Just about to take dd to drama classes at the library, I have a book to collect from library wondering if I'm brave enough to go to w'spoons with the book and read for an hour while I wait for dd to finish her class, the library closes at 7 the drama class is 7-8 Would you think it was odd if you saw someone alone in Wetherspoons? The car park I'll park up in is in the middle of the library and w'spoons

No. I'd go to a pub or cafe alone if I was killing time, but draw the line at Weatherspoons.

shartsi · 21/01/2019 18:58

Yes I would. I love my local Wetherspoons.

Bumblebee39 · 21/01/2019 18:58

Depends on the spoons

I've been to some which are frequented mostly by older people enjoying a pint or two or coffee/ food etc. Or to watch the sport after work.

I have also been to one or two that are just students getting messy from 10am in the morning

InspectorIkmen · 21/01/2019 18:59

Given their stance on Brexit I'm never entering another Wetherspoons in my life, alone or with anyone else

Amen to this!

MrWolfknowsthetime · 21/01/2019 19:00

I have many times. And yes, use the app to order.

IndigoSpritz · 21/01/2019 19:00

Certainly. I'm going to mine in about half an hour. Cheap Guinness on Monday nights !

WildFlower2019 · 21/01/2019 19:07

Many moons ago, I used to work in one. Not only did we serve LOTS of people who came in alone, we'd also sit and eat/drink solo in the bar on breaks or after our shifts. So I don't think anybody will bat an eyelid 🙂

Crustaceans · 21/01/2019 19:09

I sat in a Wetherspoons on my own with my phone and a coffee while I waited for my bike to be serviced recently. I didn’t feel any weirder than I would have on my own in Starbucks.

Crustaceans · 21/01/2019 19:10

I was put off by the Brexit thing but it was the best of the options available to me as I waited.

jmh740 · 21/01/2019 19:11

The other local pubs will be more rowdy, I do sometimes go to MacDonalds while I wait but that's a 5 mile drive and I ha e to drive past my house to get there. I'm here now feeling quite chilled.

It depends on the branch. I daresay some are more comfortable than others. However, I'm boycotting Wetherspoons now. A shame as I used to enjoy their vegan food but with the lies Tim Martin is promoting about brexit - no way will I add to his profits.

In principle. Yes. Why shouldn't women go ihto pubs on their own?

maddiemookins16mum · 21/01/2019 19:12

Yes, actually it’s ideal and I’ve done it when DD was at a ‘Brownies Event at the local theatre. I even had a glass of wine* and a curry! (and MN on my phone).

For those boycotting Wetherspoons, I suppose it's OK to drop by, have a glass of tap water, and leave these lying around :)

HelenaDove · 21/01/2019 19:28

Has anyone else here had a magazine called Wetherspoon News through their door today?

IndigoSpritz · 21/01/2019 19:54

Yes Helena. Got one last week. First time I've had one delivered. The whole block of flats did.

Raffleeight · 21/01/2019 19:58

I do it all the time when I have to wait for someone/long connection times for trains. I don't think it is unusual at all.

Raspberry88 · 21/01/2019 20:03

I do, all the time. Free refills on coffee and they also have the app so you don't eben need to leave your stuff or table if you wanted to order food.

Raspberry88 · 21/01/2019 20:14

Shocking isn't it...how people in this country are allowed to hold and express differing opinions. You've every right never to go to wetherspoons but stop with the bloody virtue signalling.

InspectorIkmen · 21/01/2019 20:19

How is it virtue signalling Raspberry? I'm not trying to impress anyone - and certainly not trying to impress any Leave voters - and I doubt anyone else is either.
It is simply how I feel about handing a single penny of my money to a manipulative self-serving duplicitous liar.
You express whatever opinions you want and I'll do likewise.

Have you contacted every CEO of every product or service you use and find out their stance on Brexit is?

BunsOfAnarchy · 21/01/2019 20:29

Free refills on lavazza coffee?!
Fuckin hell yeh! Id live there if i could Grin

kaytee87 · 21/01/2019 20:29

I don't particularly like weatherspoons but don't have a problem going nearly anywhere by myself, especially if I have a book.
Obviously you'll have to buy something.

HelenaDove · 21/01/2019 20:32

the bloke loves the sound of his own voice.

HelenaDove · 21/01/2019 20:34
