Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

siam That is simply not true. There are a number of causes of diabetes type 2.

www.endocrineweb.com/conditions/type-2-diabetes/type-2-diabetes-causes

Main risk factors are inactivity, weight, too much alcohol, genetic and too much fat.

Raspberry88 · 23/01/2019 13:31

*not to

drspouse · 23/01/2019 13:36

As the OP has posted, processing could include pasteurising, freezing, making butter or cheese...
Or indeed peeling or chopping - fruit salad and boiled potatoes are both processed.

Theunreasonableone · 23/01/2019 13:38

Change the cornflakes for Shreddies and I'm eating exactly the same as you OP.

It always makes me laugh though that posters will profess to eating half a lettuce leaf and some dust but then sink half a bottle of wine and a couple of gins in the evening to great applause from half of MN.

Just checking into SANDWICHGATE to say I just very much enjoyed my inverted snobbery cheese and pickle dangerwich and feel even more strongly today that having the privileged opportunity to eat a wide and varied diet as and when I desire is a luxury which brings me great happiness therefore fulfilling my excellent health requirements.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 13:42

I may also add star bar to today's foraging list.

Peanutss · 23/01/2019 13:42

WunderBlah

I felt compelled to get my sandwich on brown bread today.

I did have half a lemon drizzle tart from the bakery down the road though. Saved the other for OH later. Maybe it will reach him, maybe it won't!

I have an ED and eating normally is completely alien to me. I have to really concentrate and treat it as a diet, to have 3 meals a day, not too much and not too little. I am either horribly undereating (1 banana and a slice of toast a day) or overeating (entire packet of biscuits in one sitting, several bags of crisps a day, huge meals etc.) It's so fucking hard. I wish I could not think about it.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 13:46

I like the Warburton's seeded batch, v flavoursome but also partial to a tesco wholegrain or an asda tigerloaf.

It seems you would be doing your OH a favour by eating his half so he doesn't have to go to a&e later with his criminal diet!

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 13:47

actually is it tesco who does the tigerloaf? whoever makes it, it smells wonderful

Runner I am sorry to hear that, but glad you have a system that is working. I hope over time it gets easier and you can enjoy with less stress. Flowers

My favourite dangerwich is a crusty white cob with real butter and cheese and onion. Heavenly!

Siameasy · 23/01/2019 13:56

Shiterunner
That sounds really hard ❤️

I do empathise because I am a food addict and only now I have quit my “drug” (carbs) do I see how bloody awful it is to either be trying to avoid food or spending all day thinking about it. Starving all day and doing stupid things to avoid opening the flood gates.

My friend is similar to you and is doing Bright Line Eating. The lady behind it approaches the topic from the pov of someone who was a drug addict as well.

drspouse · 23/01/2019 13:57

I've had a halloumi wrap for lunch. Dangerwich or MN approved?

Peanutss · 23/01/2019 13:58

drspouse I don't know, it sounds very processed to me.

Oh good point, I didn't milk the cows myself either.

Cloudhopping · 23/01/2019 14:07

I believe I eat fairly ‘normally’ and don’t think I have any issues with food (or if I do, I can mostly control myself if that makes sense?)

For breakfast I’ll have one or two slices of toast, full fat butter and marmite.

Lunch will normally be a sandwich of some sort with a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit.

Tea will either be something healthy cooked from scratch or will be chuck in the oven things like cod and chips, pasta and packet sauce with garlic bread.

Snacks will be biscuits or fruit.

I think I probably eat a balance of processed/non- processed foods.

I have a very very sweet tooth but try and avoid choc etc most of the time as i cannot stop once I start (so perhaps that’s not so ‘normal’) and it makes me feel ill afterwards.

I am fairly fit and well and never had any weight issues if that’s relevant.

Marushka82 · 23/01/2019 14:09

I don't understand why people feel the need to demonise smoothies and kale :)
I love food and try to eat as healthy as possible and by that I mean avoiding food that is overprocessed and full of sugar or other crap.

Today I had (I'm doing a vegetarian January after reading about impact meat rearing has on environment and just trying to challenge myself to reduce my meat consumption):

B: smoothie: banana, almond milk, spinach and hemp seeds (around 6.30AM)
B2: porridge with mango
L: baked sweet potato, broccoli, half avocado, shredded red cabbage
Snack: hummus or lentil crisps
D: potato and lentil stew with kale

I generally find that a lot of things can be made in bulk or sometimes in advance. I also doubt I would be ravenously hungry an hour after eating a sandwich for lunch but I get that some people are just not very hungry Grin

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 23/01/2019 14:10

I had a sausage and egg sarnie for breakfast, chicken nuggets for lunch and I'll be having a meal deal for tea because I'm at work then with a 5 pack of Sainsbury's vanilla doughnuts sat on my desk staring at me (they wont stay there long though) 😂

DownstairsMixUp · 23/01/2019 14:11

My diets crap and I don't mind putting it out there

Breakfast today porridge and coffee

Lunch eggs and bacon on crumpets with a Milky Way crispy rolls

Dinner will be enchiladas. I cba 😂

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 23/01/2019 14:13

As has been said so many times on here, and as OP has also said, there is no ‘normal’. I do think that most women do think about what they eat to some extent. I envy the ones who claim to eat whatever they want, whenever they want without gaining weight though.

I think there are plenty of people who are grabbing coffee and toast or cereal for breakfast, a meal deal from boots or Tesco or M&S or wherever for lunch, then a reasonable dinner, sometimes a healthy one, sometimes not. Interspersed with biscuits, tea, coffee and some fruit or nuts, maybe.

Equally I am sure there are people who sit down and eat porridge with fruit for breakfast, take a perfectly balanced, homemade salad with protein and some carbs for lunch, drink green tea and have a very healthy dinner.

And probably people who eat no breakfast, no lunch and then eat loads at night.

And so on. Normal is what is normal for you, and it might be healthy, it might not.

Marushka82 · 23/01/2019 14:13

oops, I meant, I have no doubt I would be hungry after just a sandwich for lunch

MawkishTwaddle · 23/01/2019 14:14

You lot should look at the 'Not Plant Based' website.

It's full of information about why fad diets are a crap idea and celebrates food and eating.

IMVHO there is a lot to be said for eating the traditional recipes of the country/region you are living in, with perhaps some variants from other cultures that are based on similar, seasonal, regionally produced food stuffs. I’m making an apple crumble for tonight (and will serve it with thick raw Jersey cream I bought from the dairy farmer this morning), and before that we’ll have a fricassée of chicken with mashed potatoes. I can’t think of a single imported ingredient in that meal apart from the vanilla in the vanilla sugar I put in the crumble mix. There are several vegetables and herbs in the broth I’m making for the fricassée and I will put carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms in the sauce.
