To ask what you pay per month for childcare?

Currently a SAHM. I have a toddler and a second baby on the way. I'm currently in the bracket of people for whom childcare costs here (in london) would outweigh my own current earning potential, I'm unskilled.

Prior to having DS I worked full time as a cleaner, my monthly take home averaged at £1300pcm. My rent is £1000pcm, then there are bills and food.

I've been quoted around £1000pcm full time childcare for DS alone.

How much cheaper is childcare outside of the SE? What do you pay, per child per month?

Curious because I'm very keen to go back to work, not enjoying being a SAHM full time and need to be making money again.

Wondering if a large part of my problem is the fact I live where I do, where everything costs so much more.

£50 per day, north west England.

Missesmop · 20/01/2019 22:10

Is that for five days per week?

I'm in the north west, ours is £42 a day all inclusive without childcare vouchers, they make it about 20% cheaper I think. Though we only do 3 days a week at the moment.

3WildOnes · 20/01/2019 22:12

I don’t use a day nursery but where I live in SW London nurseries charge £95pd so full time roughly £1900.

Lazypuppy · 20/01/2019 22:13

I pay for 4 mornings a week which comes out around £350 a month

JagerPlease · 20/01/2019 22:13

£65 a day 4 days a week in Brighton (7am to 5pm, I know some places charge £50 a day for shorter days)

Havana7 · 20/01/2019 22:14

I’m in the north west also and pay £728 a month for a 4 day week

Lazypuppy · 20/01/2019 22:14

Oh and that £350 is before 20% tax free childcare is knocked off.

Full day is £38 a day, half day £20 a day. I live in large city in south west

welshweasel · 20/01/2019 22:14

£40 a day so £833 a month full time 8-6, including all meals.

Icandothis2019 · 20/01/2019 22:15

£38.50 per day. Also North West. My DC goes 2 full days a week.

Highpeak · 20/01/2019 22:16

£45 a day all inclusive in Manchester.

Tiredeyes21 · 20/01/2019 22:16

We are North West it’s £44 a day here....
We use tax free childcare so for every £8 we pay the government tops up by £2 .
Then 30 free hours on top of that.. nursery is open . 7.30-6pm all days except bank holidays... we pay 500 a month. Full time without the above is 900 as there is a discount for full time.

theSnuffster · 20/01/2019 22:16

I work in a nursery in the south west, we charge £52 per day.

Tiredeyes21 · 20/01/2019 22:17

This includes three meals a day , nappies and suncream so everything really

IMissGin · 20/01/2019 22:17

£43 a day in Scotland

Mashedpotatobutty · 20/01/2019 22:17

£35-£42 tends to be the daily cost in North West

Bobbiepin · 20/01/2019 22:17

Well this is depressing. SE London/Kent border. 4 days £1,088

cantbeb0thered · 20/01/2019 22:17

South east - £2000 per month for two full time. Mix of childminder and nursery. And bay includes 30 free hours. Disgusting really.

Imaystillbedrunk · 20/01/2019 22:19

Essex here and I pay £25 per day for a childminder

MondeoFan · 20/01/2019 22:19

I use a childminder and pay £350 month.
I earn £700 month.
Get help with childcare costs though through tax credits

Pollaidh · 20/01/2019 22:19

south (but not SE):

£57/day nursery (no nappies etc included) - around £1200 a month
(Plus £5.50/day breakfast club and around £27/after school childcare per day for the older child.)

Childcare vouchers (salary sacrifice) help reduce costs a little, not sure whether that kind of benefit is including with your job, but worth checking if you work for a company. But definitely look into whether you're eligible for free childcare from 2, if you are in a low-income family, and from 3 you should get quite a bit of free childcare.

It's shit, I'm afraid. I've got a well-paid professional job (part-time) and childcare costs eat up my salary, thankfully DH sees childcare costs as being a 'family' cost rather than a simple sum around my salary. It's definitely worth me working for professional development, but also because I would go insane at home.

CookieSwirlC · 20/01/2019 22:20

Dd goes 2.5 days a week and I pay £110pw.

Amanduh · 20/01/2019 22:20

South West, it works out about £1100 a month all in.
It’s not worth it for us, even in a skilled job, what with the hours, getting there/back, any extras and wrap around care if needed outside opening hours.
It’s bloody disheartening.

cementpointing · 20/01/2019 22:20

£52 per day at a private nursery from 8am-6pm. west midlands, fancy-ish town just outside birmingham. £1040 pcm then add school wraparound care of £350, so £1400. we then qualified for 30 free hours which was sooo helpful and took nursery to £450-500
