I come from a tiny family. The last baby in our family was me, 31 years ago.

Today is SILs due date. My wonderful DM died shortly after their wedding in 2016 and this feels like the first good thing to happen to our family since.

Help me out MN! I'm child free and I'm not sure I've ever ever held a baby on my life but I'm STUPIDLY excited about becoming and Auntie!!

Have text SIL and DBro and said I totally understand they may want days or weeks alone with DNorN before inviting visitors but that I've kept the diary clear for potential visits in January.

AM. so. EXCITED.

What shall I bring baby? And more importantly SIL?? Any idea for a nice present for a new Mum??

Arrrrrggghhhh! Grin

Great gift OP! Someone got me the frozen meal vouchers when my son was newborn and it was a total lifesaver to have them delivered to heat up when I was trying to establish breastfeeding and couldn't put him down let alone cook proper food!

Congrats on the new arrival! Wine

My baby is 10 months old now, and the best thing we were bought was a baby bjorn bouncer. My DS loved being in it and it meant i could have my hands free for a tea or have a shower/wash my face. It was truly a gift for us both an an absolute essential! You can get them in very good condition second hand too via fb marketplace if youre on a budget.

Am at DFs. Had lovely supper with lots of wine and chatted about how fatherhood suits DBro so much. DF is flabbergasted at present so hopefully they'll like it. Cannot wait for cuddle....babe Charlie you're about to be love bombed! Grin

OP, I just wanted to congratulate you on being my next, as yet unconceived, baby’s godmother! How lucky are you??

PS I like any kind of meringue style pudding (eton mess, pavlova etc), Victoria sponge and bacon sandwiches. I also need a new dressing gown and those slippers you can warm up in the microwave.

Congratulations to everyone and welcome to the world little Charlie!
Love the baby hamper, the Standard is a nice touch!

I went to visit a young parents in the maternity ward when their son was a few hours old. Much appreciated was a pack of M&S sandwiches I happened to have in my bag - the new father hadn't eaten all day!

Muslins are always useful, online I've bought extra size ones and some with patterns on for the newborn to focus their eyes on.

Thank you for the lovely thread, enjoy your cuddles, Auntie! 💝🥂🍾

Aaaaah it was so so so so awesome!

Firstly thank you is for the suggestions because hey adored to gift, SIL almost cried!! They were also super bucked about the paper because they forgot to get one on the day. They loved the food vouchers too.

They are SO excited and happy (and tired obviously). And I held him for an hour and SIL loved it because she could go on her computer and get herself some lunch. She even dressed him in the tiny jumper I got him at the babyshower, even though it's too big. And he slept cutely the whole time and wasn't cross. SIL insisted on millions of photos so I've got lots and she said I can babysit when he's a bit older! Grin

JOY!
