eBay mishap

Cindas · 04/01/2019 21:40

I decided to use my Christmas money to buy a swishy hair styler brush thingy. Package arrived today.

It wasn't a swishy hair styler brush thingy. It was a bundle of dog toys. Including a rope carrot.

I don't have a dog.

My aunt once ordered flea spray from Amazon, and received a bottle of Calvin Klein perfume (which she was allowed to keep).

Isn't that....fraud, to be sent the wrong item? Don't get how you'd get dog toys and hair brush mixed up?

Cindas · 04/01/2019 22:02

I'm presuming that it was entirely accidental, and somewhere else there is a disappointed dog with a beautifully styled coat.

The seller does seem to solely sell beauty electrical items though, so it's certainly not the most obvious of mix-ups.

How is accidentally being sent the wrong item fraud? Confused

Yes indeed. Notify the Serious Fraud Office pronto! Hmm

I ordered a little guitar pick holder costing £2.50 from Amazon.
They sent me a whole box of them! 25 instead of 1

Cindas · 04/01/2019 22:14

It wasn't liked they had boxed it up like a hair styler. The package was all knobbly, and clearly not what I was expecting. I had to do a bit of detective work to deduce who has sent it, as I am awaiting another eBay parcel (Boden bag, also non-pet related).

I am prone to a bit of late night e-Buying, so I had to check that I hadn't ordered it myself while semi-conscious. I hope I don't get an actual dog delivered tomorrow.

I fear Amorea may need to brush up on her knowledge.

See what I did there

My mum asked for a gilet for Christmas and I was amazed to get one on EBay (decent brand) for £14. Trouble was, when it arrived I realised it was not a size 18 ... but 18-24 months!

FreshlyWashed · 04/01/2019 22:21

Oooo. steppemum' you've reminded me. One Christmas I helped my mum do hero line order. We ordered a piece of fresh ginger and they sent a kilo.

To be fair, though, I think this was probably my fault. And they were v good and helpful about rectifying it.

GemmeFatale · 04/01/2019 22:24

Ordered dog toys, received a scrubbing brush.

Can’t help but feel this is a commentary on my cleaning skills

Nectarines · 04/01/2019 22:25

In my online shop once I ordered five kilos of bananas instead of five bananas. 😬
Made a lot of banana cake that week 😂

SlipperyLizard · 04/01/2019 22:29

We ordered some toys for DDs birthday, when we opened the package the night before to wrap it, we found a hot and cold water dispenser!

We sent it back and didn’t bother getting the toys in the end. The returns process was a bit tricky as we only had an order for the toys to generate a “return”!

I ordered a couple of things from Lush a few xmas's ago. Was sent someone else's MASSIVE Christmas order by mistake. I contacted them to explain what had happened and to say I would be returning it but was told I could keep it. They then sent me (and presumably the other customer in question) the original order. Very, very nice of them. I was a very happy bunny- love Lush stuff but don't buy a lot of it as find it pretty expensive

Snap Nectarines

LongWalkShortPlank · 04/01/2019 23:09

I ordered multivitamins with iron and was sent tablets for cats. It's a good job I read the label or I'd have a very shiny coat. Grin

MuddyMoose · 04/01/2019 23:31

A friend of mine recently ordered a glittery crown with the number 1 on it for her daughters 1st birthday cake smash shoot.

She was sent HALF a curtain pole instead. She messaged to ask for a refund / correct item to be sent which they refused to do but offered her to keep the half a curtain pole instead!!

Iwantamarshmallow · 04/01/2019 23:44

I brought a breastfeeding cover off eBay and received a really blingy necklace shaped like a phone charger.... took my ages to work out what had happened.

ItsQuietTime · 04/01/2019 23:44

"What's your favourite online shopping mishap?"

I reserved an expensive handbag from Saks 5th Avenue, that hadn't been released yet, they accidentally only charged me for half of its price. Then sent an email saying it was their mistake and they would send the handbag without charging me more. 😍

I knew there would be some good examples out there!

We ordered some boules once (you know the shiny silver balls that the French use, a bit like bowls where you throw a small ball then everyone else has to throw theirs and get it the closest). Anyway this was for a work social, we were going to hold a tournament but when the boules arrived they were teeny tiny more the size of marbles!

yummyscummymummy01 · 05/01/2019 00:48

I am forever ordering one banana instead of a bag. Looks so disappointing in its little wrapper when I get my online order.

JockTamsonsBairns · 05/01/2019 00:56

On one of my earliest ventures on to ebay, I was delighted to win a rather lovely oak hall table, all for the bargain price of 99p. Being inexperienced, I didn't think to question the equally inexpensive postage rate. When it arrived, I realised I'd actually bought a two inch dolls' house table Grin

Fruitbatdancer · 05/01/2019 00:57

I once ordered a cook book from amazon and got a dolls head Shock
An actual full size head for practicing hair dressing ( I assume?! ) freaked me right out, in a giant box, I initially thought it was real!
Returns department were bewildered, told me to keep it and they’d resend the book.
Odd.

categed · 05/01/2019 01:11

I ordered photo wall pictures and revieved another persons through the post.

When i asked about returning they said to keep tgem 🤔😕 however i made contact with the real owner sent them on but no one had mine.

SpoonBlender · 05/01/2019 02:03

A lot of vendors on ebay and amazon are actually 'drop shippers', acting as an intermediary between some supplier of things, and you as the customer. The vendor doesn't hold any stock, and is somewhat at the mercy of the competency of the suppliers...

Worst I had was... well, tbh I can't remember what the actual order was for, but it was about £200 and what I got two weeks later was a set of six Angry Birds pencil bobbers. When I emailed back, they asked me to send them back to China at my own cost! After a bit of back and forth I got my whatever-it-was and gave the Angry Birds to a friend's kid.
