To think 90s Britpop/Indie music was just so cool

Just rediscovered one of my old Shine albums and have been bopping around the kitchen to the sounds of Blur, Oasis, Suede, Ash, Pulp, Elastica, Sleeper etc. Had kinda forgotten just how great all that music was...feeling nostalgic for the long hot summer of 1995 now.... Any other fans out there?

I saw Suede a few months ago. Brett Anderson is a great front man.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 11/01/2019 17:01

Oh god I want my 1990s back

RJnomore1 · 11/01/2019 17:29

Not britpop but my lemongrass tickets arrived in the post today!

Missdread last time I saw belle and Sebastian was TRNSMT 2017. Saw Auden Moffat that summer at kelvingrove bandstand too then bumped into him st nick cave at the hydro (but was too shy to ask for a photo)

FUCK IT I'm still having my 90s 😂

RJnomore1 · 11/01/2019 17:30

Oh I went to see miles hunt last month too ...

theresaspiderinthesink · 11/01/2019 17:35

Oh yes, 95 was the year I went to uni. I'm was listening to the verve the other day on the radio and thought how extremely good that music was.

KOKOagainandagain · 11/01/2019 17:53

I saw so many bands at freshers week that students in the towns had never heard off and were playing to empty rooms - Inspiral Carpets at Manchester, Echobelly at Essex. I loved Echobelly ... King of the Kurb

Bloody phone and bloody me not proof reading

LemonHEADS

heartshapedknob · 11/01/2019 18:05

I bloody loved the late ‘90’s. Live music was accessible on a part time wage, I went to see MSP at the Nynex between GCSE’s, Placebo at Brixton Academy and so many other bands, I don’t think I’ve had as much fun since! Also interviewed a plethora of small but interesting bands for a fanzine type thing me and some friends were trying to cobble together - Idlewild, Mogwai, Ether are the ones I remember. Going out with maybe a bit of mascara wearing jeans and a band t-shirt and no-one batting an eyelid. Good times Grin

Polkapjs · 11/01/2019 18:14

I was at uni mid 90s and it was simply the best. We had such a wealth of music and yyy to clubbing without anything more fancy than a pair of jeans and cheesecloth top with my docs, or a denim skirt and docs if I felt like dressing up. No fake tans or hair straighteners. Easier times

I met Lauren Laverne after a Kenikie gig in Wolverhampton. It was actually one of the best gigs I ever went to. Those 2 girls just did whatever they wanted to.

I also lived my own dream a few years ago when I went to watch the My Life Story reunion gig and then met them in the bar afterwards. Stayed out drinking and partying till 4am with my fave band! (And then went home to my husband and kids and a massive hangover).

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 11/01/2019 18:25

RJ Lemonheads to Lemongrass is such a middle-class middle-aged autocorrect Grin

Saw Reef at a gig at the end of last year, they were amazing.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 11/01/2019 18:26

And I didn't know Lemonheads were touring so thankyou!

Aragog · 11/01/2019 18:31

This is my and dh's sixth form and university music.

We've managed to get 16y Dd into some of it now too - it was her idea to go and see Liam Gallagher this year and it was definitely the Oasis hits that were the best. She was less convinced by The Charletans in December but quite liked James.

I recently found my ticket from the Oasis Knebworth concert in 1996. :)

And we went to Pulp's last concert in Sheffield a few years back. That was excellent!

VelvetMoss · 11/01/2019 18:43

I was in my 30s but still thought it was a fantastic time for music after the, er, more "mixed" Hmm eighties.

Gomez, REM, Massive Attack, Nirvana, Suede, Pulp, Travis. The list is endless.

All brilliant.

VelvetMoss · 11/01/2019 18:46

I just can't listen to most pop music now. Its either brutal skanky drill rap. Or the sugary sentimental pap. Or formulaic sort of disco-pop. However, very occasionally I hear some interesting things from the United States. The theme tune of Big Little Lies I love to bits. A few tracks in Suits. The odd bit of fab modern folk type music I hear, here and there. But mostly I don't listen.

slippermaiden · 11/01/2019 18:55

Yes I'm still living the dream every time I listen to Absolute radio. It was the best music, I love 60s stuff too.

RJnomore1 · 11/01/2019 19:52

Who mentioned my life story?

Jake is trying to crowdfunding their new album. You can pledge to buy in various formats in advance, they take payment when they reach target. Can start from £8 for the download.

I've bought the vinyl, bloody missed the sleeper one, it's sold out, raging. Btw sleeper are touring in march.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/01/2019 19:56

I love 90's indie / Britpop / grunge / alternative music.

From the end of the 5th year we'd go to an alternative night at the local club (telling our parents under-18s were allowed in ) on a Monday night and once I was 18 I'd head over to the next town and go to an indie / punk / alt rock pub and onto another alternative club afterwards (and there were a few to choose from).

I, like a few PPs did A Levels in '95 and had a joyous long summer with the BEST soundtrack ever! It probably was almost the best time of my life.

FoxBaseBeta · 11/01/2019 21:33

Ah I'm very much a child of the nineties, Suede, Manics, St Etienne, Elastica, Pulp, Stereolab, Broadcast, way too many bands to remember! I saw Suede at their new album launch a few months ago and they were still amazing Grin

The summer of 1995 was definitely the summer of my youth...did anyone go to the free Heineken festival in Roundhay Park? Pulp, Sleeper, Menswear Grin, Catatonia, Bluetones, Powder. Happy days

FoxBaseBeta · 11/01/2019 21:38

Also, someone mentioned The Autears, I also saw Black Box recorder a few times, always brilliant.

MsRinky · 11/01/2019 22:04

My DH got me Lemonheads tickets for Christmas, which is very understanding of him as he knows I have never quite got over snogging Evan Dando in 1991. Saw BMX Bandits just before Christmas as well, they are better than ever.

I was 17 in 1990, and went to about three gigs a week for the next decade. And yes, I did go to that Heineken festival in Leeds in 95!

YouFellAsleep · 11/01/2019 22:11

I just listened to link that a PP put on of the Waterboys, what a song! I haven't heard that song for years! Funny how you remember all the words and reminisce of your teenage self Smile

JustDanceAddict · 11/01/2019 22:13

I agree. I was at uni in the early 90s and was in my 20s for most of the decade. Fab times - prob best of my life between 18-28 pre-marriage/kids.

HorseDoorBolted · 11/01/2019 22:15

Loved it all. Time of my life.

happydays1983 · 11/01/2019 22:15

Ahhhh loved Shine. All I hear now is shed 7 chasing rainbows going round my head now. I listened to What's the Story Morning Glory tape so much that I chewed it.
I was a massive Oasis fan with Liam Gallagher poster on my wall - now I think he's a bit of a twat. 😂😂
Prefer Noel these days but he's full of himself too but still find him funny.
