And I mean proper fun like you can imagine yourself now having a wicked time getting nothing but pure enjoyment and happiness out of?
I can't think of much at all and this year I need to start making time for myself, I love my children and DH but I need something for me that's fun and that will give me a sense of achievement maybe I'm not too sure.
Things I used to love doing , going on a bike ride around Richmond park, splashing around in the sea, I can't think of nothing else!!! I recently took up reading and read the book within 3 days, that was sort of relaxing but not much fun Confused

OP posts:

There's stuff I can no longer do, it wouldn't be able to try because of progressive health problems, but....

Things We Do:
Play Xbox games together
Play silly non upsetting pranks on each other
Try interesting looking pubs and take the piss out of any odd ale names
Go to gigs and festivals when we've the time and money
Argue over who should do what housework, then make the kids do it anyway

Things I Miss Doing:
Clubbing all night while off my face
Mountain boarding
Getting on a train with a bag on my back and having no idea what would happen or when I'd go home
Fucking off in a camper and see above ^^
Playing badminton, hardcore
Outdoor sex
Ninjutsu

Things I/We'd Like To Do:
More gigs
Stay up later with no repercussions
Travel abroad
Escape rooms
More xboxing?

Ultimately, it's the little moments we make, where we flirt outrageously and pretty much put on the objectification so much that it looks weird and then we collapse about laughing. Him being inside the shower and pressing his overweight body against the plastic shower screen so I can see everything flattened. Me making "the face" when he's about to undress for bed. Those are the things which most make me feel that happy feeling inside. And none of the things I'd like to try would be fun without him there.

Bloodybridget · 16/01/2019 01:56

Rowing, and then sitting around in the café chatting with my lovely fellow club members.
Playing board games: Cluedo with DP and DGS especially fun.
Having a holiday with DP, exploring a new area.
Doing a jigsaw or some Lego, the latter a newly found pleasure.
Doing something decorative for Christmas.
Singing in choir and in a small group.
Finding some nice part of London to walk round, pottering round shops and finding a good café.
A new museum or gallery.

MistressDeeCee · 16/01/2019 03:28

Me & DP like 60s/70s/80s Soul & Jazz Funk, so we go to (age appropriate) one-off events and weekenders pretty regularly.

Community festivals when weather is good are fun, too. Take chairs laze around have a drink...

I also like Swing/Lindy dance and sometimes do a course.

Apart from that, reading. I can get lost in a good book. & chatting/catching up with adult DCs on a chilled evening

All the above make me happy. I don't always have to be "doing" tho. Having the house to myself, under a duvet on sofa with snacks to hand, MNetting/watching whatever I fancy on TV with no demands on my time is bliss personified

This thread made me realise how much it's the little things that really give me joy

  • Walking the dog especially if I have time to do a good hike
  • Jigsaws with the kids - this Christmas we each choose one as an incentive to get off our screens more. We're loving it.
  • Cup of coffee and people watching
  • rare occasions when I can get the kids out the door and go back to bed!
  • dinner with friends then on a the local live music venue

Mummadeeze · 16/01/2019 07:22

Zumba makes me really happy! It is SO fun. Singing in choir and karaoke. I love going to immersive theatre nights. They are expensive but more fun and exhilarating than regular theatre shows. Meeting up with friends for nice food and / or drinks. And I absolutely love going to theme parks with my daughter. Or days out like Kidzania, Harry Potter Studio tour, Zoo. All expensive again but try to do something like that a few times a year. Some TV programmes make me really uplifted and happy. Going on walks in a nice / interesting places. Wandering round shopping centres trying on clothes! Trying out new things. Dancing with friends to cheesy music.

I love drinking alcohol and dancing to 80s music. I do this at every opportunity I can, be it in the house or at an event. I don't think I will ever get sick of this.

RayRayBidet · 16/01/2019 08:47

@Doublevodka
I have absolute 80's on all day. Love 80's music

Spicylolly · 16/01/2019 09:55

Mine's a bit boring compared to all these. I go down into my woods and make living fences, camps, cut wood or just sit and have a coffee ....it's so relaxing and just watching my dogs run around in their element. I love it 😁

OneStepMoreFun · 16/01/2019 11:55

Big muddy walks in the hills or moors or woods nearby. With DC, DH or friends. I love a good hike.

Swimming outdoors. I don't do wild swimming yet, because I'm a wuss, but lidos and cordoned off areas of lakes or when abroad hot springs.

Gigs and theatre. I love a good live show. DH used to complain about the price, but once I'd pointed out that each ticket was way less than the price of a really average pub or pizzeria lunch for the family, and I'd rather we all went to one brilliant gig than ate average pizza two or three times, he agreed. We eat out less now and spend the money on gigs or theatre tickets.

Unusual outings. I love doing stuff that takes me out of my usual routine. E.g. taking DC on the underground postal railway or to the candlelit weavers museum. A while back I went to an evening of Bangladeshi poetry and music. If you do things you've never done, you get that childish thril. Childhood was more fun because the world was still new and surprising so it's good to replicate that.

Animals - cuddling the cat, taking mates' dogs for a walk, petting farms etc.

OneStepMoreFun · 16/01/2019 11:56

@Spicylolly that doesn;t sound boring at all. That sounds brilliant. I;d love to have a go. DS2 has just signed up for a conservation group at school. They go and plant trees and care for local forests.I'm envious.

OneStepMoreFun · 16/01/2019 11:58

@Mummadeeze can you recommend some immersive theatre? I've had my eye on that Gatsby one for a while. I don't know of any others.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/01/2019 12:01

Family games ie Dobble
Mini trampoline

Crazy golf
I definitely need more fun though, my whole life is not what it should be and I need to do something about it.

  • Really good podcast/radio show/audiobook/TV show. Been listening to "Cabin Pressure" on soundcloud and it is so well written and acted that I feel like saying "Yesssss!" aloud at the good bits.
  • Cinema that makes you all emotional
  • Working on a really good project, I love my job
  • Walking in nature watching the dog frolicking about in happiness
  • Having a laugh with the (adult) children
  • Researching on Ancestry, it is like being a detective
  • Evening of quality sex
  • Standup comedy gig
  • Improv theatre (doing it myself)
  • Live music event or anything with dancing for over 40s
  • Frying myself up a steak with pepper
  • Night out with local international group
  • Going somewhere sunny/with a beach - this country is landlocked 😭
Mummadeeze · 16/01/2019 13:33

OneStepMoreFun Gatsby was good, but the best show I went to was Alice’s Adventures Underground. Sadly the run has finished but keep an eye out for anything Les Enfants Terribles do as they are a really good theatre company. I haven’t been to Secret Cinema but it is meant to be really good. I went to Trainspotting Live which was a bit shocking, but an experience. That was also at the Vaults in Vauxhall, so that is a venue to keep an eye on too. I have been to some good bars with immersive entertainment. I really recommend Alcotraz, a prison bar in East London where you drink cocktails in the cells and the staff are all in character. It was really fun. Check out this web page for more ideas: www.culturewhisper.com/r/immersive_adventures_and_pop_ups_in_london/6668

OneStepMoreFun · 16/01/2019 14:15

@Mummadeeze I tried really hard to get tickets for Alice. Even went to the venue and met lots of the performers by accident, as we were trying to find a box office. There was some glitch with the online one and when it was sorted, they'd all sold out. I wish they'd redo that show. I love interactive art exhibitions too. Did you go to the one at the Heyward with the flying machine and the huge slides?
