Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

I wouldn't eat a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast every day.

I eat museli or granola for breakfast- with a handful of berries on top.

None of these are particularly out there nor particularly unhealthy but cornflakes are no less healthy than muesli or granola.

Lifeisnotsimple · 22/01/2019 15:55

Mostly im all or fuck all
Break can be porridge or toast
Lunch not sure what that is.
Tea is whatever is in freezer like chips but then i will cook massive pots of chicken stew etc loaded with veg, we will be veg bound for a few days then go back to crap. We only eat takeaway maybe once every 6 months only cos i cant afford it. Im sure if i just ate the above id be a good weight but i scoff multiple bags of crisps and biscuits, bread whilst guzzling copious amounts of tea. My ds i try to be more healthy with him but he can easily pack away some serious amount of food. Hes very active and in a swimming club so hes like a rake. Stayed with my brother once, he told me he dont buy bread anymore thought he,d lost the plot.

that race to the bottom in term of unhealthy eating is quite sad.

It's a predictable joke to mock people who eat healthy food because they have been raised that way, and who push the same attitude towards their kids, and who find it normal to have proper meals sitting at a table with most of the families members (some of us do have a job and can't be around at diner time.

When you see the rates of obesity, or the opposite and children who are missing out on essential nutrients because they have very restricted fashionable diets, it's pathetic to look down at others who do care. Eat the rubbish you want at the end of the day, but feeling superior because you do is .. well, sad.

IfNot - your son sounds ace Grin

and those are just the usuals, you can indeed chef anything on toast

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 15:56

To clarify I don't eat my OP every single day. I'm just saying that is a standard day for me.

Sometimes I change it up and have crunchy but instead at breakfast Grin

Me, and worse. Try some biscuits from the coffee morning cupboard or crisps left over from a concert for breakfast, meal deal or hot chicken counter for lunch and whatever is reduced to clear for tea, or a ready meal or I demand dh meets me at the little restaurant around the corner/goes to the cinema (cinema and meal deal) ... so fed up with cooking of late.

DonCorleone definitely on a wind up. Give over!

Plabom · 22/01/2019 15:57

I make a huge effort to eat well and cook everything from scratch and I'm 90% gluten and dairy free (no intolerances, just choice) so my diet is healthy.

I wouldn't ever have a takeaway, a meal deal or cornflakes...to me it's not 'proper' food and it's yuck to me. I spent my 20s being obese and eating all the wrong things and I don't miss any of it. I love being fit and healthy in my 30s, with energy galore & great skin to boot!

It sounds snooty I agree - but I genuinely enjoy porridge with almond milk, chia seeds, cacao powder over jam&toast, or quinoa with raw veg and fish & roasted veg rather than pizza/burgers/ready meals. Fruit is a treat as it's quite sugary.

I found that as I changed my diet, my tastes changed completely. I dislike fatty/salty/sugary foods now.

But I realise I'm probably not your average eater and I have the luxury of lots of free time/energy to focus on food.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 15:58

Don, I also eat at the table with my family. Just because I'm not strict with my diet doesn't mean I don't eat with my family at night... Hmm

You're looking down on people too, that's no better. It's equally insufferable and yes thanks to your diet and lifestyle, you might live a long, healthy life, if you don't choke on your own smugness first.

Pinkbells · 22/01/2019 15:58

I would say I eat normally but I do try to make it healthy. Yesterday I had a poached egg with spinach and wholemeal toast (raw spinach though - boiled spinach sounds rank!), scrambled eggs for lunch and moussaka & salad for dinner. A Cheesestring and a packed of pickled onion flavoured Monster Munch for snacks though! I couldn't live on a bowl of plain couscous without anything with it!!

FluffyMcCloud · 22/01/2019 16:00

If I ate “normally” I’d be dangerously overweight.

PlumpSyrianHamster · 22/01/2019 16:00

All MN food threads are fucking bonkers. I mean, sandwiches are junk food. It's like orthorexia.com when it comes to MN food threads.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 16:00

Plabom no, your post is one of the least snooty on here by far!

and if you enjoy eating that then that's a win win!

I'm 90% gluten and dairy free (no intolerances, just choice) so my diet is healthy.

You can eat gluten free and dairy free and still eat really unhealthily. Gluten and dairy are not inherently unhealthy.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 16:04

I'm not looking down on anyone! I'm highlighting the judgment we see allllll time time over who eats healthier than the other by saying hi there to all those who don't live like that, I'm over here and you don't need to feel guilty because you had some crisps at lunch. Oh and now, you're not a shit parent because you gave your kid a sandwich.

I eat a normal keto diet. 70% of my daily calories from fat. That's normal for me.

Magicpaintbrush · 22/01/2019 16:06

OP - I often get through the day having had an encounter with nearly an entire family sized bar of milk chocolate, and often have peanut butter on crumpets for breakfast. Somewhere during the week a few vodka and cokes will somehow find their way into my hand. And when I'm in a rush and I can't be arsed to chop raw carrot sticks and lettuce my go-to lunch is a fried egg wrap (usually followed by something like cake or chocolate). This is why I am not a size 10. I am also an avid fan of mashed potato, dumplings and pasta.

ButterscotchWhip · 22/01/2019 16:07

I eat porridge or similar joyless cereal and two coffees at breakfast, but I hate sweet things in the morning. I'll have quiche and salad for lunch, or a sandwich, or a soup and yoghurt. I'm at home with my baby, but if I was working I'd just ram-raid Pret and eat a few random items from there.
A biscuit and a tea come 4pm. Dinner could be anything from Chinese takeaway to a stir fry to a fish pie and veg, to salmon and more salad. But I always have a couple of glasses of wine - literally every night - so I can't feel too virtuous. Grin

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/01/2019 16:08

I try and eat "healthy normal" but some days are better than others. Yesterday was poached eggs on wholemeal for breakfast (with butter), oatcakes, cheese and relish for lunch with some wotsits and a bit of chocolate. Fruit in the afternoon. Dinner was chicken, loads of veg and some noodles. I have sugar free biscuits in as make me feel less guilty. Drink at least 2L of water a day (including fruit teas). I do at least an hour of exercise a day.

Today I've had some Pom Bears and a bit of cheese Hmm

Jheez this thread took a turn for the worse 😬😂😱

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 22/01/2019 16:11

Today I had birthday cake for breakfast. Birthday cake for lunch and whatever is in the fridge for tea. But then someone bought me a fuck off huge birthday cake and I'm not wasting it. I have PCOS and am middle aged so the calorie consumption versus the fat stored or lost is not in the most advantageous ratio. So I have to eat way less than most people to lose weight or stay the same. So I just eat small bits of cake instead of huge. And I'll have the cake and nothing else. And I'll swim for an hour. Next week there won't be any cake. It works fine for me.

slappinthebass · 22/01/2019 16:14

Today I had shreddies (with added sugar, white of course) 2 cups of tea, 1 cup of coffee, a spoonful of chocolate spread. For lunch I had half my toddlers salmon paste sandwich (salmon paste is underrated), more tea, more coffee, and for dinner I'm batch cooking lentil Dahl. Which will be the first time I've cooked something properly not bunged in the oven for about a week. Seriously lacking on the food shopping at the moment. Previous posters are correct, I'm more interested in these posts when I'm being health conscious.
