Prince Philip back on the road

I'm annoyed to read that he allegedly has a brand new Range Rover bad is back on public roads without a seatbelt today.

With elderly parents I know it's difficult but he's being a fool. OP post edited by MNHQ

I thought he was pulling out from a private road.

Nope, from a B road.

MrsDrudge · 20/01/2019 15:18

Just because he can read a number plate doesn’t mean he is competent to drive.
He comes across as ignorant, arrogant and as someone who couldn’t give a toss about anyone else.

To be fair, these are not traits that just came upon him on reaching old age.
He's always been an arrogant toss-pot.

Happydowninthemouth · 20/01/2019 15:41

I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation

Bluelady · 20/01/2019 15:43

And reading a number plate is the standard sight test.

There's been such a brouhaha about this I doubt he'll be allowed to find the car keys again if public roads are involved.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:03

I dove past the accident about 3:20pm. I can vouch for the low sun. And YES its horrible to drive into ! even with the sun visor right down.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:04

I didn`t realise who the accident was involving as I drove past....till later!

MissEliza · 20/01/2019 16:09

The standard combo face routine. I noticed she's doing the talking and her friend hasn't even been named. I don't know if that's because she doesn't want the friend to be pestered by the media or because the friend has asked her not to. To say she knows the speed her friend was driving at is quite hard to believe. She must have been going pretty fast to cause a Land Rover to topple over. The D of E can't have being going that fast as he'd just turned into the road.

MissEliza · 20/01/2019 16:09

Compo face! Not combo face.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:12

He was pulling out from a B road , awful junction to pull out of and there was a fair bit of traffic . Its a 60 limit. There was low bright sun. Didn`t really see much as i drove past as I was driving myself. Policeman sweeping glass, coning off the opposite side of the road.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:14

Public roads run through the estate (it covers a bit of an area!). Id be hazarding a guess maybe he was heading home to Wolferton ? Wood farms there (their bolthole). Thats common knowlege, no secret.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:54

Ive just read the DM article with her saying it was overcast. She was driving west towards Kings lynn. Same direction as me . It was not overcast. Low sun as other witnesses have said.... Shes telling a porkie there! It was low sun even before then when i was local to that area. And why would the Queen phone her? It would always have been the family liasion officer in communication between the 2 parties, who ever it was.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 16:59

Im not trying to defend D of E. I do think he shouldnt be driving at his age. But I`m saying as a local who was on that road within 20- 30 mins how it was and how much of an arse it is to join the A149 there. Add on pheasants playing chicken with the cars (there are a lot) and the muntjack deer frequently hit along there ........

MissSusanScreams · 20/01/2019 17:00

@MissEliza

That’s what I’ve been saying. Her details don’t add up. She’s silly because once the tabloids are done with her she’ll face a backlash.

Again, why stress what speed her friend was driving. No one had mentioned it until she brought it up. Odd.

Bluelady · 20/01/2019 17:03

I don't believe a word she's said. She's lied about the weather so she'll lie about anything. The car she was in must have been doing a fair old lick to overturn a Freelander.

Craft1905 · 20/01/2019 17:11

The car she was in must have been doing a fair old lick to overturn a Freelander.

I assume you have some advanced qualifications in accident investigation, alongside a PHD in physics, specialising in the effects of kinetic energy, to have posted that. And you're not just some random internet idiot who says stuff without really knowing what the hell they are talking about.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 17:12

was she hoping for tea with the queen or something?? She has lied about the weather and shes so sure about the speed eh? If i remember rightly that junction its a pain to pull out of because looking right theres a brow of a hill (well slope really). If she was doing 50 hed have seen her. But people going 60 + appear quite suddenly (you don`t hang about pulling out onto the road there for that reason). I smell a rat. I think it was probably blame on both sides.

Bluelady · 20/01/2019 17:18

@Craft1905, I've lived long enough to know a car has to be hit pretty hard to overturn it. Common sense and life experience.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 17:24

that time of day did either of them have their lights on? with the trees its quite dull there, both cars that would blend in maybe? if shes not driving was the sun in her line of sight? often Ive got my visor right down (and even then its quite hard to dodge the sun in your eyes ). But ds (I was doing the school run as I do) doesn`t because its not affecting him.

samphirelaydee · 20/01/2019 17:28

Its a accident blackspot area, hence why the councils been ooming about making it 50 for a while. Too many cars doing way more than 60!!

Craft1905 · 20/01/2019 17:28

@Craft1905, I've lived long enough to know a car has to be hit pretty hard to overturn it. Common sense and life experience.

You are wrong. It depends on many factors. A tall car is easier to overturn, as it has a high centre of gravity, and the Freelander is tall. A car turning right is easier to overturn if hit from the right. A car pulling from a side road could be overturned if hit at 20 mph if the impact angle is right, or might not overturn if hit at 100mph.

The dynamics of road accidents is very complicated.

MaisyPops · 20/01/2019 17:32

MissSusanScreams
The passenger is a chancer who fancies her chances. Everyone else involved is busy handling it how it should be.

Still there is a part of me that saw the article on 'angry people in local newspapers' on Facebook and thought 'well dont you look like the typical compo face type'. A bit mean I know, but when there's a Facebook page dedicated to people being angry in the press it's hard not to spot the prize compo faces.

delboysskinandblister · 20/01/2019 17:32

He failed to 'give way' at a junction. It's his driving that's at fault not his age.

MissSusanScreams · 20/01/2019 17:34

Here’s some physics for you @Craft1905

A car is travelling 50mph on a dry road and sees a car pulling out 150 yards away (according to the passenger). Does it have time to stop?

Bluelady · 20/01/2019 17:35

So @Craft1905, you have the qualifications you mention above, do you? Or are you just a rude internet know all?
