Holiday booking

I went to a well know high street travel agents Saturday to book a holiday. I looked through some brochures and selected a hotel. The sales girl said she’d look for the best possible deal. She spent some time on her computer and phone and came back with a price. I paid the deposit and left.
When I got home I was googling the hotel and saw an online travel company also does the same hotel and the cost was nearly £1500 cheaper.
The travel agent I booked it through said they can book it cheaper for me but I’d lose the £400 deposit. Why didn’t they just book the cheaper one to start with if they were genuinely looking for the best deal.
I asked if I could transfer the deposit to the new booking and they said no.
So I said ok I will go ahead with the new quote and another deposit.
The lady then said oh the price has just gone up by another £500.
I said I’ve just paid the deposit how can you do that, she said it’s live prices and they change all the time.
I thought booking a holiday was supposed to be a pleasurable experience 😤
I’m so annoyed with them for what they’ve done and annoyed with myself for not checking the prices first.

Get on their Twitter and Facebook page - spam them with these photos.

I'm sorry you're having a crap holiday

buttermilkwaffles · 23/06/2019 16:22

Fairmont Mayakoba?

I would not trust TripAdvisor reviews anyway, a journalist got his garden shed serving Iceland supermarket ready meals rated as the top restaurant in London on there which shows how easy it is to manipulate...

I don’t trust Trip Advisor implicitly but it can give you an indication of the reality.

theworldistoosmall · 23/06/2019 16:26

I would be hitting sm and news.
How can Thomas cook get away with taking your money, the hotels refund to you and keep both?
That is shocking. Not a chance would I be putting this down to experience.

fraxion · 23/06/2019 16:42

OP that is truly awful! You are definitely right to complain.

I don’t trust Trip Advisor implicitly but it can give you an indication of the reality.

Definitely, especially traveller pics vs management pics. We always research hotels thoroughly before we book them.

vegas888 · 23/06/2019 16:43

I agree the seaweed isn’t the fault of Thomas cook
The fact that the hotel have offered the refund and Thomas cook won’t pass it on is what is annoying me.

That looks horrendous. Where are you?!

DesparateDino · 23/06/2019 16:52

Looks crap OP. Get on Twitter with them photos. I will retweet.

Agree much can't be done about the seaweed.

Sorry about your holiday Flowers. I would be gutted.

fraxion · 23/06/2019 16:55

Apparently Mexico is having a massive problem with sargassum this year, more than usual. Some areas are worse than others it seems.

It's no wonder Thomas Cook is teetering on the edge when they treat customers like this.

didireallysaythat · 23/06/2019 16:56

I think the seaweed thing has been a problem for a couple of years

Kyogre · 23/06/2019 17:35

.

vegas888 · 23/06/2019 18:03

I agree the seaweed is nor fault of tc but refusing to refund nearly £2000 that the hotel have offered to refund me most certainly is.
They are now refusing to speak to me since I threatened to take them to court over this

Oh god OP that is truly terrible

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 23/06/2019 18:34

Oh Op, that's terrible. I don't understand why TC won't refund you if the hotel has offered to? I'd be all over social media and trip advisor as that's shocking. Sorry your holiday has need ruined. Hope you can salvage it.

SusieOwl4 · 23/06/2019 18:48

Just have to say I had a massive problem with tui and they completely ignored the EU package holiday regulations ( look them up they are interesting ) I took them to small claims court after battling with their non existent customer service department , and won .

Celebelly · 23/06/2019 19:07

What the hell is on that plate? Looks like dog food.

Get on Twitter, post the photos and tag them and some journos.

vegas888 · 23/06/2019 19:15

It was their NY steak, thank god I was All inclusive or that would have cost me £38
That’s exactly how it was served. 😷

Name and shame!

We never use high street agents to book our holidays, we always book it all separately, flights, hotels, transfers and have never had any problems.

get away with it! You could try Which magazine too. Or Watchdog if it's still going?!

Take loads of pics and notes of everything that's going on so you have plenty of evidence.

Celebelly · 23/06/2019 19:19

Well if eclectic means 'looks like something a dog shat out' then they're doing it right.

vegas888 · 23/06/2019 19:46

Well at least your comments have made me laugh 😊
