to just not "get" Luther?

Everybody raves about it and it never really caught my fancy. Last night H and I thought - well there must be something good about it, so put on 1st episode....

I just dont "get" it? It felt like Silent Witness for 21stC.... Anyone else feel like this? I think my fundamental problem is that I dont like Luther......

I agree OP. Watched the first few episodes of the first series and was underwhelmed. It's very unconvincing, Luther himself is very unlikeable and I don't get the swooning about Idris Elba either. Liked him as Stringer Bell though.

I've never got into it but have watched it because my mum is a mega fan. It's too violent and the plots just seem ridiculous.

Love Luther- this series wasn’t as good to be fair and felt rushed in 4 episodes.

Having binge watched 18 episodes with just the last two to go this week, I think it's safe to say I disagree. It doesn't bother me at all that it bears little resemblance to reality, that's part of its appeal for me.

Alice is a dick but it's an okay watch, if you can forgive Idris' bad acting.

thanks @Oracle, yeah I was but I stopped following her when she started oversharing every detail of her relationship 50 times a day and it all became very drama filled. still love what she stands for in general though.

I dont get it either,,
I dont understand his relationship with the woman with the big top lip.
DH who usually 'gets' this sort of stuff said that he was a bit 'meh'

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Luther! I kept reading rave reviews about the series but I had never got round to watching it. I started watching the first series around a month ago and I really wanted to like it. I didn't like it at all! He, of course, is gorgeous but the plots and script is dire! It just isn't very good.

I have tried to persevere with it, and I tried a later series incase it improved: it hadn't. It is actually really, really silly. I had read somewhere that it is camp, and I often like camp, but....nope. Unwatchable. Such a shame.

Luthor’s better than Sherlock, but everything on the BBC is. I agree it’s becoming a bit too formulaic. But seasons 1 and 2 are amazing

I've LOVED Luther before, but DH and I have watched two of this series and not fussed. The current story line(s) is/are absurd.

I liked the first couple, but the latest series was not very good at all. If they wanted to bring back Alice, fine, but the other psycho killer story was sort of shoehorned in, and completely wasted.

Then again, I've never really got the big Idris Elba love either.

I loved him in The Wire but he's even better in Luther. Plus he's just bloody gorgeous.

I hate it because I find it absolutely terrifying and can’t get certain scenes out of my head but I can’t deny it’s well made and brilliant TV.
