@JennyOnAPlate why would you feel that way?
I've stayed at home since our son was born and I never feel less or hated.
It's wonderful to see so many women doing interesting jobs but we all have a roll in society. I'm perfectly happy to be at home.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 04/01/2019 12:41

I’m a journalist working for a big international news organisation. At the moment, because of childcare, I’m working 4 days a week spread over 5 days. I love it - interesting work, great colleagues, ok money.

@BrigitsBigKnickers - you sound like the amazing pre-school teacher who worked with my DD from toddlerhood and still sees her in school. People doing your job are a lifesaver to parents of children with SEN. (You’re not in N London, are you? Smile)

girlwithadragontattoo · 04/01/2019 12:43

Reservations manager for a tour operator. Live in Portugal though from the south. Love it, learning the language and love the location

Not in London but one of the Home Counties- I actually work for a sensory support team with deaf and hearing impaired children. Smile

Applesaregreenandred it's pretty obviousthat nobody meant women don't work in professional roles, but rather that the replies threads like this get don't reflect the proportion of the adult population in different types of work, or indeed not in work, in "the real world". Like any self selecting survey it's pretty meaningless, because people only reply if they want to - so many people who are a bit meh about their job won't, and of course people do like because it doesn't matter and people (like the super rich trolls, multiple birth trolls, really big family trolls etc. on other threads) live out their fantasy lives on forums sometimes. It doesn't mean that there aren't lots of women in professional roles (which doesn't always mean high flying or well paid anyway), high flying careers (which might not be traditionally professional), high income households or with 6 kids, or two sets of twins - of course all those women exist in the real world. It's just that they are disproportionately represented on MN threads because of self selecting bias and a few tellers if tall tales...

blueskiesandforests · 04/01/2019 13:45

Sorry, no idea where my paragraphs went!

stevie69 · 04/01/2019 13:45

I'm a chartered accountant. I LOVE it Smile

moveoverhogger · 04/01/2019 13:49

Senior Bank Manager
Pros: Money is good & commute less than 30min
Cons: I'm never off the job, always expected to be available to take calls/reply to e mails; very high pressured, goal posts constantly being changed, staffing levels have depleted so much in recent years that it's a battle just trying to keep my branches open at times, I'll stop there!

It's certainly not the job it used to be and the one I did love, but the truth is after 15years I have no idea what else I could do & earn the same money.

FfionFlorist · 04/01/2019 13:54

I'm a Finance Director for a £1bn turnover org. You'll all have heard of the business. I love my job, it's interesting and very rewarding.

Shopkinsdoll · 04/01/2019 13:57

Goodness! What wonderful jobs people have on here! Suppose that’s the beauty of the world web, people can pretend to be anything! Not saying everyone is fibing but it’s bizare that most people are high flyers earning big bux.

DammitOedipus · 04/01/2019 13:59

I write user manuals and standardise outdated material. Sounds dull, but I do love it!

needsleepzzz · 04/01/2019 14:04

@Hernam3waslola wow! I watch a lot of those real life 24hrs in A&E, Helicopter ER etc programmes, i watched one from Aus yesterday and they were doing a heart transplant, i am so in awe of you guys, your amazing

needsleepzzz · 04/01/2019 14:32

PA, decent pay, 30 min drive commute, very flexible working. Nothing massively exciting but it's a good job and my bosses are great

Timmytoo · 04/01/2019 14:36

I'm self employed organizing luxury safari and cultural holidays in Africa as well as VIP conferences and company incentive trips. It's awesome, work from home and I work the hours I want, money excellent. In addition to this, I have two clients of which I handle their social media platforms and they pay me a very good monthly rate.

Applesaregreenandred · 04/01/2019 14:52

@blueskiesandforests I think you've misunderstood my post!!! I was responding to some other posters who were expressing surprise at job roles posted on this thread, and whether this is representative. We are both saying the same thing Grin

Cath3081 · 04/01/2019 15:40

Timmytoo how did you get into that? I'd love your job!

Fleurdalys · 04/01/2019 15:52

Teach young people aged 16-19 years old with severe learning difficulties and /or autism.
Love it.

DanielleEvans · 04/01/2019 15:53

It's really interesting that the majority of replies are from people who are high earners and / or have an interesting job!

Surely there must be people here who work in Asda or have a boring admin job?

Rodenhide · 04/01/2019 15:57

Scriptwriter.
Absolutely love it.
Used to be a university lecturer and still do occasional related work.

Billydessert · 04/01/2019 16:23

I'm a baker.
Not great pay but I'm being paid to do my hobby so very happy.

Timmytoo · 04/01/2019 16:31

Hi @Cath3081

I kind of fell into it. Had a great job that I loved but unfortunately I lost it in the worst possible way - a breakdown and a really bad Bipolar episode 😢.

Anyway, after losing that job, I contacted the lady who organised the travel and safaris for our clients attending the courses I ran, Ive known her for 3 years.
I asked her if she knew of anything.

She immediately said she had wanted someone to run the Cape Town branch (I live in CT) but never had the right person to run it.

She's exceptionally successful and an expert in the industry.

I flew up to Johannesburg to meet her and she gave me the opportunity of being a partner in the company with 50% profit share. I grabbed this with both hands and have been doing it ever since.

We are actually looking to set up a branch in London too. I get to visit the safari parks to ensure they are still up to our standards and I get complimentary stays in 5* hotels. If there's been a change of management, we won't use that establishment for at least 6 months to ensure the new manager has settled and the guests will receive the best service.

I'm also going to review new hotels in Victoria Falls next month and will be attending travel expos in London. So great traveling experiences and another great perk is receiving complimentary spa treatments from the hotels 🤗

We've just recently secured a conference for 400 people and upon payment, I received R800 000 which equates to £45000 and that's just one event.

I'm so proud as I never thought I'd earn this sort of money due to my mental conditions that have always held me back - Bipolar 2, ADHD and GAD.

I spent 10 years in London and West Berks and my highest salary was 20 000 pounds a year, so never thought I'd ever earn well.

It also suits my conditions as I work from home so a relaxing atmosphere. If I'm feeling down or can't focus, I can drop the work and pic it up in a couple of hours. The owner knows of my conditions and supports me with jobs I'm not comfortable with ie negotiations and accounts.

I am able to utilize all my marketing experience and graphic design skills as well as implenting new ideas. For example, if I see a beautiful sunset etc, I take a pic and put it on our Facebook page as a reason to visit SA. It captures my imagination and takes my creativity to the next level. I'm so happy and finally feel as if I truly belong and I see this as a career for life. I love it so much!! I love living in Cape Town SA so much and I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to see the most magnificent sites you've ever dreamt of. I've also managed to finally purchase my own house outright after years of renting in the UK.

APOLOGIES IF I SEEM TO BE BOASTING. IM JUST SO HAPPY I CANT CONTAIN MYSELF HmmGrin

Timmytoo · 04/01/2019 16:36

Sorry for long post. It's just after years of struggling, being bullied and some job loss, I finally feel somewhat successful and that I'm getting somewhere at last. I honestly cannot believe it. I was so depressed after losing yet another job and felt so down but I didn't want to give up. So I looked for new opportunities and never thought I'd get this .

gateto · 04/01/2019 16:40

I've gone back to uni and I've got quite a good set up at the moment. From Sept-Apr I'm studying full time and then through the summer months i work full time in an admin position. It's well paid enough to give me those other months to focus on study

jelliebelly · 04/01/2019 16:50

Banker - Head of Department - well paid and v flexible

Pugworld · 04/01/2019 17:40

I'm a Door Supervisor in a nightclub. I basically try to prevent drunk people from killing themselves or anyone else.

My job is both hilarious and horrifying in roughly equal proportions, but never boring. I love it.
