Is £32 too expensive...

...for Shellac nails?

I only get them done once a month but I've just noticed the price has gone up from £30 to £32. I know it's only a couple of quid but it's just taken me out of my justifiable price bracket.

I'm fairly low maintenance in other beauty areas. Don't dye my hair, wear fairly inexpensive make up, but love the 'polishedness' of having my nails done.

So if you have your nails done, how much do you pay? And would £32 (with a complementary glass of fizz) be too much for you?

I used to live in a very ‘naice’ town in Herts, was £25. That was 4 years ago though. I now get acrylics with gel polish as Shellac doesn’t last (I’m talking 5 days max without breakage) on my nails. I pay £30 for soak off, removal and new set.

Angelil · 20/01/2019 19:18

Would going down to a 'normal' manicure be a reasonable compromise? Shellac is so bad for your nails so it would do them some good to just go back to normal polish too.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 20/01/2019 19:19

I pay £25 every 2 weeks, this includes take off

Southwest12 · 20/01/2019 19:26

I’m in Liverpool and I was paying £15 for Shellac, including taking off, and any extra glitter/foils. I used to get them done every three weeks.

I’ve moved to acrylics as my nails were wrecked after two years of non stop Shellac and they are £30 for a full set and £20 for an infill.

chaoscategorised · 20/01/2019 19:32

The salon I used to go to it was £36, but it's in a fancy area (I only went there as a family member worked there and did mine for free). But I've bought my own kit now and do them myself, well worth it.

slithytove · 20/01/2019 19:32

Is thst for shellac on your own nails or falsies thrown in? My falsies with shellac cost £30

ScandiGirl10 · 20/01/2019 19:36

I used to pay £35 for removal and gel became a lot to be shelling out every 3-4 weeks so I invested in my own kit. Results are almost as good ☺️

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 20/01/2019 19:36

I would LOVE if I could find a place that did it for £32 plus a glass of bubbles...
I'm in london so it's about £50 for nails and removal someplace decent.

tappitytaptap · 20/01/2019 19:42

Not Shellac but I pay £17 (recently increased from £15) in Sheffield. That is for plain colours and glitter if I want it. No extra charge for soaking off previous set. Lasts 2-3 weeks. I've paid up to £35 before for hand drawn nail art for a wedding, but wouldn't pay that every time.

Lifeofsmiley · 20/01/2019 19:43

Mine are £22

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/01/2019 19:44

i pay £30....no drinkies though!

I get sparkle/glitter/stamps/different colours/accent nails though at no extra if I am having a need for non grown up nails and dibs on any offers she does like summer toes

My nail lady is fab!

XiCi · 20/01/2019 19:46

Is the £32 for hands and feet or just hands? I get Shellac done every 2 weeks with an experienced nail technician and it's £16, no bubbly but a cup of tea Smile. No chance I'd pay £32. The fizz that you are having isn't complimentary, you are paying extra for it!! Have you asked other people local to you what they are paying? I'd check out some other salons. Most salons also have a day when nails are discounted ( mine only charges £12 on a Wed)

MenoMum4 · 20/01/2019 19:48

Angelil - can I ask what you base the opinion that shellac is bad for your nails on?

Sienna9522 · 20/01/2019 19:48

Is that shellac on your normal nails? If so, that is expensive! I get acrylics with gel (shellac). Did pay £27 but the price has been put up to £29. I give a couple of quid tip. There’s about 8 staff and I’ve had them all do my nails, never had a problem. They really take their time and do a beautiful job.

bruffin · 20/01/2019 19:49

£28 for gels or £23 when on offer. This is Herts. Paid £38 once but were very poor compared to my normal place

MorningsEleven · 20/01/2019 19:49

I spend £18 on shellac. I think £32 is a lot.

snowball28 · 20/01/2019 19:50

£22 at my salon

Toughtips · 20/01/2019 19:52

I pay £26 and would probably stop having them at £32

HildaZelda · 20/01/2019 19:53

Majority of salons near me charge between £20-£25. £32 does sound quite expensive. No fizz here though so I think they really have factored in the 'free' fizz at £32.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/01/2019 19:58

£20 here in the 'burbs of Liverpool but you might get a small tepid instant coffee with that if you are lucky

What else would you spend the £2 on?

Inferiorbeing · 20/01/2019 19:59

I say yes- i pay £15 which i'm comfortable at

Neverunderfed · 20/01/2019 20:00

It's between 20 and 25 here.

I bought myself an led lamp and do it myself now.

SellFridges · 20/01/2019 20:05

£32-36 in the City centre here (Brum). One of the nicer salons.

I keep meaning to look closer to home but never have the chance and the place I use in town does online booking so I can fit it in easily.

VioletCharlotte · 20/01/2019 20:08

I don't get my nails done, but if I did I'd rather go to a decent salon and pay a bit more. The people who work in the nail bars are often victims of people traffickers. And the shops are sometimes a cover used to launder money from drugs, prostitution, etc.

Chinks123 · 20/01/2019 20:09

That’s very expensive in my area. Acrylics plus removal is £35 for me, shellac is around £16.
