Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Also, I enjoy food too! It's one of my biggest pleasures in life. But we have to understand that we're also eating to keep ourselves healthy, not out of pure enjoyment.

marymarkle · 22/01/2019 19:04

goodwinter I have a chronic health problem that will have a much bigger impact when I am older than what I eat.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 19:05

I do appreciate what you're saying. Health is important, I get that. If it got to a point where I felt I was seriously unhealthy because of my choices I would make some changes.

As it stands right now, not depriving myself and not restricting my food groups so heavily works for me. I'm not unfit, I'm not fat or overweight. Could I be healthier/fitter/skinnier? Yes I'm sure I could, but I don't really want to or it's not that important to me to be as fit as I possibly can be should I say.

I think depriving yourself to the extremes we see sometimes is a bit daft.

My best friend for example is so obsessed with weight and exercise. She looks great, amazing in fact. But it's so strict, she herself despises it sometimes because she can't have x y or z.

What's the point? She could be a few stone heavier and look just a beautiful / not be deathly unhealthy but enjoy a bit of cake as well.

I eat normally! The competitive orthorexia on here is laughable. Also probably mostly bullshit!

Whyareyouallabunchof · 22/01/2019 19:20

I'm currently doing 20:4 fasting so not exactly "normal" but in my eating window I have whatever I fancy, tonight it was roast beef and all the trimmings, still have an hour left and bought some mini brownies earlier so I'm thinking a couple of those.

Currently very very overweight around 11 stone to lose, this way is working well for me.

Couple of mantras I try to remember

"Eat to live, not live to eat"
"Food is fuel, not therapy"

mokapot · 22/01/2019 19:23

Me too

Muffin and sausage mc muffin

Thai green curry

Leftover curry

With Diet Coke, coffee and biccies inbetween

Jenny17 · 22/01/2019 19:24

What's the point?
As you put it she looks great and is healthier.

She could be a few stone heavier and look just a beautiful / not be deathly unhealthy but enjoy a bit of cake as well
Your friend obviously doesn't think so.

But it's so strict, she herself despises it sometimes because she can't have x y or z
Only your opinion.

Thisnamechanger · 22/01/2019 19:24

I had a banana for breakfast, salmon and veg for lunch and an apple for a snack Blush they're just nice though! Meal deal sandwiches are so stale and plasticy!

JinglingHellsBells · 22/01/2019 19:29

I enjoy food. I don't really care if I live a few years less because I don't eat mung beans for lunch

why does healthy food have to be less enjoyable than rubbish?
I never understand this.

I've just had a lovely dinner

salmon - yay!- over baked with ginger, honey and soy
mixed salad- spinach, rocket, beetroot
avocado
grated carrot
red pepper
drizzle of olive oil

Greek yoghurt and berries.

Delicious
.
You can keep your rubbish food and diet Coke, thanks

smallgirlproblems · 22/01/2019 19:29

bloody hell I've read 5 more pages of other peoples food diaries (yawn) and still not found out why I am a shit parent for allowing my children to have sandwiches!!
To be clear they regularly eat other food that would (possibly ) be approved of like porridge, carrot sticks, fruit, pasta with a homemade sauce, or a roast dinner, greek yoghurt etc but they do have sandwiches or wraps most days.

halfwitpicker · 22/01/2019 19:31

I post on the what have you eaten threads regularly and always tell the truth

Justanotherlurker · 22/01/2019 19:33

I'm one.

I have had a customized sausage muffin from Maccies this morning ( 3 sausage patties, one bacon and 2 egg Blush).

Didn't eat lunch, but on a curry tonight.

To be fair tomorrow is leg day and I have BJJ tomorrow night

goodwinter · 22/01/2019 19:35

Not aimed at you in particular, OP. The following comment really stuck out to me:

Yesterday for example I had nesquik for breakfast, I bacon butty and a bag of crisps for lunch and baked potatoes with cheese and beans for tea with 1000 cups of tea a Maltesers chocolate bar some skittles and some biscuits throughout the day

That's the kind of thing that I really don't think we should be calling normal.

smallgirlproblems · 22/01/2019 19:35

I am quite new to this but why do people need/want to know what someone else has eaten?? (I guess I would have been very interested when I was anorexic but now I'm not sure it woud be very interesting....)

Glitterblue · 22/01/2019 19:37

Today I had:

Special k and 3 x coffee for breakfast
Toast for lunch (had no idea what to have, it was getting towards school run time....)
Macaroni cheese tonight

dancinfeet · 22/01/2019 19:39

well I'm happy to say that I eat biscuits usually for breakfast or toast, a sandwich or super noodles for lunch, and some sort of chocolate for a snack. And whatever I can be bothered to throw in the oven for tea. I do exercise for around 30 hrs a week though as I teach dance classes - so it does counter balance it somewhat.

Zoflorabore · 22/01/2019 19:40

I've had 2 packs of Pop Tarts today, I love food.
Sod all of the living off a lettuce leaf bollocks.

I'm always thinking about what to have for the next meal, love food shopping, love trying new foods and love cooking.

Size 18 and happy Smile

GenevaMaybe · 22/01/2019 19:41

I eat normally I think
2 slices soda bread with honey and tea for breakfast (we ran out of butter)
Mexican chicken sandwich and chocolate brownie for lunch
Avocado, tomato and cheese salad for dinner with some squares chocolate for dessert

GenevaMaybe · 22/01/2019 19:41

I am a size 8/10 and happy

JessiCake · 22/01/2019 19:42

I'm finding these lists of what people eat rather depressing :(

It's not the food lists per se but me!

I have a truly truly chronic and intransigent problem with slow-trasnit constipation (ie without laxatives every single day my bowels just do not function AT ALL. And I mean AT ALL) and I have to be very very careful about what I eat. If I slack off the fruit and certain vegetables, if I eat too much meat, if I drink too much coffee and don't mainline water like it's going out of fashion, my gut stops functioning even WITH the laxative use. (NB I am under consultant care for this, I'm not just knocking back random laxatives here)

I'm thoroughly fed up reading loads of the food 'diaries' on this thread to see the massive amounts of crap that loads of people eat, and that you all still have functioning bowels (I assume???!!)

It's bloody unfair!!!

As far as I can tell a lot of you only really eat the occasional pea, an apple here and there, and yet here's me eating the following and my gut is still barely working!!

B - porridge (made with water), blueberries, walnuts
Snack - plain full-fat yogurt, nuts, apple
Lunch - Avocado on rye bread
Snack - Nakd bar (you know, those date-based raw food bars)
Dinner - daal, random veg, berries for pudding, small amount dark chocolate

I mean, FFS!!!!!

I've had eating disorders in the past so I'm very very wary of orthorexia but this is a diet that's enforced on me because my bloody intestine just doesn't work (hasn't for years).

Do people really manage on almost no fruit and veg??!

I'm jealous :(

lljkk · 22/01/2019 19:45

There are ppl on MN who talk about only defecating once every 10-15 days, JessiCake. I often ponder how they do that.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 19:46

Only your opinion

No, as I said 'she herself despises it sometimes' as in, she has told me this.

OP posts:
ScienceIsTruth · 22/01/2019 19:48

I know that feeling, peachgreen, I have to watch that my total daily cals don't exceed 1200. I had a really bad relationship with food until about 10 years ago, and it completely messed up my metabolism, so much so, that I now can't eat a normal amount without gaining weight. I do eat what I want now, but only in small amounts. Some days I may eat a crisp sandwich and 5 or 6 biscuits, but I won't have dinner so it balances out (even though it's not really healthy).

I could do with losing about 7kgs though, and my goal this year is to choose healthier snacks, or to not snack at all.

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 22/01/2019 19:49

I think it's great that you don't have any issues surrounding food or any health anxieties relating to food. You probably don't realise how liberating that must be. Food is complicated for many people for many different reasons. Don't sweat it.
