Is £32 too expensive...

...for Shellac nails?

I only get them done once a month but I've just noticed the price has gone up from £30 to £32. I know it's only a couple of quid but it's just taken me out of my justifiable price bracket.

I'm fairly low maintenance in other beauty areas. Don't dye my hair, wear fairly inexpensive make up, but love the 'polishedness' of having my nails done.

So if you have your nails done, how much do you pay? And would £32 (with a complementary glass of fizz) be too much for you?

Whoa, I need to look around a bit more for different prices.

My local salon is £40 for a gel manicure. £50 for gel extensions with tips (32 and up for infills; more if one has come away) - west/central London.

quiz
You’re hilarious!

Sparklesocks · 20/01/2019 22:30

I pay £20 in SE London

BunsOfAnarchy · 20/01/2019 22:33

I pay 15. No one uses an electric file for shellac/gel colour.
Max ive ever paid is 18. And thats in Superdrug.

kaytee87 · 20/01/2019 22:34

I get gel manicure, pedicure and eyebrow tint every 3 weeks for £45 total. In Scotland.

mysteryfairy · 20/01/2019 22:40

I pay £15 irrespective of whether a soak off required or not. The last colour has been on for 5 weeks and 1 day without chipping at all though obviously grown out quite a bit. Shame it’s a somewhat xmassy shade or I’d have it every time! They do offer coffee but I usually take my own Diet Coke.

I don’t think I could find a salon near me (West Yorkshire) that would charge what you are paying unless I made a special trip to Harvey Nichols!

DownstairsMixUp · 20/01/2019 22:44

Meh I wouldn't but I've got my own kit. My luxuries are gin 😂

DelayedUnicorns · 20/01/2019 22:45

I work out of two offices - one in a city in Hampshire and the other in a middle class town in West Sussex. £20 in Hampshire and £35 in West Sussex.

Chickenwings85 · 20/01/2019 22:53

If anyone's finding the prices in their local area too much, why not try your local college hair and beauty department? You can often get your treatments done there of the same quality - they might be alittle slower - at a fraction of the cost.

Worsethingshappenatsea · 20/01/2019 23:06

I'm in Birmingham - not city centre tho and pay £33 for bio sculpture gel including soak off.

Tried other places but just prefer this one staff are lovely and it's local with easy parking . It's my only real treat, I work with the public and get lots of nice comments about my nails so this is how I justify the cost to myself !

Ragwort · 20/01/2019 23:12

Agree with chicken, I always use the local college for hair & beauty treatments. I live quite rurally but have a choice of 4 local college salons. No Prosecco but sometimes there’s a training restaurant as well for a good value meal. Grin.

notapizzaeater · 20/01/2019 23:31

£25 for acrylic tips here with gel on top.

MeganChips · 20/01/2019 23:37

I think that’s expensive, I never pay more than £20 for Shellac. I usually get mine done on the south coast or the outskirts of London.

I usually get SNS nails in my local salon for £24.

angelikacpickles · 20/01/2019 23:42

@quizqueen u ok hun?

dinkydolphin · 20/01/2019 23:44

I pay £8 in Belfast!! Jesus I wonder if I've been having gel at all. Seems legit to me with the lamp and they last 2 weeks.

Saying that I bought a gel nail kit last night from Amazon because I HATE wasting time sitting in a salon.

dinkydolphin · 20/01/2019 23:46

@quizqueen nails are dead skin cells anyway. The same material as your hair. Dumb ass.

Lovingbenidorm · 20/01/2019 23:49

It obviously depends on where you are, I pay £40

Jenasaurus · 20/01/2019 23:54

I paid £30 in Horsham recently to have mine done, but in another nearby town they are £20 and I couldn't really say one was any different to the other. I was a bit annoyed at the £30 one though as they told me £20 and then charged £30 saying £20 was for acrylic...so not sure really

namechangedforanon · 20/01/2019 23:59

That's the right price.

I wouldn't risk going cheap again - my nails were ruined by what is referred to as a "NSS" - none standard salon

namechangedforanon · 21/01/2019 00:00

Also you can find good offers in London on Treatwell Horseman

Absentwomen · 21/01/2019 00:11

I pay £20 for infills and a change of colour. £25 every three months for a new set.

aconcertpianist · 21/01/2019 00:33

It's important to me that my nails look nice and I usually have Shellac which costs about £20, including taking the old stuff off. The downside is that I'm stuck with the same colour for 18-20 days.

I only have it because a normal polish doesn't last very long, meaning a manicure every week with no guarantee that it would even last a week.

Ideally, I would be able to paint them myself but, despite watching numerous YouTube videos, I just can't get the hang of it. I wish I could. It would save money and I could change the colour as often as I liked.

PregnantSea · 21/01/2019 06:16

I have my own kit now but did pay £26. I didn't get a glass of fizz though, just tea or coffee

LeilaDarling · 21/01/2019 07:03

Shellac is £28 in North London, a lot more than acrylic and gel but better quality and finish and lasts nearly a month.

TheOxymoron · 21/01/2019 08:44

Can I say that some therapists use brands that cost £3.99 a bottle, others use brands that are £18 a bottle.
You get what you pay for.
