To ask where you do your food shopping?

I really want to start feeling like I'm getting the most out of my money whenever I go shopping.

Where do you do your shopping? Do you do it at one place or do you go to different places for different things?

From my own experience I feel like Tesco is quite expensive compared to other supermarkets and I always come out feeling like I've hardly gotten anything.

I do go to Aldi (which I love btw) but feel like I can't get everything from there sometimes..

Lidl for most stuff. Then Sainsbury's (closest supermarket) for things that Lidl don't sell.

ginghamstarfish · 20/01/2019 20:05

Tesco online every 2 or 3 weeks, lidl once a week, fruit and veg from greengrocers, odd bits from sainsburys (my nearest supermarket but too expensive)

Notcontent · 20/01/2019 20:09

Ocado and Lidl. Small to ups from local Waitrose. Lidl is great for basics but there are lots of things I can’t get there.

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2019 20:10

Lidl, I also just started doing subscribe and save with amazon for washing powder, coffee, cat food etc. All brands I’m particular about but Lidl don’t sell.

KimchiLaLa · 20/01/2019 20:14

Just switched from getting our big food order to Tesco from asda. Also have to do top ups in Morrisons/marks/whatever is near work weekly.

onlyhereforthefood · 20/01/2019 20:15

We shop online, varying which supermarket (all of them deliver here) depending on what's on offer/what discounts we have been sent.

Top up in local Waitrose or Tesco.

Fresh fruit/veg etc from local greengrocer

DarwinLoves · 20/01/2019 20:18

I buy my groceries and fruit and veg from Aldi but get my milk delivered and meat from the butcher.

I feel I get good value and I feel like ALDI has really improved over the 10 years I've been going. I used to struggle to get everything I needed but they've really expanded their range and the quality is good.

JacketPotatoQueen · 20/01/2019 20:24

I try to go to Lidl / Aldi every other week, and use a Tesco delivery shop in the alternate weeks. I find I can’t get all the things I need in Lidl/Aldi, so use the Tesco shop to plug the gaps.

Can anyone recommend any good washing powders from Lidl / Aldi? I haven’t tried any of their own brand washing powders but would like to try.

ethelfleda · 20/01/2019 20:28

Mainly ASDA
Sometimes Morrison’s

It depends on what I’m cooking - mainly home cooked food and I don’t tend to find much difference between veg at different supermarkets. I think the more processed a food is, the better off you are getting it from a decent supermarket.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 20/01/2019 20:30

Aldi and Waitrose.
I wish we had a big Aldi ours is a medium Sad

hidinginthenightgarden · 20/01/2019 20:31

Waitrose and Ocado. Sainsburys sometimes but have been really disappointed with the quality of their food recently.
I always use vouchers for "first customers". Change your email address and you are a new customer! Ocado crack on after a bit but the others don't.

chxm19 · 20/01/2019 20:47

Thanks everyone!

I'm wanting to do a Morrison's shop, do they offer any vouchers?

Kemer2018 · 20/01/2019 20:57

Aldi or Lidl.
For things like generic marmite, sainsbos or asda.
Oh likes tesco rolls though.

bugaboo218 · 20/01/2019 21:38

I used to go all over the place, but found I ended up spending more traipsing around different supermarkets.

I shop in Sainsbury's. Meat from local butcher and top up for bread and milk in Sainsbury's local or the Co_op.

BakerBear · 20/01/2019 21:40

90% in M&S and then 10% in Asda

Biffsboys · 20/01/2019 21:42

Tesco , because it’s right beside the school .
M&S if I have the choice and money

mrsm43s · 20/01/2019 21:44

Morrisons is my day to day go-to, with occasional Aldi visits to top up on some of the stuff that's really good value there, plus occasionally treats from Waitrose.

Asda is generally cheap and OKish, but we don't have one particularly close by.
Tesco and Sainsburys I find expensive for no uplift in quality.
Waitrose is expensive, but generally better quality, and some stuff (e.g. lumpfish caviar and Norwegian brown cheese) that I can't get anywhere else.
I prefer Aldi to Lidl, but I think that generally depends on the standard of your local store.
M&S is expensive and seems more geared towards pre-prepared rather than everyday family essentials.
Rarely use Iceland as its selection is quite limited, and I'm not big on beige food.

RoboticSealpup · 20/01/2019 21:47

I love Lidl. But there are some things they don't have, like the Pure baby wipes and Pampers nappies, so sometimes we go to Tesco to bulk buy.

Nanalisa60 · 20/01/2019 21:48

Aldi & Lidl got two very nice new ones near me!! Asda only very occasionally and M&S for some special treats only occasionally. Buy Free range eggs form a friend. I really like Aldi & Lidl

Megan2018 · 20/01/2019 21:49

One Ocado delivery a week then top ups usually at Tesco. We work long hours and commute so time is more valuable at the mo.
I love Aldi and Lidl but can only get there occasionally. I’d like to go there more but it would take a good 2hrs out of an already busy week (we live rurally) So currently only go if off work.
I find online easier for budgeting though, in store I buy all sorts we don’t need.

percypeppers · 20/01/2019 21:50

Ocado and Waitrose but sometimes LIDL, ALDI, Tesco, Sainsburys....

Part of it is convenience and part of it is that I just prefer Waitrose. I prefer the shopping experience and pretty much every own brand product is excellent.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/01/2019 21:53

Waitrose- my nearest to walk to. Other than the odd shop that I know will knock me over, I don't find it too bad for what I want. I do the odd random grab in the really mini Tesco nearby eg milk or bread. I used to use the further away ASDA when I had my car with me, and it wasn't too different on price - and I usually ended up buying some things in Waitrose anyway. Buy my cleaning stuff in Savers or Wilko.

NutElla5x · 21/01/2019 06:38

All depends what I need but generally I do a big online Tesco or Asda shop every two or three weeks and a smaller iceland/Aldi/Lidl shop two or three times a month. Very occasionally I'll ring the changes and get a bit from Morrisons and Sainsburys, never shop at M&S or Waitrose though,I'm too poor for that Blush

Daffodildainty · 21/01/2019 10:05

Costco for meet and seafood - (amazing price and quality) Tesco, Waitrose, Aldi or Sainsbury for staples, fruit and veg. Mostly Tesco as it’s closest.

Daffodildainty · 21/01/2019 10:06

Meat not meet - duh!
