Army is stockpiling now

littlebillie · 27/01/2019 19:59

It's on sky news

littlebillie · 27/01/2019 20:07

I assumed it's an over prep just in case

I've been to different supermarkets over the last few days & stocked up.

Now have 34 toilet rolls!
5 boxes of tampons
3 packs of pads (also have reusables)
3 tubes of toothpaste
4 deoderants

About 20 tins of fruit
Lots of tinned carrots, sweetcorn, potatoes, tomatoes, beans (baked, butter & kidney)
Cake mixes
Bread mixes
Jelly mixes

Chocolate spread
Peanut butter
Jam
Marmite

Pasta shapes
Noodles
Rice
Instant mash

Biscuits
Sweets
Crisps

I've sort of organised the stash into 4 boxes with some of everything (apart from toiletries) so we've got something different every few days/week.

So treat wise, one box has orange juice, choc spread, jelly beans, cake mix & pringles.

Next box has apple juice, jam, popcorn, jelly mix & biscuits etc

Also bought some mozzerella that I've frozen as pizza is a favourite with my dc so have ingredients to make some if we can't buy ready made.

Feel like I'm getting there but need to stock up on cat & dog food. Shame it's so bulky - hmm where can I hide it?

I have a suspicion that lots of mumsnetters are going to be sleeping in newly elevated high sleeper beds that have been propped up on their stashes.

Petalflowers · 31/01/2019 11:44

A mumsnetter’s bed!!

That's the idea @Petalflowers . Grin

I got some more bits today, vegetable oil, suma sausage mix, jar of sundried tomatoes & another of artichoke hearts.

Also got a pizza oven tray as I've bought some dried pizza base mixes & my trays are all a bit narrow.

Going to B&M tomorrow to get coconut milk & curry powder.

Will be doing a stock take soon to see what I've missed.

Wish I had a pantry to be able to see at a glance what I've got but no such luck at the moment so it's all in tubs on top of the kitchen wall units.

Note to self: Stop looking at prepper pantry images on google Grin

I have a bed like that and it’s full of food underneath. DP calls it my ‘brexit bunker’. I also have 2 freezers full of butter, cheese, milk, fruit, veg and meat. Best case scenario I won’t have to shop for months!

WellBHouse · 06/02/2019 08:53

Amazon was having a sale yesterday on dehydrators!

BrendasUmbrella · 05/03/2019 12:59

It is looking likely that there will be a delay, right? We're not just going to plunge off a cliff at the end of March?

I stocked up on all our favourites and staples and I think we'd be able to eat comfortably for over a month without leaving the house. It feels odd when I was Kondo-ing like crazy last year, but at least it meant I know exactly how much I have of everything. And I like knowing we are covered in case of illness/money problems. We live at the other end of the country from our families so no-one's going to bail us out if we get into trouble. And if everything is resolved without causing food issues or pushing prices way up, I'll ease off on stocking up and donate to the food bank.

This whole thing has made me see the value in fresh food and having easy access to it. I'm eating more fruit and veg than I ever have. I'm insisting the DCs and DP eat more too, because if the worst scenario happens I don't want them to be as healthy as possible. (And if best scenario happens I still want the same, so win win.) And I'm getting the cat used to eating dry food because it's easier to store, and better for her teeth. She's not happy...

BrendasUmbrella · 05/03/2019 13:00

*I DO want them to be as healthy as possible Grin

Does anyone else think that this is the Millennium Bug all over again? Much ado about nothing?
I did realise recently that I have three black pepper pots in the cupboard, does that count as panic buying?

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 13:53

And we have a Millenium bug post! Bingo!

Seriously, have you not read any other info on this. Do you think that the months of time effort and money spent on making sure the millennium bug wasn't a problem is anything like this shitshow?

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 13:56

And panic buying isn't the same as getting extra stuff in slowly over several months or even weeks.
Panic buying is when you realise at the last minute that the Brexit fairies aren't coming and you have to take care of yourself.

thebabysmellsofpooagain · 05/03/2019 13:59

No, we're not panic buying

No, it's not us that will cause the problem if/when the shtf

No, it's not the millennium bug all over again

No, I'm not sharing with you because you didn't have the good sense to put a little by each week in case of emergencies
