AIBU to ask why on earth is the Duke of Edinburgh driving at the age of 97.

OP posts:

A royal not rock!

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 10:33

I don't give a stuff about him being a member of the Royal family. None of us were there when this accident happened. The police are collecting evidence and when they've done that, they will decide how to proceed. It's the lynch mob that are blinkered, not me. The lynch mob that has acted as judge and jury, based purely on a load of speculation, prejudice against the Royal family and judgement on a man's driving on account of his age.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 23/01/2019 10:34

You can indeed, but if you're a multimillionaire you can also get someone to drive you round for a couple of days rather than give best driving practice a big fat "fuck you".

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/01/2019 10:37

Funnily enough, there’s another thread on here at the moment where OP freely admits to pulling out of a side road and almost being hit by another car as she can’t see well enough out of the big new family car. Not a word of reproach but lots of soothing sympathetic replies. 🙄. I can’t see the difference myself.

Charlie97 · 23/01/2019 10:37

@Bluelady and you've been doing the same, but it's ok for YOU to speculate but not others? Hmmm

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 10:38

I don't know if he has committed a criminal offence. But I also don't think he will be treated by the police like any other elderly driver who has had an accident.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 23/01/2019 10:38

post a link here and I'll be rude about her driving on that one as well then Wink

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 10:39

Alexa If I was on that thread I would not have been soothing. Bloody dangerous.
But you do know different threads often have different people on them? And that we are all individuals with our own views?

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 23/01/2019 10:41

Here's some proper anti-royal sentiment for you: of course he wouldn't even have a massive landed estate to drive around on legally without a seatbelt if his wife's ancestors hadn't nicked it all...

😂😂😂

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/01/2019 10:45

But you do know different threads often have different people on them?

MaryMarkle. Yes I have managed to work that out thank you very much. 🙄

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 10:47

Alexa Then maybe consider it when there are different responses on different threads.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/01/2019 10:57

Alexa Then maybe consider it when there are different responses on different threads.

Do you have to work at being patronising or does it come naturally?

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 11:00

Alexa You started it. Telling us that we were being anti royal because we hadn't criticised a woman on another thread.

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 11:01

@charlie97, perhaps you'd like to point us in the direction of my speculation?

Charlie97 · 23/01/2019 11:14

@Bluelady about the seat belt and medical reasons for not wearing it, about the palace keeping quiet until it all blows over.

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 11:18

I said you CAN get medical exemption from wearing a seatbelt which is a fact, not that he had. I know how media handling works, I did it all my working life. Neither of those things are speculative. 1/10 for effort, must try harder.

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 11:23

So he might have been driving illegally when not wearing a seatbelt.

Charlie97 · 23/01/2019 11:29

@Bluelady you KNOW nothing, you're basing it on what you think would happen, you do not know that.

You know nothing, not even the make of the car.

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 11:29

Yes and he might not. We don't know. It's all speculation.

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 11:31

Exactly what I said. NONE of us know what happened. It was. Freelander, by the way.

Charlie97 · 23/01/2019 11:32

said you CAN get medical exemption from wearing a seatbelt which is a fact, not that he had. I know how media handling works, I did it all my working life. Neither of those things are speculative

But they are....

Bluelady · 23/01/2019 11:33

No, they're not. Try finding out what speculation actually means.

marymarkle · 23/01/2019 11:34

But we do know the police spoke to Prince Philip about driving without a seatbelt. That is fact.
We do know that he pulled out into a road and had a major crash.
We do know that he is 97 and that few 97 year olds are capable of driving safely.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 23/01/2019 12:03

To speculate. Irregular verb conjugated thus: I am drawing on long experience, you are speculating, he / she / it is talking bollocks.
