Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
greeneyedlulu · 23/01/2019 22:59

Why are people getting so weird about loo brushes at the moment????
The team TOMM on fb are constantly bleating on about this subject as though loo brushes are secretly responsible for all the evil in the world...... you've all gone mad!!!

It's a loo brush!! Designed to clean the toilet, be rinsed off by a toilet flush and to sit in some bleach in its holder quietly minding it's own business whilst the rest of world goes on about it's day til the next time it's used!!

No way on God's green earth was it ever designed to take a trip and a soak in your dishwasher! To let go of all its unsightly poo particles so that they may eventually come to rest in your gin glasses, in the ridges of your cutlery, to live in that slight chip on your dinner plate!!

Craziness personified if you ever thought this was ok!!

Cynderella · 23/01/2019 23:14

I've not used loo brushes for decades. I used to use old washing up brushes. Now, I don't use a brush. A bucket of hot soapy water sloshed around will wash most things of the surface. Maybe some loo roll to help. Then a washable cloth. I'm obviously wearing my Marigolds for all of this.

I'd trust the dishwasher to clean a brush, but I'm not that squeamish, I guess. However, it's not necessary, I think.

BreevandercampLGJ · 23/01/2019 23:19

Steradent and bleach in the toilet bowl over night.

Take the toilet roll holder out side and pour boiling water on it.

Job done.

Flamingle18 · 23/01/2019 23:35

Don't leave bleach in the toilet over night as if someone gets up to use the toilet in the night or goes before its been flushed in the morning, it does not mix well with urine and releases gases which can cause a bad reaction

Sussedyouout · 23/01/2019 23:36

That is vile! Bleach & boiling water in a bucket will do

Murphs1 · 23/01/2019 23:50

IMHO there is absolutely no need for a toilet brush. A good squirt of bleach down the loo daily and if needed in between is enough to keep your loo clean. Toilet brushes are awful, and putting them in the dishwasher????!!!! Absolutely disgusting 🤢

BreevandercampLGJ · 23/01/2019 23:56

In this house if the toilet brush is in the bowl, it is a given that it needs flushing first. Granted however my DS is 18.

cheval · 24/01/2019 00:47

sodas crystals, £1 for big pack, white vinegar, 50p, and hot water. Keep a bucket to soak unsavoury things in. Combo cleans things brilliantly. Unplugs drains. Stop with the bleach. And other unenvironmental products.

Devilinatwinset · 24/01/2019 01:39

Reminds me of the episode of embarrassing bodies where a woman gave herself coffee enemas just so she could shit, then gleefully popped the bit that went up her bum in the dishwasher. Even Dr.Pixie couldn't mask her disgust.
On another note, I am gobsmacked at the the pp who buys a new dog bowl every month!!! Just buy an unbreakable stainless steel one

Nunya · 24/01/2019 04:51

Yes it would be absolutely disgusting to put a loo brush in your dishwasher!! I’m another that has never heard or thought of this before. Do people actually do this!?
How can the loo brush get pieces of tissue paper stuck to it as pp said? Is the toilet not being flushed first before the brush is used? That’s how it is supposed to be done.
And for everyone suggesting boiling hot water with bleach, the hot water kills the enzymes in the bleach making it less effective. Tepid water with the bleach is sufficient.

Mothership4two · 24/01/2019 04:59

Every morning when you clean the bathroom 81Byerley? Shock Need a lie-down just thinking about this!

SciFiRules · 24/01/2019 06:15

Not all of the bacteria present in fecal matter will be killed by the temperatures in a dish washer. Bleach solution in a bucket overnight is ideal.
As for people who don't "need" toilet brushes, what about stubborn remnants...or does our shared ape genome affect some of us more than others!

nottakingthisanymore · 24/01/2019 07:02

I’m no housekeeper and pretty relaxed about dirt but my god this is beyond gross. Why would you even contemplate this?

Juells · 24/01/2019 07:23

While boking at the thought of putting the lav brush in the dishwasher, I do have a gross habit of my own - I don't like putting dog or cat dishes in the sink, so wash them under the flush in the toilet.

kentparent · 24/01/2019 07:29

I put Milton tablet in the loo brush holder thing and change that every time I clean the loo brush. I would rather buy new than use the dishwasher

BBInGinDrinking · 24/01/2019 07:39

GrinYes, that's pretty gross, and probably wastes water too. If you don't want to just clean the sink afterwards, have a bowl or bucket just for washing pet bowls.

countrywalk · 24/01/2019 07:44

Ugh 🤮

SchnitzelVonCrum · 24/01/2019 08:47

Bucket, boiling water, bleach/dettol in garage then lay them out on a clean bin bag to dry. I’m actually sure what you’ve described would be fine but I wouldn’t be able to do it Shock

SchnitzelVonCrum · 24/01/2019 08:52

@ScFiRules 🤣. Seriously puts webt mysteriously missing when we had work done on house over summer (not on bathroom) and I kept forgetting to by a new one so i’ve just been putting bleach down for a few hours then a pan of boiling water down, leave that for a bit then flush, brings it up sparkling!

angelfacecuti75 · 24/01/2019 08:59

I think you can buy loobrushes on their own in Wilko (without the container) for 85p I would just get a couple when I got paid and discard it if you are that bothered or soak in a bit of water and bleach and swill it round every so often. I often use antibacterial wipes for the container as I can just chuck them away afterwards or u could use loo roll / kitchen roll soaked in antibacterial cleaner/bleach / disinfectant...

SchnitzelVonCrum · 24/01/2019 09:11

Mmm seen there’s people on here discussing other things people put in their dishwasher. Well I once read on here about sunglasses. Mine were full of sun cream and sand so I popped them in. Ruined! They were expensive ones which I loved and you can’t get anymore.

Dishwasher is for crockery!

ralfeesmum · 24/01/2019 10:07

NO!!!
Put the thing in a bucket of very hot water with some washing soda crystals and leave to soak. But where did you get the idea that maybe it's OK to try it in the dishwasher? Is it "Silly Ideas Day"?

ktp100 · 24/01/2019 11:24

Oh my days! Buy a new loo brush!!!!

browneyes77 · 24/01/2019 13:48
