Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Me! I do! I often see all healthy eaters in Facebook and have conversations with friends about how all they've eaten is spelt for lunch and I winder which of them are lying because I do goto Tesco for a meal deal at 2.30 there's nothing left but egg and cress sandwiches so some bugger is buying it all...but no one seems to admit it any more.
I had two eggs for breakfast and some cherries on my way to work, a digestive at about 11, a chicken sandwich and an apple, a chocolate brownie at about 4, about ten gallons of milky tea and about to have a Thai curry for tea. That doesnt even seem a lot to me but it triple the food intake half of Facebook will admit to 🤷🏽‍♀️

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/01/2019 19:15

I had half a family size (6 portion) Dicksons corned beef pie for breakfast.

After that, it was all downhill, I'm afraid . . .

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/01/2019 19:18

I eat 'normally' for me - but I am a fussy eater! Egg for breakfast, soup for lunch, maybe soup again later or a bit of cheese. I dont snack and dont like sweet things so like a bit of cheese. Probably a glass of wine too later on. Each to their own..

fullerhouse · 23/01/2019 19:22

I don’t eat breakfast the thought makes me feel sick very strange I know, was slammed at work today so lunch was a giant monster 🤫 could not be arsed to cook this evening so it was a curry for dinner with a glass of very much needed wine. Oh well tomorrow is another day 🤷🏻‍♀️

ScienceIsTruth · 23/01/2019 19:22

@Peanutss, I think the reason I eat better on the weekend is just because I'm catering for others, so I put the effort in. During the working week, I will often miss lunch or breakfast as it's just me to be fed, whereas the evening meal is eaten by the rest of the family too. On days they're not home for dinner, I will often just have toast or nothing, as I can't be bothered to make something just for me.

I do usually cook from scratch Blush, although I'm happy to take shortcuts if I'm short on time, and 98% of the bread we eat is made by my own fair hands (go me!). Wink
I love baking and have my own sourdough starter that I use. It's over 5yo and I'm very proud of it! (it's like my baby! Lol) Blush
It's been good for the dc, as they'll happily eat & enjoy brown/malted bread now, whereas they don't like bought brown bread.

Madein1995 · 23/01/2019 19:23

purse why so 'boring' for want of a better word? You clearly don't enjoy your food, and viewing your food as hideous and boring isn't good. More than anything, it's not sustainable. You can lose weight while enjoying yourself. Your diet sounds really restrictive and not much fun☹️

How about this -

Before gym - smoothie of banana, strawberries, kale, yogurt and milk / water / juice

Post gym breakfast - omelette with veg and cheese, or scrambled egg on wholemeal toast, or porridge and fruit etc

lunch - why not add some mango dressing and feta to your salad? Even a dressing of lemon juice is better than nothing. Crudités and dip for a snack, yogurt and honey / nuts. Even a bag of 'healthier' crisps like pop chips, quavers etc . Or soups

Tea - why not do curries, Bolognese etc, just with added veg and less carbs?

You can even factor in 'treats' sometimes, like fun size chocolate etc. It just seems so strict, bless you. I used to eat 1200 cals a day and I managed to enjoy my food 😀

People that talk about food all the time are hungry. I eat what I fancy, when I want it.

Today
Breakfast - Granola, fruit and yogurt
Snack - Banana
Lunch - left over pasta Bolognese and fruit yoghurt
Cups of tea and coffee
Dinner - sausage roll, chips and popcorn chicken
Herbal tea

Sarah Millican's 10 meals in a day - and a milky way whenever the f**k you like!

CallMeSirShotsFired · 23/01/2019 19:27

Today I've had salted peanuts for lunch, a Ginsters slice (cold) for dinner and then some leftover biscuits.

It's a fairly shit day; but even "normally" I eat really weirdly compared to MN - usually I only have evening dinner per day and I'm full. the idea of 3 full meals makes me feel ill.

I say that as a female Mr Creosote too, I'm not a waif complaining that a half skinned blueberry is too much!

mathanxiety · 23/01/2019 19:27

I have a bagel with spinach leaves and cheese for breakfast, plus two mugs of tea. Lunch is usually an egg with toast or some Greek yogurt, and dinner is something from the freezer that I have batch cooked. I love the odd nibble of chocolate and if DD4 bakes a pan of brownies I will gladly have a few..

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/01/2019 19:29

MawkishTwaddle · 23/01/2019 19:37

Well, if we’re posting our daily intake...

Today I had a big bowl of granola and a coffee for breakfast.
A jacket potato with tuna mayo and cheese with a side salad for lunch.
A Graze lemon drizzle flapjack for an afternoon snack.
A Charlie Bigham’s chicken and mushroom risotto with sprouts and broccoli for tea.
Also a beer and a gin and tonic.

WorraLiberty · 23/01/2019 19:40

To feel well over 40, you really have to try and be healthy. It's not like being a student. It's not about vanity. It's health and feeling well. You do have to be mindful of carbs, unless you want to look 5 months pregnant with shit skin and hair and energy

I'm nearly 50 and that's not true for me at all.

I've never given carbs a second thought, yet I've got bundles of energy, a flat stomach and nice hair and skin.

Mind you, I put the nice skin down to drinking a lot of water.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/01/2019 19:43

I think there is something about being single though. I cooked all the time when married - loved vegan recipes and just experimenting with new recipes in general. When I became single that all changed - it genuinely seems silly to cook for 1. I can make toast if I want to - cooking actual food just seems silly.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/01/2019 19:43

Ahh yes bread is a mortal enemy.all those toxic free radicals just polluting you
I worked with someone who when they got paid bought month worth ready meals
They ate all day breakfast from a can

Odoreida · 23/01/2019 19:44

all of you who exist on beige food - how are you not SO CONSTIPATED? I love vegetables and eat a lot of them (also crisps, chocolate, toast and the like) but I also know I could not do without them.

Siameasy · 23/01/2019 19:44

I have a chuckle at pretentious food and a lot of it sounds like cardboard.
People tend to pity anyone who doesn’t eat the standard fayre but not all of us are jaded.
My diet encourages a pork scratching and other politically incorrect foods so it’s not all doom and gloom in the diet world
I am having a great time (Keto) and wondering if I’m doing something wrong as I ate at midday and I’m not hungry but poor DH is🧐

Teacher22 · 23/01/2019 19:44

I eat crazy-stupid diety food in the week and drink no alcohol. At the weekend I eat what I want and drink fizz on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It seems to work for me.

I don’t make a fuss about it. I think that is what drives everyone up the wall about other people’s eating. They make such a hooha. Who gives really?

I never, ever want to hear about anyone’s breakfast kale smoothie again. And I will never mention my two breakfast Digestives and Kenyan coffee.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 23/01/2019 19:44

IT varies depending on what I'm doing. Today, I had a long day at work, so it was Slimfast for breakfast as I was running late, cold pizza for lunch due to no time to make sandwiches this morning, and will probably be something like (batch-cooked and frozen) bolognese for tea.

Tomorrow I'm working from home, so it's likely to be toast and marmite for breakfast, scrambled eggs for lunch, with or without toast depending on how many eggs are left, and something full of vegetables for tea, maybe roast veg with spicy chickpeas, as I'll have time to do it.

If I had cold pizza and Slimfast every day, I'd be unhealthy. If some days I'm busy and disorganised, I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

HenweeArcher · 23/01/2019 19:52

Me! Actually no, usually I eat reasonably healthily (but normal healthy, not excessively so!) with a few treats but today has been spectacularly shite.
I have eaten today:
Toast with marmite and honey (separate slices obviously!)
A cheese and onion slice and a jam doughnut
A bowl of leftover pasta
Pizza
Banana bread

A more average day would be:
Porridge with nuts and sultanas
Beans or eggs on rye bread or leftovers from the night before
A chocolate bar and a diet fizzy drink
Quorn chilli
A small dessert

Firstty · 23/01/2019 19:53

Me!
Breakfast- shreddies or peanut butter on toast

Lunch- Pitta, hummus, salad, olives ( or a costa toastie if I haven't packed lunch)

Snacks- whatever biscuits or cakes have appeared in the office that day

Dinner- depends on who can be arsed to cook. Stew, fajitas, baked potato with beans and cheese, takeaway

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/01/2019 19:53

I know with faddy folk with a shocking grasp of nutrition/science
Eg all carbs bad, restrictive food group, guzzling apple vinegar, and clean eating
They are deadly serious about quasi nutrition seeking advice from badly trained quacks who have a “diploma” in TalkinShite
Nutritionist is not a protected title, anyone can set up and call themselves a nutritionist.
