There's a dog in my house

Freezby · 14/01/2019 16:58

There's a Labrador in my house and I don't know where it's come from. DH appears to of left the back door unlocked by mistake, but it was shut? He's at work and knows nothing about it, I've just got home from work and I have acquired a dog. Collar but no ID tag. What is going on?! How did it get in?! Can labradors open and close doors? My little King Charles cavalier spaniel seems to think he's his new best friend so has obviously enjoyed this unplanned play date (thank god a friendly dog decided to break into my house and not an aggressive one) no idea how long this lab has been here but house has been empty besides our dog since 11am. Someone please tell me how this is possible. I'm baffled. Waiting for DH to get back with the car so I can get him to a vets before they all shut and see if he's chipped.

lol wtf must be an angel, keep him!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 15/01/2019 16:50

Bella you might want to try reading the thread.

Rachand23 · 15/01/2019 18:10

What a great idea for a novel!

Kikipost · 15/01/2019 18:10

Unsure why some posters think it's the 'best thread ever' with smiling faces either. It did have a positive result in that the dog is loved and has a home to go to but the reason he was out and about and couldn't be returned right away is very sad.

It’s down to how you approach life. Looking for the positives or focussing on the negatives. You’re the latter, others are the former.

2kidsand1cat · 15/01/2019 18:12

Just wondering what happened with your new friend. Did you find his/her family?

Linlou82 · 15/01/2019 19:34

Awe sounds like the dog has found a good place to go if needed.

I hope the lady gets support and her daughter is ok x

BitOutOfPractice · 16/01/2019 08:45

Oh that was a rollercoaster thread. I do hope the daughter is able to get her mom some support. She does sound quite poorly.

lynfordthecrab · 16/01/2019 11:32

Check the facebook local lost and found pages Im sure someone by now has posted about a lost labrador!
Are you under the doctor for anything - it may be your lab report?!!

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 16/01/2019 11:35

@lynfordthecrab I suggest you read the thread. It's moved on a lot since the OP first posted Hmm

lynfordthecrab · 16/01/2019 11:49

@AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer I am at work I do not have time to read 335 posts, you obviously have nothing better to do. It was a light hearted comment. Get over yourself. No need to be arsey.

AlexaAmbidextra · 16/01/2019 11:53

No need to be arsey.

Oh, the irony. 😄

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 16/01/2019 12:13

Err, actually I think you were the arsey one Confused

MrsLuther · 16/01/2019 12:43

No ain’t it was definitely you

ChrisjenAvasarala · 16/01/2019 12:48

Luther, it's really you. You did the really annoying thing of posting days after the thread started, but without bother to see that things have moved on so your post is completely irrelevant. It's really very annoying, and when people do that they are usually told to read the full thread. The normal response to that is "oops" but you got arsey.

Honeyroar · 16/01/2019 13:21

If you haven’t got time to read the full thread perhaps it’s an idea to read the last couple of pages- that way you get more of an idea

GypsyRoseTea · 16/01/2019 13:36

Nobody needs TELLING to do anything!

Haffdonga · 16/01/2019 13:48

I agree that it's really basic respect to everyone on MN not to post anything if you haven't got time to check at least the OPs recent posts.

I'm glad you found Chester's home, OP. Sadly it doesn't sound like his owner will be able to cope with him any more.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 16/01/2019 13:50

Well Gypsy, you’d best start policing all the threads on here then, since in a fair few of them you will see some posters tell another to “RTFT”.

Nesssie · 16/01/2019 13:52

So people don't have to read through 344 messages - the dog belonged to a lady with dementia. The op contacted her daughter who is trying to support her mother.

astoundedgoat · 16/01/2019 13:59

Nothing useful to add, but what a lovely thread. You're very kind, @Freezby

Excusemyfrench · 16/01/2019 14:05

My lab use to do that. He would find any opportunity to run off for a little walk and if he could he would let himself into peoples houses. He is so friendly and always just wanted a cuddle and a bit of food but I was always mortified when it happened.
People use to find him asleep on their bed or in their lounge or eating anything that had been left out. Without knowing where he had come from!
So naughty.

Now everyone knows him in the village and he is much older so has calmed down.
I hope you found a way to ease your concerns with that poor old lady and her dog.
Xx

Mummylife2018 · 16/01/2019 19:00

I just imagine walking into my house and jumping slightly at a large Labrador sat chilling on the rug Grin

Angie169 · 16/01/2019 20:04

OP & DP
you are both very kind souls , it is good to know that you found out where chester came from .
It is sad to hear about his owner , hopefully her daughter will keep in touch with you . It may sound harsh / mean / cruel but i would tread carefully when it come to offering to take Chester out , walking the pup probably wouldn't be the problem but if the ladies daughter ask you to keep a eye on her mum / just call in to see her / nip to the shops / you could find yourself becoming a unwilling carer .

puppy23 · 16/01/2019 20:58

Sending lots of love to Chester, the lady and of course OP & family - you did a lovely thing today

Freezby · 04/06/2019 17:53

A bittersweet update, to anybody who was interested. Chester's owner unfortunately passed away in March, her daughter took him in but struggled to find the time for him with her job so got in contact with us last month as a last resort before contacting a rescue, and Chester moved into his forever home with us last week. My KC pup is very taken with his new bestie.
