To ask your work 'perks'

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 12/01/2019 10:49

I've read a story this morning about the employees of a company being up in arms that their 'free, unlimited beer' perk has been limited.
Due to noise complaints and a concern for the working environment they've been 'rationed' to four glasses between 5 and 7pm on Thursday and Friday.

I'm gobsmacked!!!

Before that they were able to drink as much as they wanted whenever they wanted throughout the working day - how was any work getting done?

Are job perks like this normal? I was lucky enough to get a free tea in my last job and that was subject to conditions Grin
Does your job give you good perks? If so, where do you work? I'm on the hunt for a new job!

Free tea and coffee all the associated stuff with hot drinks.

A free Christmas doo with 2 drink tokens. Large bacon or sausage cobs on the Friday before xmas.

An Easter egg.

Reasonable (they’ll match 4%) Pension scheme and full sick pay.

The opportunity to get a £60 voucher or free half day holiday every quarter if your team hits its fee earning targets.

Networking events with various free meals and activities - and an opportunity to not do any “real work”.

Local discounts.

25% discount for family on legal work.

Free conveyancing and a free will (and can update every 5 years.)

Jimdandy · 12/01/2019 23:08

Oh yes and a free flu jab.

louise5754 · 12/01/2019 23:22

It's such a shame the NHS and MOD are expected to pay for travel/ uniform / food never mind getting freebies.

Notquiteagandt · 12/01/2019 23:49

Health and dental car

Life insurance

Pension

Bonus and shares

Super cheap gym

Fizzy fridays so a free bottle fizz to drink

Summer hours so half days friday in summer

In house highly substidised restaurant

Parties regularily in work hours for no reason

Team lunches out once a month

Staff discount and sample sales

Flexi time outside of core hours

Fully equiped kitchen each floor with fresh fruit and drinks etc. Ice creams in summer.

They treat us well in comparison I think. But not to disimular to most retail headoffices I have worked in.

Longdistance · 12/01/2019 23:55

I get fed. So unlimited tea/coffee biscuits. Then lunch (which is pretty good tbh), and afternoon tea (sandwiches, cheeses, cake). It stops there really. Though, we do have on-site parking, which isn’t unusual.

Dh gets a few perks. Phone, car, laptop, fuel paid for. Since he’s been there 5 years now, myself and dds are covered with Bupa.

Drunkandstupidagain · 13/01/2019 00:13

NHS so pay into the pension scheme. Other than that we bring our own tea, coffee milk, buy our own kettles, microwave etc. Oh and heater for the room - still only brings it to around 18 degrees!

Yousignup · 13/01/2019 00:24

A driver to and from work (court), but this is an anti-terrorism thing. Free uniform which is washed and ironed at work. No other perks. Not allowed to join a union, political party, be on social media etc, so there are also disadvantages. Oh, and we get to do a defensive driving course every three years for free.

AlliKaneErikson · 13/01/2019 00:26

Er, zero! Am a (very!) qualified teacher but hourly paid on unqualified rate with no holiday pay/sick pay etc. Tis indeed a joke.

ItsQuietTime · 13/01/2019 00:30

I get to read other people's secrets all day, it's awesome! 🙊

MarthasGinYard · 13/01/2019 00:35

Forgot to add all food provided when working and discount on goods.

corythatwas · 13/01/2019 00:37

academic here- I get a free sandwich for a day's work (unpaid) at an Open Day

I do get free pens and pencils but have to pay to attend conferences and for most research costs and teaching material

thaegumathteth · 13/01/2019 00:46

I work from home and pick my own hours and that’s the best perks for me right now.

Dh gets health insurance for us all, shares, discounts off lots of places, death in service, pension, decent holiday accruement, international luxury travel and a decent bonus. All great and appreciated but he often is abroad and can’t work from home or attend school shows etc so it’s swings and roundabouts.

bananafish81 · 13/01/2019 01:32

Free soft drinks fridge, posh coffee machine, selection of tea, fruit, biscuits (+ ice creams in the summer)

Free breakfast on Fridays

Drinks & selection of cheese / dips / nibbles on Thursdays

Beer and wine on Fridays

Chair massage therapist on Fridays

I'm a freelancer so I don't get pension etc but I get all the lovely office environment!

cricketmum84 · 13/01/2019 02:01

Wait how do I get a job in this company????

SurfingGiantess · 13/01/2019 02:42

I'm in childcare... I get no contract? Hot water and get to bring the kids if they're off school. Have to bring my own craft supply with the promise of being paid back but never do, lovely very appreciated presents and cards off parents.
My husband: staff discount, freebies from other companies displaying in their shop like pens, coats, diaries etc. Work phone, free end of line stock if can't be sold, fancy coffees unlimited but bring your own cup.

Tohaveandtohold · 13/01/2019 07:46

Free tea, coffee and fruit on Monday, Christmas party paid for, Good pension, death in service benefit of 6 times my salary, private medical insurance for me and the children, none for spouse, lots of shopping discounts, full salary for 6 months on maternity leave, 5 days carers leave.
All good perks however I hate my job now because of my manager. Need to start looking for a new job with the same company.

SardineJam · 13/01/2019 08:32

100% maternity pay for 1 year
Match and double pension contributions up to 10%
Christmas meal (3 course meal and wine) with either taxi to and from venue or hotel if not local
Flexible working and 1 day working from home a week!
100% costs of university degrees paid for + other relevant training/courses
Autonomy in the job

SardineJam · 13/01/2019 08:33

On and Christmas shutdown (days between Christmas and New Years) that doesn't come from holiday allowance

MrsPatmore · 13/01/2019 08:44

If you are a local authority worker (I think this may also include teachers, police etc) then you can join the Civil Service Social Club (look up CSSC). Lots of discounts on days out, shopping, cinema tickets (saved a lot on this in London) and free entry to places like Hampton Court, Kensington Palace etc. It costs £4 a month and you can usually take an adult plus up to 4 kids free to the stately homes.

Oopsusernamealreadytaken · 13/01/2019 08:48

The only thing I can think of is that we get to earn an extra weeks holiday over the years if our sickness is below a certain level. Although people take their “sick” every year and end up with just as much time off so I’m not sure it really ends up being a perk Confused

Aaaahfuck · 13/01/2019 08:48

I work for a publicly funded organisation in the cultural sector so bugger all! Even my holiday allowance is crap. But I still enjoy my job. I do it despite this!

Inferiorbeing · 13/01/2019 08:51

My DP is NHS and every other night they get left over Greggs deliveries.

I'm a teacher so get long holidays and free food on inset days!

Not much for us :(

munchbunch12 · 13/01/2019 08:54

None whatsoever, sadly. Sad

Jimdandy · 13/01/2019 09:00

Other than the pension is give up all the others for flexi time.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 13/01/2019 09:04

Food on INSET days

Biscuits - and recently, rather rank quiche - for meetings

A sense that I am transforming childrens' lives/free verbal abuse from 14 year olds and/or their parents/a crushing sense of hopelessness - these work on a rotational basis but the first one comes around quite rarely these days.
