And I mean proper fun like you can imagine yourself now having a wicked time getting nothing but pure enjoyment and happiness out of?
I can't think of much at all and this year I need to start making time for myself, I love my children and DH but I need something for me that's fun and that will give me a sense of achievement maybe I'm not too sure.
Things I used to love doing , going on a bike ride around Richmond park, splashing around in the sea, I can't think of nothing else!!! I recently took up reading and read the book within 3 days, that was sort of relaxing but not much fun Confused

@caperplips you sound exactly like me!
@anitagreen I had planned to start a thread just like this. Sort of in the mire with small children and have sort of forgotten what's fun FOR ME anymore. Of course having fun with the kids is great but sometimes I am left wanting a little more.

SagelyNodding · 15/01/2019 16:32

I love all and any water sports, so in spring/summer/autumn I'm mostly in the sea/a lake somewhere kayaking or paddle boarding or just snorkelling about... Makes me feel incredibly calm!
I also love doing really silly stuff like playing an improvised game of rounders or going to the trampoline parks Grin
And obviously eating, drinking, seeing friends, shopping etc. There's fun in most things if you find it!

Strokethefurrywall · 15/01/2019 17:52

Live in the Caribbean so am at the beach with DH and the kids most weekends, watching them dick about in the shallows, or by the pool.

If they're not around I take a book and my music and catch rays.
Swimming
Running
F45
Meditation
Singing in my band (we perform in New York most years)
Reading
Playing guitar - DH and I are having lessons
Watching the kids play
Taking dog for long walk
Learning French

Loads really, I love trying new things. There's a Rave Aerobics that's held once a month here, I'm signing up for that.

IncomingCannonFire · 15/01/2019 19:07

@BikeRunSki I'd love to be your friend. I don't ski though. Yet. Wink

Drookit · 15/01/2019 19:13

Dancing to old favourites through Sonos.
Having a drink with DP and watching something entertaining on tv.
Sex
Finding a funny MN thread and laughing out loud.

Parker231 · 15/01/2019 19:15

DH and I going for brunch at our local deli each Sunday followed by a walk through the park.

CherryPavlova · 15/01/2019 19:23

Swimming in sea year round. Makes us giggle like teenagers.
Dancing after a kitchen supper with friends to very cheesy music.
Walking in the woods and kicking puffballs.
Skipping stones.
Face masks with the girls.
Our friends silly games evening with ghastly unwanted Christmas presents as prizes.
Stirring the Christmas pudding.
Lying on the grass and trying to recognise the stars.
Sharing some of the hilarious MN responses with friends or family. Reddit MN trolls even more so.
A really funny book on the train.
Going shopping for smart clothes advice with a very outrageous, totally unPC, gay male work friend.
My dog at the beach or in the woods.

megletthesecond · 15/01/2019 19:27

Nothing really Hmm.

Actually, climbing is always fun and the dc's don't fight. But we don't have a local climbing wall to be able to go regularly. Days out in London are also nice, the dc's don't fight there either.

SpringIntoSpring · 15/01/2019 19:31

Take photos
Go shopping if I have the money
Colour in
Play with Lego
Play card games with my dc and dh

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/01/2019 19:32

Fun? I remember that. I had some in 1994 I think...

Oblomov19 · 15/01/2019 19:42

Fun?
Going on long weekends to Prague, Budapest etc with 3 closest friends.

Going to our caravan in Dorset. Sitting in the sun, drinking tea, reading books.

Going to parties with friends.

Having lunch with Dh is a restaurant when the kids are st school.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 15/01/2019 19:56

I ...

  • volunteer in a safety role at race, rally and sprint events (play with cars and mud);
  • turn the disco light on and dance to old records or the jukebox;
  • chat shit over beer tasting;
  • dance badly to a favourite cheapie live band!

I have other hobbies (lolz, so outing) - but reading, embroidery, walks are lovely and relaxing but not the sheer indulgence of FUN as the others.

TheSconeOfStone · 15/01/2019 21:05

Sharing a bottle of decent red in front of the TV with DH. Always have a snuggle and a laugh.

Singing in an accapella chorus. Proper rush of joy and some lovely people to talk to.

Swimming in the sea.

Dancing and drinking cider at gigs, big name act or local pub covers band.

Cuddling my children.

Cuddling my cat.

Giggling with my children.

Family days out/holidays. Self catering or camping but love watching the DC run wild with new friends while we relax (with cider or wine)

Chatting with friends

My dance aerobics group with cool music and a really friendly bunch.

I'm a real negative misery guts but this list has really cheered me up.

BabiesComeWithHats · 15/01/2019 22:05

Proper fun for me is skiing, paddleboarding, those rare brilliant nights with wine and friends when you laugh all the time, and dancing. Dancing doesn't happen very often anymore although we;re in a Significant Birthday year so hopefully there'll be a few more opportunities.

I was looking through some photos of a family holiday to a theme park we did a few months ago and although it was 'for the kids' DH and I are quite clearly having as much fun as anyone! Love the fact that as our kids get older we have more shared fun together rather than just enjoying their enjoyment IYSWIM

BabiesComeWithHats · 15/01/2019 22:06

Rave Aerobics sounds IMMENSE Strokethefurrywall

GrandmaSteglitszch · 15/01/2019 22:10

Handbell ringing.
Most of the group are new to it, me included, and we have a great laugh. We can play tunes that are almost recognisable now!

April2020mom · 15/01/2019 22:11

I also love going to the cinema and the theatre.
At Christmas time I love to stroll around my local garden centre and look at the decorations. We used to visit our local theme park frequently.
Shopping is always a nice activity to do with the kids. A camping trip is appealing. In February I decided to take up writing and join a local walking club. Tracing our family history is also fascinating to the children.

Coronapop · 15/01/2019 22:11

I don't usually do fun but went snorkelling in the Red Sea recently around the reef and it was amazing, the most fun I can remember having, beautiful fish and saw something different every time.

IdblowJonSnow · 15/01/2019 22:12

Hmm, fun, what's that?! Trying to think of when I last cried with laughter, my kids occasionally do! But as a teen and young adult, maybe up til when I had kids, I laughed a lot more!

callymarch · 15/01/2019 22:13

Rock choir, get to belt out songs and our leader is side splittingly funny

lastqueenofscotland · 15/01/2019 22:18

I run. I utterly adore it. Nothing has made me happier and it trickles into the rest of my life too.

I enjoy skiing but obviously only go once a year
I used to have 2 horses and still enjoy riding but I don’t miss having them as affording them was incredibly stressful. especially as one of them liked the vet visiting him weekly Angry
I like to unwind by reading.

Love51 · 15/01/2019 22:19

Climbing / Go ape style high ropes activities. The one near us isn't open in the winter, but I took oldest DC in the autumn, and laughed my arse off.
Also summer, outdoor swimming. Lakes and resovoirs if you happen to live inland. Big buzz though.
Winter is a bit shit in the UK, that's why they put Christmas there, to drag you through it. It isn't a 'fun' season for me, I'd rather hibernate with books and tea, and emerge in march, blinking at the sun. Music, alcohol, and holidays. And good cooking.

Taffeta · 15/01/2019 22:25

Hosting supper or drinks or best of all parties with friends
Watching plays - New Years resolution to do this more
Eating out with friends and DH
Gorging on a really good book
Long walk with a friend on a crisp day

wanderings · 15/01/2019 22:34

Playing netball - I love the excitement.

Walking into an unknown set of streets, and seeing how soon I come out somewhere I recognise.

Swimming pool waterslides - I love the thrill of them: the darker, steeper and scarier the better!

Walking someone else's dog.

Being in the room as my DH wraps my presents. I have to listen hard for what they might be, because I'm blindfolded and can't see a thing.

Crystal Maze (similar to escape rooms, where you can be a contestant). Done it several times!

blue25 · 15/01/2019 23:56

Exploring new places for the day/weekend
Trips to the seaside
Long walks via pub
Pub with friends
Day in London to see a market/gallery/musical
Trying new restaurants
Beer festivals
Visiting vineyards & wine tasting
