate for its intended audience

Danny Dyer's Right Royal Family two part series airs tonight, tracing his ancestry back to royalty (first uncovered in Who Do You Think You Are).

This programme has been heavily promoted in the press and on Radio 1 and he has generally been banded about as a national treasure since his daughter won Love Island in the summer. We took our DCs to see him and his daughter in Nativity the Musical at Christmas and my 11 year old DD loves the two of them now.

When I heard the advert for this programme on Radio 1 this morning I texted my DD the trailer for it, thinking it was something she'd enjoy watching on iPlayer (as suggested in the advert). When I actually watched the trailer though, one of the first things he says as his car drives past Buckingham Palace is "Why aren't I plotted up there...tonguing a princess?"

AIBU to think this is really misjudged, not just on his and the programme makers part but on Radio 1 for promoting the programme to such young listeners?

It's on after the watershed though, at 9pm isn't it?

TonTonMacoute · 23/01/2019 13:47

Amazed anyone is interested in watching this crap. I really don't see how the BBC could dumb down any lower. And if that makes me a raging snob, so be it.

iklboo · 23/01/2019 13:50

'Tonguing' means snogging.

SpoonBlender · 23/01/2019 13:57

iklboo No, no it doesn't. It's far more fun.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 23/01/2019 13:59

Tounging someone just means a snog doesn't it? It did back when I was in school at least, which was probably around the same time Danny Dyer was.

Its a delightful phrase I'll admit, but its not exactly post watershed stuff

Having seen trailers for this thing I can't imagine anyone watching it, whoever he is, looks dire!

Reccy2018 · 23/01/2019 14:03

Yes, it means snogging

User10fuckingmillion · 23/01/2019 14:04

He means snogging.

iklboo · 23/01/2019 14:06

It does round here 😉

elQuintoConyo · 23/01/2019 14:11

Why is there an asterisk in 'tonguing' in the title? Would you have also written k*ssing? Hmm

The man is an arse. I wouldn't watch him if he was saving puppies.

goldengummybear · 23/01/2019 14:13

Tonguing = kissing with tongues

PookieDo · 23/01/2019 14:14

He is so popular with the younger generation. My teens think he’s funny. I showed my DD16 Danny Dyers Deadliest Men or whatever it was called and she was horrified in cringe and it was hilarious.

BBC have been after him for years and years and he’s always turned it down (EE) until I think he started running out of options in his career.

I live in this kind of area of the U.K. where he is popular, where a lot of people support the same football team as him, a lot of TOWIE people are around and I can understand why people find him endearing/funny, but I wonder if people from other parts of the country are like WTF? Because it’s not something they are used to? I don’t know. For me it is not that unusual to know a complete cocky Essex/cockney geezer and the language he uses 😂

DD16 will probably want to watch his programme

delboysskinandblister · 23/01/2019 14:15

@Justpoppingout

I don't think he meant oral sex. Just kissing.

PookieDo · 23/01/2019 14:15

I should have added he’s toned down a lot I agree and I am not a personal fan.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 23/01/2019 14:15

I cannot stand him ,

Amuses me though ,He thinks he is so special . Go back far enough and most of us would be descended from Royalty but as he is on our screens (God knows WHY) its a big deal . It really isn't,

lily2403 · 23/01/2019 14:18

sure doesn't mean snogging in my neck of the woods hahahahah

MoreCheeseDear · 23/01/2019 14:20

He's an odious oaf.

KC225 · 23/01/2019 14:20

I think he used to he quite funny but I feel he has now become a but of a caricature. He definitely hams it up now.

JustPoppingOut · 23/01/2019 14:20

Oh maybe he did just mean snogging!! 😂

Where I come from it's definitely much ruder!

Danny Dyer is a complete bellend, but that Zoo magazine thing was blatantly not him writing the column - he was taking money from them to put his face to the column and neither him nor his people bothered to actually check the content.

To me 'tonguing' (you don't need an asterisk, it's mumsnet, people say cunt all the time) is snogging.

MawkishTwaddle · 23/01/2019 14:21

This is off the back of his Who Do You Think You Are? episode, isn't it?

He was faintly amusing on there when he realised he was descended from Royalty aren't we all dear

Said he was going to get himself a ruff and the nation swooned well, the easily amused elements did

Pk37 · 23/01/2019 14:22

I’d have to be forced to watch this at gun point and from what you’ve said he means “kissing with tongues “ but he’s gross anyway so who knows ..

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2019 14:26

I would never think tonguing meant kissing.

I'm not sure about Danny Dyer; my normally very sound DS(25) thinks he's great.

Mind you he also thinks Corbyn's great.

gentlyscented · 23/01/2019 14:29

Tonguing means kissing 🙄 I love him always have, he's a proper geezer 😝
