I'm fascinated with true crime and was having a conversation with my Grandad once. He told me that one of his brothers mates was friends with peter sutcliffe, and that he had met him a couple of times.

Interested to know if others have have had encounters or known a serial killer

About 6/7 years ago when i was living in a different town, we had these neighbours about our age and with 3 young girls, 2 of whom were primary age and went to school with my daughter (one was in same class) the girls got on very well, played together all the time, i had even been in their house and had tea with them, the husband had his own business (independent grocery shop in a diff town to where we lived) and often sent my daughter back with fruit when she had been playing at their house

One morning i was looking out of the front room window and saw a few police cars and coppers standing around and some were going in and out the house bringing stuff out and were dressed in those white forensic suits, about a week later i was in a shop buying a local paper to look for jobs when I noticed the husbands face staring back at me from the front page, turns out he had been arrested for the murder of one of his customers, an elderly lady and she had been found in one of his stockroom freezers ☹️

2018, happen to be now living in the same town as where the shop from the first story is (tho shop now something else now) new guy starts at my place of work, very popular, as a very friendly polite, helpful and funny guy, rather good looking too so all the single girls his age were happy to have something nice to look at

after a few months tho he left for a different job, bout 2 months after he left he was also on the front page of a local newspaper for killing 2 of his neighbours, an elderly woman and her daughter, all over a parking issue, he barged in their house and stabbed them to death 😧

I used to walk past the crossbow cannibal regularly on my lunch break. Occasionally we’d nod. I got a right shock when I saw the video on the news (and I never nod at strangers any more!)

When I was about 5 or 6, a family friend started a relationship a lady who had a young son around my age. They came on camping holidays with us, and from what I remember he was nice and normal. They were together for a few years but split amicably before the son was in his teens. A couple of years ago my mum spotted the son in the news...for killing his mum Sad

haverhill · 20/01/2019 14:59

I’ve just remembered: an ex-boyfriend’s friend was taken in for questioning during the Yorkshire Ripper investigation. They were at Leeds Uni whole is was happening, and his friend looked like a younger version of Sutcliffe.

haverhill · 20/01/2019 15:00

while it

silvercuckoo · 20/01/2019 15:00

Several years ago, I took an art class with a lady who taught two future terrorists at the primary school level. Different classes, different years and even different schools. Remembers them as very quiet and good natured children.

Jennywren2978 · 20/01/2019 15:01

I went to school with a girl who killed her parents in cold blood by stabbing them both multiple times. Showed no remorse from what I've been told and will never be released from prison. I did always think she was a bit of a cold hearted person. She gave off that vibe.

Ethel80 · 20/01/2019 15:09

I've had contact with/known three murderers. Two as a child and one as an adult when I briefly shared a house with him.

I really can't be more specific as it would be very outing but all three were very brutal and upsetting cases and one of them was very well known.

Hortuslover · 20/01/2019 15:10

Someone a good few years ago had their head blown off with a shotgun. I knew the victim and murderer. Murderer is now free.

I went to school with someone who killed her child. Also now free, see her quite often.

Very recently, someone has been murdered in our town. Didn’t know the victim but knew of the killer, very dangerous man.

Oldbutstillgotit · 20/01/2019 15:21

@moonflower 12
No, the crime took place in Scotland. What was awful was the way the locals seemed feel the killings were justified .

SlowNorris · 20/01/2019 15:24

Yes I have but that’s all I want to say about it!

Great contribution Hmm

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 20/01/2019 15:37

To PP who said they knew Robert Thompson - are you definitely sure because he has been living with a male partner for a long time!

While I was at uni I worked on the bank worked for Manchester social services, supporting troubled kids. Practically every person I met has worked with Thompson or Venables! I imagine 10% was real encounters and 90% jumping on the bandwagon bollocks.

bumblenbean · 20/01/2019 15:39

My dad was a psychiatrist and during his training he interviewed Peter Sutcliffe in prison.

Thankfully no closer links! Some of these are really creepy.

To the PP whose dad worked with Fred west - what was he like?! I’ve always wondered what he had about him that allowed him to charm people the way he (apparently) did.

NewNameForThis1234 · 20/01/2019 15:42

Had to name change for this. I grew up in St. Catharine's in southern Ontario, Canada. From the time I was 5 until 10, I had a babysitter who would get my brother and I off the bus twice a week and stay with us for an hour or so until my mom came home from work. She would also babysit on a Saturday evening once or twice a month when my parents were out.

My parents eventually told her they would find another babysitter because she became increasingly unreliable and would cancel at the last minute. She also started having her boyfriend over when she was supposed to be babysitting.

Her name was Karla Homolka and her boyfriend was Paul Bernardo. The two of them killed 3 people, including two school-aged girls in the early 1990s. My mom was a wreck when she heard the news.

Groovee · 20/01/2019 15:47

@NewNameForThis1234 I watched voice of a serial killer last night on that woman.

Hamandcrispsandwich · 20/01/2019 15:47

I went to school with two people who murdered people.
One burgled a home and beat the homeowner to death.
The other broke into a home and shot the husband and wife.

A woman who used to live a few doors down from me conspired a plan with others to kill her ex boyfriend. He suffered life changing injuries.

My friends husband/ his family are murderers. He/his family murdered my friend. He has siblings who's partners have also died in similar circumstances.

newnameforthis1234 · 20/01/2019 15:52

@Groovee I've never heard of that show. I don't tend to watch or read anything about either of them. It creeps me out too much.

JustAmie35 · 20/01/2019 15:54

Yes, not really famous but we didn’t know and lived with him for a while. He murdered a young woman and was linked via dna.

DratThatCat · 20/01/2019 15:59

gently scented and gateto I knew it was him just by looking at him, he looked exactly like his mugshot, just a bit older. This must have been about 13 years ago. Maybe the girlfriend was just a girl friend then, or maybe it was before he met his boyfriend? It was definitely him.

Also, his risk assessment had everything flagged as high risk but absolutely no detail, which is highly unusual.

Hoppinggreen · 20/01/2019 15:59

I knew Harold Shipman professionally
I worked with many GP’s, some very interested in the welfare of their patients and others seemingly not as much. Some of their attitudes were quite shocking in fact.
I would have said that he was one of the good ones. I met his wife a few times and she was certainly odd but I actually liked him and thought he was an excellent Doctor

UtterlyDesperate · 20/01/2019 15:59

Two of my neighbours have been murdered - one a childhood neighbour, who murdered his wife, the other a few years ago at the opposite end of the country. Both dull, timid little men with quite dynamic and engaging wives. Don't live next door to me Grin

And the Head of House when I went to secondary school subsequently murdered her parents. Got a boyfriend, ended up murdering them together, in the hopes of inheritance iirc. The thing that does stick in my mind is that they danced in her parents blood and allegedly used it to draw Satanic symbols on the walls. Sad

JAMMFYesPlease · 20/01/2019 16:01

A friend of my mum's lived on the same street as Peter Sutcliffe.

Not a killer but a convicted paedophile. My vicar as a kid.

Jenasaurus · 20/01/2019 16:08

Not a serial killer as such but a colleague of mine told me he did time in her majesty’s with Peter Sutcliffe

Jenasaurus · 20/01/2019 16:11

Also my sons friend recently went to a house to produce a music video for one of the Krays gang. He said it was like stepping back in time.
