Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
Snowydaysaregreat · 23/01/2019 19:54

I used to work in a cafe in a large chain. The mop bucket would be so vile it grew mould, they put it through the dishwasher every few weeks.. It was the only time it was cleaned... Along with the mop head.
Made me want to vomit. Often they'd put it in with other items like cups.
That's disgusting

bubblewire · 23/01/2019 19:55

Really???? The dog bowl doesnt go in the DW....£1.50 for a new one in Asda...buy a new one every month.

The wastefulness of this makes me cringe. As someone said upthread, all this plastic will be around forever. Buy a china bowl and wash it. It will outlast the dog.

bubblewire · 23/01/2019 19:57

I don't have a loo brush, btw. Skids get a squirt of bleach and a flush. I can see the need if you are in a hard water area though. But they are yukky things.

Cherrysherbet · 23/01/2019 20:01

Just bleach it

froufroufoxes · 23/01/2019 20:05

Old fashioned wooden loo brush here.

Carriecakes80 · 23/01/2019 20:05

Bucket of water n bleach - I have managed to keep a house of eight alive for many years, and a toilet very clean, and my nice toilet brush (don't buy too cheap you get what you pay for! lol) is still going after four years... I wouldn't ever put one into a dishwasher, but then, I am the Dishwasher.....Thats a WHOLE other thread I'm guessing...

pigsDOfly · 23/01/2019 20:08

There have been other threads on here over the time I've been on mn about posters putting weird things in their dishwashers.

The first one I came across was someone asking about putting her Crocs in the dishwasher. I was amazed at the amount of people claiming they put their Crocs in the dishwasher and their loo brushes.

Completely unnecessary.

I have a dishwasher because I don't want to stand at the sink washing up every time I have a load of dirty dishes, it's not there for washing things like loo brushes. It would make more sense to put them in the washing machine, if you must. But why would you? It's for cleaning the loo, you're not planning to eat off it; I hope.

I put loo cleaner down the loo and leave the brush to soak in there. I leave it overnight and in the morning the brush is completely clean. Having said that, my loo brushes don't actually get all manky and shitty anyway as I rinse them in the loo after every use.

Sb74 · 23/01/2019 20:09

My god that sounds completely unhygienic. Food can get stuck in dishwater parts so really wouldn’t fancy poo in there! I can’t believe you would even consider that an option. Very strange!?? And people agreeing?! Weird.

Sb74 · 23/01/2019 20:17

I can’t believe the op is asking what people do with their toilet brushes. Just buy a new one when the one you have looks like it needs replacing. Surely that’s obvious? And people aren’t saying what they do as it’s pretty obvious! I think the norm is to wash it in the toilet! Because anything else is disgusting. I think it’s concerning you think this is a reasonable question to ask op.

pigsDOfly · 23/01/2019 20:21

Makes me wonder if I've ever eaten or even drunk a cup of coffee at someone's house who does this. It really is disgusting.

The average domestic dishwasher, whilst it definitely cleans better than washing dishes by hand, does not actually sterilize anything; and just so you know the Norovirus cannot be killed in a dishwasher.

Something to think about when you're packing your dishwasher with a shitty loo brush.

busyhonestchildcarer · 23/01/2019 20:23

Could maybe understand washing machine but dishwasher.Yuk!

LadyDeadpool · 23/01/2019 20:24

Buy the toilet duck disposable. You get a handle that then clips onto these little pads with toilet cleaning solution in you use them then release the handle and it drops down the toilet. They dissolve just like toilet paper.

AlbaChick · 23/01/2019 20:25

Oh my, if the lavvy brush gets washed in the dishwasher, I suppose it’s okay to rinse your plates off with a lavvy flush 🤣 Sorry OP, not having a go, but that thought just popped into my head. 🤣 I do agree we use too much plastic but I don’t have any solution to the problem other than soaking in bleach and hot water. That’s what I do with mine.

Crushedgrapesworkforme · 23/01/2019 20:26

🤢🤢 that’s grim .. it’s in the same category as raw chicken roulette for gastro e-coli bugs that would haunt you for weeks..

just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should z plenty of alternative options bleach/ zoflora/ white vinegar & baking soda, seperate bucket or use the toilet holder.. and tip the waste down the toilet ..
that’s why toilet water is seperate from household water.. your potentially contaminating the drinking water with unhygienic waste water.. very different water treatment process.. 🤢🤢🤢

MotherOfDragonite · 23/01/2019 20:28

Barf!

Can't you get a wood/bamboo scrubber for the loo or something? Something that you feel ok about throwing away and replacing, because it's not plastic? Like this natural fibre one (only £5.99) www.trouva.com/products/redecker-natural-fibre-lav-toilet-brush

MarieKondo · 23/01/2019 20:29

“Every morning when I clean the bathroom“

Wowsers! I’m just marvelling that you clean the bathroom every morning! Impressive!

Kaykay06 · 23/01/2019 20:30

Nooooo
How dirty can your loo brush be? You can buy them so cheap too sorry but even I couldn’t contemplate that turns my stomach

Juells · 23/01/2019 20:31

HRTFT because I'm ready to spew having read just the first page.

WTF? Loo brushes in dishwasher? I'd never eat off a plate from that dishwasher again.

Applesaregreenandred · 23/01/2019 20:31

That's the must disgusting thing I've ever heard and believe me my DH and DS have pretty much cornered the market in toilet related poor hygiene . Please tell me you are a teenage boy and not an adult woman EnvyEnvyEnvy

birdiewoof · 23/01/2019 20:32

I’m on the verge of retching reading this 🤢🤢🤢

DaisyYellow · 23/01/2019 20:37

This idea is beyond disgusting. You’ve been given some suggestions OP, please pick one that doesn’t involve having faecal matter swirling around your dishwasher.

I think I’d go NC if I ever found out someone had served me using crockery that shared a dishwasher with a loo brush. Even if they had run a hot wash between them!

Honestly who comes up with ideas like this?!

starzig · 23/01/2019 20:46

Reusable cloth or sponge always cleans better.

SirGawain · 23/01/2019 20:47

Uggh!! That’s disgusting OP, they’re 65 pence in Wilkinson’s.

seven201 · 23/01/2019 20:49

Confused don't do it!
I just put some bleach in the bottom bit of he loo brush holder every 6 months or so.

Also, all these people saying use boiling water AND bleach? I though bleach was only effective with cold water and that hot water makes it less effective somehow. It might be a made up fact I've heard though.

TigerTooth · 23/01/2019 21:00

Just bleach it

No - that doesn't get the bits of pooh off.

Things in DW:
Loo brush
Garden pots
Crocs
Metal top mop brush
Beach toys
