Just re-watching it here on Gold. Jean and Dolly have to be my favourites. They definitely had some of the best lines.

Dolly: Who has sex on Christmas morning?
Jean: The Dalai Lama
Dolly: Well! He must peel his sprouts the night before!

And, discussing Jean's relationship with Stan.

Dolly: Is he laying your new lino then?
Jean: He's laying anything he wants to lay!

Jean discussing her ex husband with Bren

Bren: "So the earth didn't move?"
Jean: "Even the headboard didn't move"

Hilarious

abbsisspartacus · 12/01/2019 00:04

Were you always a bit thick Christine or did you take a night class

Seren85 · 12/01/2019 00:05

Absolutely love dinnerladies and given some of the quotes posted it looks like we've all been watching Gold tonight! I love Victoria Wood and can rewatch everything she ever did repeatedly.

PotteryGirl · 12/01/2019 00:06

My go to box set in a time of need...😍.

Encyclo · 12/01/2019 00:18

Customer - "Do you have that yoghurt that's for your intestines?"
Dolly - "No."
Customer - "It's advertised with singing bacteria."
Dolly - "Where is this?"
Customer - "Well this was in Carlisle."
Dolly - "Oh, well, Carlisle. That's a much more gulliable part of the country!"

Encyclo · 12/01/2019 00:20

I think Dolly got the best lines 😂

Dolly - "I have a see-through teapot with plunger."
Jean - "What's that got to do with osteoporosis?"
Dolly - "Oh well I'm sorry, I didn't realise every topic had to link up. I didn't realise I was on Blockbusters."

Christmasfairy07 · 12/01/2019 00:23

Loved it! As someone else posted, Victoria Wood was a genius. Taken far too soon.

Encyclo · 12/01/2019 00:24

Dolly - "What's that?"
Jean - "Half past 4. Documentary. 'Is it true about the syphilis delias myth?'"
Dolly - "Delia Smith's never got syphilis. How dare they?! Don't tell me a woman with spotless tea towels would stoop to that kind of infection."

I’ll stop now 😆

purplecorkheart · 12/01/2019 00:28

Love Dinnerladies. It is one of my go to when I am having a bad day. I love Dolly!

HildaZelda · 12/01/2019 00:40

Bren: "Anita, can you get us a jug of ice?"
Anita: "Cold ice?"
Bren: (after a moment's silence) "Please"

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2019 10:26

I think I manage to quote it at least once a day.

I'm gutted I don't have gold. Apparently, they did a cast commentary doodah recently.

TitchyP · 13/01/2019 22:59

My favourite episode is the one with the mothers' tea party. Thora Hird was brilliant.
"Dolly will tell you, I don't have a sense of humour."

Eric Sykes as Stan's dad.

And Pippa's awful mother... "how many o levels did you fail?" 😀

JacquettaW · 13/01/2019 23:06

"If we're not allowing little sweaty vests into the conversation, we're certainly not going to dwell on Norman's crusty bloomers"

Love it so much! I have the boxset

willstarttomorrow · 13/01/2019 23:14

Victoria Wood was an absolute genius in her observations. She was also generous in the best lines were always the other characters. Her shows are on netflix and are my go to.

CoffeeRunner · 13/01/2019 23:15

I have the box set too. It’s one of 2 sitcoms DS2 & I speak to each other in quotes from. The other being Gavin & Stacey.

DS1 & I are always dropping Phoenix Nights quotes into our conversations. As you do.

ExH never watched any of the 3 shows & was often baffled by what we were saying Grin.

Shame!

Encyclo · 13/01/2019 23:17

I loved the parents episode too.
Eric Idle was sublime as Stan’s Dad:

Tony - "This'll be your first visit to Stan's place of work will it?"
Stans Dad “I'll just drink my tea if you don't mind, rather than chat."

DanielRicciardosSmile · 13/01/2019 23:19

I love it. One of my favourites was when Jean was reading the TV guide and saw "Regrets" and they were talking about how it would be a TV movie about a woman who'd given her child up for adoption, or possibly a career woman who'd left it too late to have a child. There's a pause and then "Oh, sorry its Rugrats" Grin

littlewoollypervert · 13/01/2019 23:20

Just leaving my username here...

Rockbird · 13/01/2019 23:21

Absolutely love it. I listen to it when I can't sleep.

"I'm in borrowed trunks. Tra-la-la"

Sakeofpete · 13/01/2019 23:26

Yes!! I love dinnerladies.. too many funny lines and I love trying to drop one into the conversation. Most people haven't a clue what I'm on about but that rare moment when someone does.. heaven!! Grin
Love all the characters but especially Dolly and Stan.. and Jean

Sakeofpete · 13/01/2019 23:27

One of my favourite bits is Phillipa losing her shit on millennium eve.. bloody fabulous Grin

elQuintoConyo · 13/01/2019 23:27

DO YOU WANT TO SMELL MY CHARLIE? Grin

I need to buy the box set.

TitchyP · 13/01/2019 23:30
