Head of Marketing for a visitor attraction. Lovely place to work, great team and a very short commute.

littlemeitslyn · 04/01/2019 09:26

'Digital forensics ' oooooh fascinating!

Kko1986 · 04/01/2019 09:30

I was an IT engineer for 10 years had my baby and am now a cleaner in the evenings so I can spend time with her

I'm a 1:1 Teaching Assistant in a primary school (SEN). 10 minute commute. I love my job but I have to deal with some very challenging behaviour so it can be quite exhausting. I enjoy the fact that I get home around the same time as my children return from school and that I share the holidays with them! The main downside is the pay. It's very low and does not correlate with the increasing levels of responsibility etc. Not sure if it's sustainable long-term.

Aozora13 · 04/01/2019 09:39

I know what you mean @TheSheepofWallSt - I think there’s a lot of misconceptions about the third sector, like we’re all just a bunch of well- meaning but not very professional do-gooders with nice easy jobs who should be doing it just for the love!

Riddo · 04/01/2019 09:41

I'm a childminder. I love it but only work part-time due to health issues.

MsTSwift · 04/01/2019 09:41

Don’t quite understand how women having professional jobs is “not in the real wold” Hmm

khaleesi71 · 04/01/2019 09:43

Director Operations for an overseas medical school - I ensure everything from marketing to admissions to enrolment and curriculum delivery and assessments run smoothly. Also have remit for H&S, HR, finance accommodation and capital projects - huge job and exhausting but very rewarding. Love the variety and I see so many roles here that I am thankful for - housemother in a boarding school is great! My older DD are still in touch with theirs. I have also worked behind a bar, in retail and other less well paid jobs in my scramble to my lofty heights Wink

School Business Manager

toucan12 · 04/01/2019 09:52

Military Doctor, only joined a couple of years ago, much prefer it to the NHS and I get to travel to lots of interesting places!

Greggers2017 · 04/01/2019 10:18

@MiniTheMinx I decided on a career change as I was working as a SEN teacher in an inner city achool.
I applied originally as admin worker and worked my way up. I love the work. Making a difference in people's lives is so satisfying. I work with all walks of life. Addiction can hit anybody at any time.

bunhead34 · 04/01/2019 10:18

@Galacticat can I ask how you got into that?
It's something I am considering for a career change! I have zero experience or qualifications in that area! I'd love to work with animals. How's the salary?

I'm currently a product developer for a clothing company. Not the worst, but not something I love or even like most of the time - meh

Some real impressive jobs on here - go ladies!

bunhead34 · 04/01/2019 10:22

@Galacticat actually I think it was vets assistant I was looking at, more junior than vets nurse and you don't need qualifications I think 🤔

usernamerisnotavailable · 04/01/2019 10:37

Managing Director of a creative agency. 5 days a week with at least 1 day wfh. 1 hour commute and flexible hours (which I also offer to my team). Love it.

teachergirl2011 · 04/01/2019 10:41

School Teacher in a BESD School bloody hard work!

Applesaregreenandred · 04/01/2019 10:43

For those commenting on the number of professional roles held by MNers, there was a thread a couple of months back with somebody commenting similar and asking where we're all the hairdressers, shop assistants and loads of people responded , so, yes, this is representative of those around to respond to this thread.

I'm an administrator for local children's services department. I work PT, 45 mins commute depending on traffic.

Cath3081 · 04/01/2019 11:24

I'm a risk analyst in the financial sector. Currently doing 3 days per week since returning from mat leave last year. 20 minute train commute each way.

Doobydoo · 04/01/2019 11:36

Nurse. Just doing it as 5 mins away. Hate the 12+ hour shifts.

Enidthecat · 04/01/2019 11:41

Manager in an animal welfare charity, love my work. Really rewarding. I work from home so no commute but I do have to travel quite a lot.

donerwillbehere · 04/01/2019 11:44

Special needs teacher , secondary school . Love love it ......... although very very intense . Not so much pupils . Admin is ridiculous.

holasoydora · 04/01/2019 11:45

I work at my local council, three full days a week. Not my dream job but it is good pay, good holiday, flexible, quite interesting, (mostly) nice people and I don’t take work home with me.

tiredtruffle · 04/01/2019 11:58

Software developer, director of a tech startup.

Tighnabruaich · 04/01/2019 12:01

Journalist on local paper. 15 minute commute.

Pyjamaface · 04/01/2019 12:02

Taxi Controller. 23 hours a week in 2 day shifts.

Old school style, so it's all done with pen, paper, radio and my brain power when it works.

It's NMW but every day is different and it's a good laugh. I'm hoping I'll give it up before the end of the year to be at home for a while, just waiting on DP's pay rise BlushGrin

BitchQueen90 · 04/01/2019 12:05

Admin, school hours only. I'm not a high flier or interested in earning pots of money. As soon as I'm out the door I can forget about work and that's what is important to me.
