To ask where you do your food shopping?

I really want to start feeling like I'm getting the most out of my money whenever I go shopping.

Where do you do your shopping? Do you do it at one place or do you go to different places for different things?

From my own experience I feel like Tesco is quite expensive compared to other supermarkets and I always come out feeling like I've hardly gotten anything.

I do go to Aldi (which I love btw) but feel like I can't get everything from there sometimes..

Waitrose if I go to the shop or Ocado if i do delivery. Also M&S for fruit & a few other things We like from there.

DollyPomPoms · 20/01/2019 18:09

Aldi mainly. Waitrose, local deli and veg stall for extras.

ClanoftheCaveBear · 20/01/2019 18:10

Aldi with the odd thing from Sainsbury’s that we can’t get in Aldi

Houseonahill · 20/01/2019 18:11

I usually do one big shop at asda a month to get what aldi dont sell/isnt as nice and then one weekly little shop at Aldi

Bakingberry · 20/01/2019 18:15

I've only got Tesco, Waitrose and M&S near me. Try to go to a local green grocers, butcher and fishmonger for top ups when I've got the time.

coffeeforone · 20/01/2019 18:17

Sainsbury's as it's the closest. If Asda was closer I'd go there. Ocado for online shopping.

Catmum26 · 20/01/2019 18:17

food shop we get from aldi and asda. cleaning and washing supplies we get from home bargains.

Squirrelblanket · 20/01/2019 18:17

Mainly Aldi. Although I usually get at least one shop per month delivered by Tesco due to laziness and to stock up on things I can't get in Aldi like the butter we like and Rooibos tea. Top ups mainly Tesco or Sainsbury's as they are nearest my work.

Gth1234 · 20/01/2019 18:19

Anywhere. It was Morrisons this afternoon. They sent me spend £40, get 4000 points.

Fozzleyplum · 20/01/2019 18:25

Aldi or Lidl for all the basics (and Aldi's steak and some of their other British meat) and excellent local farm shops for the rest of the meat, eggs and some vegetables. We also buy some of our milk from a local farm, which has a raw milk vending machine. I see little point in Tesco/Sainsburys etc these days, when Aldi and Lidl are so much better value.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 20/01/2019 18:29

Morrisons because it's big enough I can get everything but not so big I come home with loads of extra crap I don't need but convince myself I do

TurquoiseDress · 20/01/2019 18:31

Usually a mixture of Lidl, Waitrose & Sainsbury's

I don't particularly like Sainsbury's but there is one close by- I feel it's quite pricey and the reduced stuff is all barely 50p off on things that need to be sold same day

Lidl can be great value but I cannot bear the queues esp with baby and small child

Have started doing more online shopping- mainly Tesco and sometimes Waitrose if feeling rich ha

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/01/2019 18:31

I am trying to cut back on plastics and go local. So we get a large organic box delivered. Try to support the local butcher and farm shop. Local Tesco for top ups but it’s crap

PinkGin24 · 20/01/2019 18:31

Literally a mix of everywhere haha.

Most meat and fish is now from Aldi, as is staple stuff.

Specific bits you can't buy in Aldi (lentils, capers, fajhita seasoning etc.) we buy in Sainsburys along with all spirits.

And then specific stuff we love from Waitrose and M and S.

chxm19 · 20/01/2019 18:31

Thanks all for your replies.

Do people find they spend less if they do an online shop?

Nacreous · 20/01/2019 18:34

Mainly Asda, as they will do devlieries with a £25 minimum spend and quite a lot of £1 delivery slots, and frankly I just can't be bothered with supermarket shopping. I can't park outside my house and the trek to and from the car is a real faff.

pontiouspilates · 20/01/2019 18:35

Waitrose with odds and ends from Aldi.

Taxidrive · 20/01/2019 18:36

I use Aldi and Asda. I find I get more for my money in Aldi and quality is good. What has helped me save is meal planning and cooking everything from scratch.

mycatplotsdeath · 20/01/2019 18:37

Tesco online
I find it cheaper to shop on line

Justanothernamechange2 · 20/01/2019 18:41

I think it depends who you are and what you buy. Weve tried many and Tesco is cheapest for us (even cheaper than aldi and lidl) for what we buy. I tend to use Wilko for cleaning products and toiletries though.

hazeydays14 · 20/01/2019 18:42

Mainly Lidl and Tesco

I’ll go to home bargains/B&Ms if I want specific cleaning products or their washing stuff is reduced.

I definitely spend less on an online shop than in store because you aren’t so easily distracted by yellow labels Grin

Theonewiththecat · 20/01/2019 18:43

Mainly Sainsburys, the odd bit of asda, Morrisons and booths.

PickAChew · 20/01/2019 18:46

Mostly sainsburys and markses with top ups from waitrose and coop and, if I'm there, the markets and greengrocers in the city centre.

NigelsBird · 20/01/2019 18:48

I get almost all my milk from the corner shop, bread from the bakers on the other corner, and fruit and veg from our lovely local market (just a traditional town market, not a farmers market or anything fancy). Don't eat meat. Storecupboard essentials come from Sainsbury's usually - I do a big shop instore or online once or twice a month. Plus a weekly or twice-weekly top up (for essentials we've run out of, it special ingredients) in the Waitrose which I pass on my way home from work.

Badbadbunny · 20/01/2019 18:51

I do a combination of most of them over the month. Sainsbury, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, B&M and Home Bargains. I buy whatever each has on offer as I make sure I don't run out of anything and never "need" to buy anything at all other than the staples of bread, milk, fresh meat, fresh fruit & veg from the main ones where I go once every 4 weeks (different one each week). I do either B&M and HB weekly.
