With a nick name of albie?
My friend is horrified and thinks I am very Unreasonable.
I think it’s adorable.

Brutal opinions please?

I really don’t like it

Albie is probably worse than Albert

Readysteadygoat · 15/01/2019 11:30

I love it but then I have a Stanley. One of my friends just had an Albie, not sure if it's shortened

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/01/2019 11:32

Albert

Just No.

cOOLINGgel · 15/01/2019 11:40

Readysteadygoat was the baby born in August?
I know of one baby born in Aug whose name is Albie, just this, not shortened.

Helendee · 15/01/2019 12:21

Love it. Both of my granddads were Alberts.
Better than Jayden any day!

flameycakes · 15/01/2019 12:21

I love it x

Confusedbeetle · 15/01/2019 12:23

Never tell people the names you are considering. Someone will always hate it. Just tell them when the baby is named. Soon the name will be associated with that child and they will all get over it

Namesnamesnamess · 15/01/2019 13:04

That’s probably very wise confused! Thank you!
Some love it some hate it some are indifferent probably exactly what you’d get across the board in the general population for every name. So it’s not incredibly unusual. But we are still no further forward.
Will keep thinking thank you all who responded.
Oh to the poster who asked, my friend has a little girl so well used to the common toddler names. I think Albert and derivatives are just less common round here.

Names I’ve seen threads on my ds name

MarshaBradyo · 15/01/2019 13:07

And it’s not all favourable at all

OutPinked · 15/01/2019 13:10

A family friend named her four DD’s after colours then had a DS last and surprised us all by randomly naming him Albert Grin.

I quite like it but many people can’t get past the Prince Albert reference.

Namesnamesnamess · 15/01/2019 13:12

People are brutal aren’t they Marsha. I’m sure your sons name is lovely.
But I have asked for honest opinions on Aibu and think I’ve had balanced responses.
Ultimately if we all liked the same thing there would be the same top five names for every little girl/boy, and how boring would that be!

DS2 is Albert nn Bertie, gets nothing but compliments.

Albie as a nn is Confused I've never understood it...

MarshaBradyo · 15/01/2019 13:22

It didn’t bother me at all but I found it amusing

Dd’s fairs very well ;

MutantDisco · 15/01/2019 13:24

Oh, it's not a common name btw - I'm a teacher and have barely met any.

Wheresmrlion · 15/01/2019 13:28

I like Albert.

Unfortunately it immediately makes me think of a Prince Albert piercing. Which is why despite liking it it was struck from our list and replaced with Alfred!

MutantDisco · 15/01/2019 13:35

Obviously there is the Prince Albert link.

But Albert isn't Prince Albert, is it? No-one has ever said 'errr snerr penis piercing' about DS2's name; I very much doubt that a 15 year old could think of anything much to say other than 'Prince Albert haha' and that would be the end of it Hmm

He gets 'Dirty Bertie' though Grin

Clawdy · 15/01/2019 14:08

I think the newest arrival on Coronation Street is called Albert!

SabrinaSpellmann · 15/01/2019 16:12

I think it’s a horrible name. How could anyone look at a little baby and think “Aww Albert.” Or “Awww Martha.” They’re so old fashioned and stale, the first thing that pops into my head is an elderly person. Certain names can be resurrected as ‘vintage’ but others deserve to stay with the old generation, this is one of them.

Namesnamesnamess · 15/01/2019 16:20

Now I asked for honesty Sabrina and if you think the name is horrible that is your opinion and perfectly fine.

But don’t insult the many babies who are Martha and Albert, that is rather. unkind shame on you.

It's very on trend.

It's not a name I like personally (I'm not a fan of any of the Victorian style male names that are big at the minute) but 'Albie' has a certain ring to it.

DS loves the Albie books (by Caryl Hart).

Omzlas · 15/01/2019 16:42

I cannot get my head around naming your child one name and calling him another - why call your child Alexander on his BC and then Alex on a day to day basis? Just name him Alex, it makes zero sense to me

I dislike Albert, Bertie and Albie, it's a big fat NO from me

pilates · 15/01/2019 16:56

I like it, certainly not horrible imo
Go for it.

MrsTommyBanks · 15/01/2019 16:59

I love it. I know an Albert known as Albie. He is the cutest kid I know.
I know an Archie too, he is the second cutest.

Parthenope · 15/01/2019 17:04

Not to my personal taste, but it's an absolutely fine name, and I know several. I get rather impatient with the 'fnar, he could be teased because it could sound like X' playground stuff on here.

The 'don't call your child Orla because it sounds like 'oral', or Lana because it's 'anal' backwards' stuff is just mind-boggling to me.
