To ask where you do your food shopping?

I really want to start feeling like I'm getting the most out of my money whenever I go shopping.

Where do you do your shopping? Do you do it at one place or do you go to different places for different things?

From my own experience I feel like Tesco is quite expensive compared to other supermarkets and I always come out feeling like I've hardly gotten anything.

I do go to Aldi (which I love btw) but feel like I can't get everything from there sometimes..

Aldi and Morrisons for anything I can’t get from aldi.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 21/01/2019 12:56

Tesco online. It was Sainsbury's but they stopped stocking a few of the things I regularly got. Before that it was Morrison's but I spend a lot more when I go in person.

twilightcafe · 21/01/2019 12:58

Depends which way the car's pointing, tbh.
Mostly Waitrose, Aldi or Sainsbury's.

My local Morrison's is too depressing.

BlooperReel · 21/01/2019 13:00

Majority from Aldi, certain branded bits we like from Asda, if I need milk, bread during the week I will pop in the co-op on the way home from work.

nottobeconfusedwith · 21/01/2019 13:01

Weekly Ocado delivery and then top up at Sainsbury's or M&S.

icannotremember · 21/01/2019 13:01

Aldi for most things. Top up shops DH generally does through the week for bread etc, local Tesco Metro. Vegan stuff from Sainsbury's across from my work, or sometimes Morrisons. We have a plan to try and buy as much fruit and veg as possible from smaller local shops this year, though.

BlooperReel · 21/01/2019 13:02

When I was on maternity leave and needed to be more frugal and also had more time, I'd get all fruit and veg from the market, meat from our local meat market (10 chicken drumsticks for 2.99, lots of other offers on pork chops etc), then household cleaning stuff from savers and B&M, and everything else from Aldi. I just do not have the luxury of time now I am back at work

LucyInTheSkyy · 21/01/2019 13:06

Lidl & Waitrose for top ups / more niche things that Lidl don't have.

Whyislarryhappy · 21/01/2019 13:08

Dp goes into Iceland and we get a delivery for the month or so. We also go aldi and tesco though. Co-op when we've ran out of milk and the Iceland is closed though!

blueskydays · 21/01/2019 13:09

Usually a mixture of Waitrose, Morrisons and the little Sainsburys down the road. Plus bread from an independent bakery.

I've always shopped based on convenience - so when I lived the other side of the city, I did most of my shopping at Aldi and Tesco. But there's some key products I love that you can only get in certain places - so if I've ran out then I'll make the effort to go there.

And I also like a compact store - for some reason I always find the big Asdas overwhelming! Easily paralysed with choice Grin

Hellohah · 21/01/2019 13:10

I go here there and everywhere haha!
Normally Aldi (and Asda for the stuff I can't get in Aldi).
If I'm short for time I'll do Lidl and Tesco as they're closer.
I tend to buy fruit and veg and fresh stuff as I need it, I pass a fruit/veg stall on my way to/from work and have a Co-op next door to my office, so go in there. It's quite expensive, but if I buy the fresh stuff in my main shop, I just waste it :( ... plus I get 10% off at the Co-op, so that makes it better.

guineapig1 · 21/01/2019 13:18

Large instore shop at Waitrose every 6 weeks or so;
Large online shop at Asda also every 6 weeks or so but staggered with the Waitrose instore so basically a large shop every three weeks.

Top ups are generally at Aldi, Coop and M&S in between. There’s no particular pattern to this - DH or I will pick stuff additional groceries from wherever we are passing/working/hanging about waiting for the DC!

RavenLG · 21/01/2019 13:24

Lidl in person. If I need to do an online shop (pushed for time or DH away and I don't drive) then Morrisons as their delivery drivers are the best and they rarely ever substitute.

RavenLG · 21/01/2019 13:24

Or, a farm shop that is near us which is better for fruit / veg and meat.

Unbelievable18 · 21/01/2019 13:28

Ocado, Lidl, and occasionally Tescos.

Frazzled2207 · 21/01/2019 16:55

Tesco online and pop into Sainsbury's. Probably alternate weekly (ish).

Also go to aldi but get very specific things there.

We also have a Waitrose nearby and I sometimes pop in get some things but it's massively more expensive than the above.

Frazzled2207 · 21/01/2019 16:57

The issue with online is I don't get the meat and other fresh food "bargains" that I buy a lot of when I go into the shop late in the day.
I freeze almost all of it. We have a big deep feeezer though.

RoseMartha · 21/01/2019 17:08

Mainly tesco, top ups usually morrisons or aldi occasionally pop in sainsburys.

HollySwift · 21/01/2019 17:13

Weekly Sainsbury’s delivery, top up bread/milk from one stop or Morrison’s depending on which I’m passing.

Occasionally pop into Aldi and love the stuff, but I can’t be arsed with it tbh and I always end up buying shit I don’t need ‘because it’s cheap.’ LOVE their beauty/make up stuff though.

BabyBlackCat · 21/01/2019 17:15

We normally use Lidl for basics and meat, Asda for branded items and Farmfoods for frozen.

Ncobvs · 21/01/2019 17:46

Tesco for our big shop as there's a massive one really close. Then sainsburys, m and s and Waitrose for top up bits. There's a lidl by my sisters house which I buy granola and ground coffee for work from.
I prefer sainsburys but I find their fruit and veg really pricy.

VanillaSauce · 21/01/2019 17:56

Mostly Lidl because it's our corner shop. Theres also a aldi at the other end of the road but I find it mostly the same as Lidl. We also do a stock up at the local Asian supermarket for spices, rice, oil, ginger, chilli's once a month. And we'll visit a local bulk whole foods to stock up on grains, seeds and cereals. Tea and coffee is ordered online.

JasperKarat · 21/01/2019 17:59

M&S, and Aldi weekly and Tesco or Costco once a month for cleaning products, laundry detergent, nappies, shampoo etc

Booskina · 21/01/2019 18:43

Aldi, couple so we keep costs low around £40-50 a week and top ups from M&S on commute home and if I can’t find particular items and bread as a bit meh in Aldi. I hear Lidl have a great bakery yet to get myself there. I find this works best living in London as allows me to save a little more each month and have a little extra to spend on weekends and treats Grin

Booskina · 21/01/2019 18:45

I have to say since moving out 2 years ago we solely shopped there so seem to find everything bar the bread in Aldi or maybe our palettes have adjusted so much we find 99.9% of what we need there. £40-50 might be expensive to most but we managed to ensure we have 5 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner all cooked from scratch.
