I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

True MsTSwift - it's not the BEST name! Certainly not one I'd pick for my children or animals. But the full version actually makes me recoil.

pineapplepenthouse · 11/01/2019 09:52

At my daughters dance school there is every variation of the name Aleiah, Aleyeah, Alliayah and then there's a couple of Aria/Arriyah's. Parents all trying to be different yet all the names sound the same.
Must be a nightmare constantly having to spell your name for people!
Won't someone think of the children! Confused

Bishalisha · 11/01/2019 09:58

Now even my DD’s nickname is getting it. Just checked the white trash names and I officially have a full house 🙌🏼

tillytrotter1 · 11/01/2019 10:07

Kimberley, I can't even say without sounding like Victoria Wood, when we were house hunting we put the village of Kimberley onto the no-way list because of the name too! Similarly we saw a house we liked many years ago but it was in Skegness Close so it was a no-no!

Bishalisha · 11/01/2019 10:10

Ffs 😂

MsTSwift · 11/01/2019 11:54

There’s a group of girls in dds class who all have names with too many vowels variations on Aaliah, Kaia etc. Stop with the excess vowels!

MrsKoala · 11/01/2019 11:58

There are a very very few names I absolutely hate and all of those are because the sounds are hard and don't flow well for me. There was one on the radio the other day and when I said it out loud it felt like I had marbles in my mouth. All the rest are nice, and at worst just okay as words go. So really my list of all the names I wouldn't use is every single name out there other than the 3 I have used and maybe 4 left over form our list which we wanted too.

Apart from Nick. I love that name but I've slept with a few and I think it's far too sexy to name my kids. They don't need that kind of pressure in life!! Grin

MsTSwift · 11/01/2019 12:28

Nick and mark are sexy in a way that Tim is not Grin

ohohoops · 11/01/2019 13:13

Derek, Graham, Ian, Edward, Gary, Barry, Gordon, Piers, Hugo
Joan (sounds like moan) and Jane much nicer. Lesley, Shirley, Hilary, Penelope
Anything that look like it is spelt wrong unless you have a connection to an alternative spelling/other language Eg Emilia instead of Amelia, Elysia, Alyssia when you want it pronounced as Alicia (Alice-ia),. Alicia when you want it pronounced Aleesha, Casper instead of Kaspar or Caspar.
Funnily enough I don't mind Mae instead of May
Surnames for first names eg Harrison (unless your parent is a Harry and then it would have comedy value)

greathat · 11/01/2019 16:38

Mia myah meeah Mya no rule on pronunciation and kids (and parents) that get pissed off when I say it the wrong way. Is it MY-A is it ME-A or some slightly subtler version, who knows!

NorthernRunner · 11/01/2019 16:45

Derek or Gary.
My uncles names and they are the most miserable, selfish, grumpy old men I know.

I’m not a fan of names like Megan, Kate, Beth, Olivia, Amelia, or Ruth. Perfectly nice but a bit boring. My daughter has a friend called Mabel at nursery and I love the sound of that name.

Aside from grumpy old men names mentioned above I don’t have a very strong feeling against any names really.

Claudia1980 · 12/01/2019 01:23

Emma- all bitches
Sophie - usually slutty
Jayden/cayden - white trash
Wayne/dwayne/Rein - Moany and sound annoying
Storm/Roxanne/Kendal - stripper names

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 12/01/2019 12:57

Thoroughly bored of Mia. It’s quite drippy sounding too.

MsMarshaKlein · 12/01/2019 15:00

Serendipityme. My real name is Fiona, I just use the name Marsha Klein on any social media or chat rooms as my employer is a nosey fucker. I grew up in central Scotland where it's not an uncommon name but, at my rough high school at least, it marked me out as "posh" for some reason (the fact I did Latin and attended a prestigious ballet school in Edinburgh at weekends probably didn't help) I think we all go through phases where we don't like our name but I think I've grown past Fi and into Fiona. I know where you're coming from though, I hate the names Julie and Linda for the exact same reason

MsMarshaKlein · 12/01/2019 15:16

RedToothBrush -I used to work with a girl called Persephone. She was a posh, jolly hockey sticks type. She ended up being nicknamed Piss Off . She was a really nice girl and it sort of suited her but it's not a name many could carry off

tiggerkid · 12/01/2019 15:17

Would never consider Chardonnay, Jayden, Tracey etc.

beanaseireann · 12/01/2019 16:33

Greatthat
I'm with you on Mia - Mia or Mya
I always pronounce it the wrong way for the Mia I'm speaking too. Ffs.

Kpo58 · 12/01/2019 17:33

Lisabel · 12/01/2019 17:41

Gertrude (subjectively sounds very ugly!)
June/Jean/Ruth (personal preference- very plain, nothing pretty about them)
Josephine
Constance
Millicent (sounds like malevolent, malicious etc.)
Aaron (just personal preference)
Dennis/Donald/Derek
Tyler/Mackenzie (non- classy names)
Kacey/Kaley/Kerry/Hayley/Chelsea (hairdresser names)

Crocosnap · 12/01/2019 18:04

I have a very unusual name. It's rubbish, everyone asking me to repeat it, spell it, making fun of it. So yes my kids names are popular and overused.
Funnily,my brothers names are very popular for the times , so no idea why I got such an odd name.
They've never been bothered by having the same name as someone else no one blinks an eye.
But me, a target of ridicule!!
Anyway, it's just a name, we are still who we are. Mines becoming popular now, I'm so happy. Grin I'll be able to introduce myself with no raised eyebrows soon Smile

abcriskringle · 12/01/2019 18:47

Thomas- every other male I know is called this.
Sally - childhood fear. A book I read had a villain called Sally; never got over it.

sparklesq · 12/01/2019 19:05

Isla. I would worry she'd marry somebody with the surname White or Mann

elephantinstripeysocks · 12/01/2019 19:09
