Hi, I posted on the last thread but didn't realise there was a second thread now!

I have now got a plastic crate in my bedroom with some tins and packets of food, and a list of things to buy later on like longlife milk and nappies (still holding out hope that I might be able to potty train my toddler before brexit day Grin).

My biggest worry is medicine, I take asthma meds. Can anyone tell me whether I need to worry about supply of these?

bellinisurge · 20/01/2019 09:39

I think you need to chat to your GP about asthma meds. They will best know your local situation. The chances are that it won't be a problem but your gp can reassure you on that or explain the best approach that suits you.
My dh has mild asthma. Other than trying to ensure we have a current brown and blue inhaler, that is what we are doing.

wildchild554 · 20/01/2019 09:58

@BobDobbs You should always have spare ventolin regardless, when I'm really ill can go through 1 in 2 1/2 days. They now give me 2 at a time and I always make sure I have 3 back ups as well as one I'm using. They have a 2 year shelf life. There has been times when no one had any round here and had to wait a couple days to fill a prescription. Also the inhaler can fail. The pharmacist can change it for you but only if they have them.

wildchild554 · 20/01/2019 10:00

@BobDobbs Do you have a spacer and peak flow meter for when your ill?

wildchild554 · 20/01/2019 10:04

@BobDobbs I learnt my lessons the hard way unfortunately and is a scary situation to be in

Whisky2014 · 20/01/2019 10:38

@bobdodds I used to work at the site where salbutamol sulphate is made. I am 99.9999% sure you will not be affected by supplies from this.

No one really knows. You should talk to your GP but as others have said all asthmatics should have at least one spare ventolin inhaler for emergencies on top of whatever medication they use regularly.

What a mess, people shouldn't have to worry about this. Let's hope Corbyn supports the latest Grieve amendment.

BadlyAgedMemes · 20/01/2019 11:59

My blue inhaler's just been taken off the monthly renewal and put down as an annual renewal, which seems strange and unhelpful... Hmm

wildchild554 · 20/01/2019 12:22

@BadlyAgedMemes speak to your gp, could be an error, one of mine was reduced in strength on my repeat but was an error

BobDobbs · 20/01/2019 13:11

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a peak flow meter but I do have a spacer. My asthma is usually quite mild and well managed, but it has flared up because I have a cold. I don't know what would happen if I didn't have any inhalers, which has made me think about stocking up on some inhalers in case of the worst.

I am really thankful that neither of my children seems to have inherited my rubbish lungs.

wildchild554 · 20/01/2019 13:28

@BobDobbs mine is usually mild too only have issues when I'm ill or allergies flare it up, you can request a peak flow meter from your gp, only found out recently that asthmatics are supposed to have one to keep an eye on when your asthma flares up so you know how bad it is at the time.

BobDobbs · 20/01/2019 13:34

@wildchild554 I didn't know that, I will ask about one next time I see the doctor

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2019 19:28

So how many toilet rolls do I need for 3 months???! It's me DH and a 4 year old. No I do not want to do one of those calculations. Just want a rough guesstimate!

Food will be prioritised. Bog roll won't.

cloudtree · 21/01/2019 19:31

average person apparently uses 110 a year. so roughly two a week.

So 6 a week x 12 weeks - 72

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2019 19:36

Two a week for the average person? That's 4 a week for two adults!!! 6 a week for the three of us?!! Na. We are no where near that. What the fuck is the age person doing when they go to the toilet to use that much??!!

I'll never manage to get 72 in the house without DH saying something.

cloudtree · 21/01/2019 19:44

That stat was in the press last week. Perhaps its for those who are at home all day?

cloudtree · 21/01/2019 19:45

Maybe go for four a week

So 48 - home bargains do 18 rolls for £4.49 3 packs and you're sorted.

TheElementsSong · 21/01/2019 20:36

Just poo at work Grin

BadlyAgedMemes · 21/01/2019 20:39

Two a week for the average person? That's 4 a week for two adults!!!

That's about right for us. I pee a lot. Blush It's also what we use for tissue around the house. DH sneezes a lot. I'm not planning on buying hundreds of the bastards, though...

DogInATent · 21/01/2019 20:55

Bookers have a BOGOF on bog roll at the moment.

phlebasconsidered · 21/01/2019 21:01

I am concerned about my medication. My version of it comes from Germany because it's cheaper. If the price goes up i think they'll ask me to either do without or revert to the generic that didn't work. My GP only lets me get a month at a time despite it being lifelong medication so I cannot stock up.

BobDobbs · 21/01/2019 21:10

I ordered blue inhalers today, I'm going to order a spare preventer one next month, thanks all!

red We go through about 4 toilet rolls a week, between three of us (2 females, 1 male).

Purplejay · 21/01/2019 21:43

For loo rolls order a box of 36 eco friendly ones from ‘Who gives a crap’. I have a box scheduled mid Feb so that will keep us going for 3 months or so.

KatyMac · 21/01/2019 21:44

The pharmacist rang to say DH was taking too much ventolin - I mean a 66 yo chronic asthmatic with Bronchietasis wouldn't need to take much ventolin really.....would he?

He is supposed to take 2 morning and night and 2 on exercise which doesn't sound much until you add the 'at least 2 hrs a hour vigourous exercise every day' as physio therapy to keep his chest clear then it looks very like a ventolin a month - assuming he doesn't have a cold, get exposed to cigarette smoke or paint fumes

They are rationing it already

Petalflowers · 21/01/2019 22:45

Re toilet rolls, I go on the basis of one toilet roll per person per week, so three months would be approx. 36 toilet rolls.
