Put loo brushes in the dishwasher on their own, on hot setting, followed by a hot wash on empty??!!!

OP posts:
tysiony · 23/01/2019 18:35

Blurgh! reminds me of the time I caught the new bar staff putting dirty ashtrays in the dishwasher at the end of the night. It stank and he couldn’t understand why it was wrong.

The thought of anything that’s had poo on it going anywhere near something that will contain my eating utensils makes me feel physically sick.

My OH’s mom will use the same cloth she washes dishes with to wipe the kitchen bin lid. It makes me want to vomit 🤢🤢

Im just super weird about any stuff like that!

My cousin once put a picture on Facebook of a big spider she’d trapped under a glass. I told her never to give me that glass if I came over to her house. She thought I was insane but I knew that if I used that glass all I’d picture is spiders legs up the side of it every time I went to take a drink. Urgh. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it. Yes, I’m THAT pedantic GrinGrin

pilates · 23/01/2019 18:56

Yuk no way

ChiaraRimini · 23/01/2019 18:57

Only on MN do people think loo brushes are disgusting and need cleaning in the dishwasher or burning with fire.
Who has ever been ill as a result of germs from a loo brush? No one.
OP, rinse it in the bog like a normal person when you clean the bathroom. Chuck a bit of bleach on if you want. Bin it when the bristles are wearing out. And get on with the rest of your life for God's sake!!

Notreallyhappy · 23/01/2019 18:58

Really???? The dog bowl doesnt go in the DW....£1.50 for a new one in Asda...buy a new one every month.

embo1 · 23/01/2019 18:58
  1. Enzymes aren't alive, so you can't kill them.
  2. There are no enzymes in bleach!
manicmij · 23/01/2019 18:59

Would never consider. Why not put bleach in the toilet and plonk the brush in, leave for several hours then rinse by pouring warm water over the brush at the toilet.

RoodleNoodle · 23/01/2019 19:03

Toilet ducks fresh brush. I never felt like a toilet brush was ever clean enough to clean the toilet.

whatsleep · 23/01/2019 19:04

Put bleach in toilet, leave toilet brush in the bleach loo water all day. Come home from work to a clean brush AND loo..... multi-tasking at its best Grin

Bringbackthestripes · 23/01/2019 19:07

Here you go @meladeso biodegradable loo brush. Sorry if you have had a million links already.

This thread is disturbing please dont put it in your dishwasher. They are not marketed as all purpose household item washers for a reason lol.
Reason being it’s disgusting 🤮

I have a loo brush its not manky and yes i do change it once it begins to look like its stopped living its best life Grin

BeverlyHillsCop · 23/01/2019 19:11

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮

Buy a new one for crying out loud! Or pour boiling water over it or stick in an old bucket with bleach!

emandems30 · 23/01/2019 19:12

Good grief that’s grim... bleach and hot water is fine

RedWineIsFabulous · 23/01/2019 19:12

This is one of the worst things I’ve ever read on this site.

It’s absolutely disgusting to even contemplate it EnvyEnvyEnvy

Bleuuuuuuurgh. Surely this must be a joke.

delboysskinandblister · 23/01/2019 19:12

Get rid of the loo brush.

DW only heat to 65 degrees - this does not sterilise.

I am never eating at anyone's house again..........[shocked]

Missingstreetlife · 23/01/2019 19:14

This is obsessional cleaning gone mad. It's about keeping it clean, not spreading it all over the place. A loo brush will last years until the bristles get worn. Yes it needs to be cleaned, and the pot it stands in. Shirley Conrad wrote Superwoman in which she recommended washing bins and all sorts in the bath, which you then wash out. Hot water and bleach or household cleaner is fine. Or you could lick it.

RedWineIsFabulous · 23/01/2019 19:18

Missingstreetlife

There is absolutely no way that putting a toilet brush in a DISHWASHER is “ Obsessional Cleaning gone mad”

What it is, is utterly and absolutely fucking disgusting.

I love cleaning and there’s no way ( if I had one) I would be putting a toilet brush in the dishwasher to clean it!!!!!

ShockShockShock

Sara107 · 23/01/2019 19:19

That’s gross, dishwashers are for washing, they are not sterilising units. If your brush is filthy get a new one. Keep it clean by rinsing off in the fresh water as the loo is flushing. Douse it with some bleach and soak in the loo if needs be. Boil a kettle and pour a litre of scalding water over it ( in the loo) if you feel it needs sterilising.

JustOneShadeOfGrey · 23/01/2019 19:19

That’s “bogging”!

Geddit???

delboysskinandblister · 23/01/2019 19:32

Threw out the toilet years ago and pinch my morning loaf in the dishwasher and use the Rinse Aid for a bidet. My bum's sparkling clean.

ToftyAC · 23/01/2019 19:44

My DP does it.....

Olu123 · 23/01/2019 19:45

What made OP go as far as thinking dishwasher to wash a loo brush? Not even the washing machine.

Serin · 23/01/2019 19:52

I dont have a dishwasher (I like chatting to DH or the DC as we wash up).

I don't have a loo brush either, (filthy, vile and plastic).

What are you all eating to pebbledash the loo so badly that it needs scrubbing?

TigerTooth · 23/01/2019 19:54

I do this., 2 pots 2 brushes.
Its fine.
