I’m a primary teacher (rep of Ireland) but I do supply work (substitute). Substitute teachers are in demand here so i work every day (except the odd day every so often) 9.00-2.40 (3 at the latest) walk in and walk out. 180€ a day! Can’t beat it!!

Civil servant working in London for over 20 years now with about an hour horrible commute each way every day. Flexible working pattern and relatively good pension but they now want you to do the job of a few people for same crap pay. The stress has got worse over the last few years and sometimes I wish I could just work nearer home. The pension is the only thing keeping me there.

LeslieYep · 05/01/2019 21:32

@basilfaulty I'm staff. We've just had a pay offer and our pay isn't bad even considering the static 'offerings' of the past decade or so. Bonuses are something that happen to other people!

I consider it a very cushy job since I cannot take work home given the sensitive nature of it, and I'm not senior enough to be told I can't take this afternoon off work.

We don't get the pay of DC's though and we don't get subsided travel. But, I like the job and it's handy with a family.

ScarletPower · 05/01/2019 21:45

Back office police role (don't really want to say what I do) but I work from home 5 days per week (except the one day a month I have to go into the office), work flexi time, have a good pension, 30 days per year annual leave - and the work is interesting to boot. I think this sums me up right now:-

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I'm sure it won't last forever (cuts, restructures etc) so I am enjoying it while I can.

JennyFisher12 - should you be posting that on a forum?

So many interesting jobs here.
I'm a Speech Therapist currently working part-time for the NHS in the cochlear implant team. Absolutely love it so rewarding.
I also do private therapy 1 day a week which is keeping my skills up with the under 5's.

Mid ranking civil servant, lots of travelling around the country and do ridiculous hours, nightmare balancing with youngish children. Take home pay is lower now than 10 years ago due to pension changes.
Looking for a part-time local job without the travel

Sleepingbunnies · 06/01/2019 00:18

Exec PA. 1hr commute each way. Love my job.

SoleBizzz · 06/01/2019 00:20

whycantIthinkofadecentusername · 19/01/2019 11:18

I'm an emergency planner for a local authority.

SittHakim · 19/01/2019 11:37

Public sector specialist job, quite senior, central London. No travel now, but there was quite a lot around the country in my previous job which was no fun while DD was very small. Really love my job but wish it was better paid - like a PP I'm actually paid less take-home than ten years ago, even though I've been promoted in that time.

whifflesqueak · 19/01/2019 11:45

I work in a pub.

The pay is dogshite but at least the hours are long Hmm

My commute is about 5 seconds though.

notsurewhatshappening · 19/01/2019 11:48

I'm a primary teacher. I job share and my contract is 44% so I get paid 44% of a full time wage. I work 30 hours a week including prepelation, marking, meetings and admin. I absolutely love it although it's hard work.

PoisonButTasty · 19/01/2019 12:11

So jealous of everyone who loves their jobs!
