Is anyone looking forward to it? Did anyone who vote leave happy they voted it? Or regretful?

Actually the queue for non EU passports is normally smaller.

By saying "I voted leave but didn't vote for this" I didn't mean I regret voting leave, I meant I didn't vote for a leave deal that is actually as much remain as possible, a lot of grovelling and begging for permission, all wrapped up with a ribbon on top and presented as if it's what we the people wanted.

PermanentlyExhausted · 03/01/2019 15:04

@Clairaloulou

I'm not a massive fan of TM's Withdrawal Agreement either, although probably for different reasons as I'm a remainer. What would your ideal Brexit look like? How would you like to see it work alongside the GFA?

Ta1kinPeace · 03/01/2019 15:06

The UK trades wit the whole world from inside the EU
Dyson has moved his manufacturing to Singapore to benefit from a free trade deal with the EU
If all immigrants have to be high skilled then the crap jobs will ALL go to Brits

I'm still waiting to hear what the markers of success for Brexit will be

StoorieHoose · 03/01/2019 15:06

I used the language of the PP who said that the ‘EU fucked over British farmers’

As already mentioned on this thread I think US will flood the market with cheap food which British farmers will not be able to compete with. Insist on removing country of orgin of food labels thus removing consumer choice.

Grimbles · 03/01/2019 15:07

Suck it up buttercup. You voted for leave knowing that there was no actual plan for what leave entailed.

You can't hide behind 'but this isn't what I meant'

themoomoo · 03/01/2019 15:08

hellsbells
why all the work related stress when your very first point is that you're going to be made redundant.?
have your work place actually said you're going to be made redundant? And when, 11 pm 29 March?
also, if as you say the economy has collapsed and you're out of work I don't think you need to worry how long the queue at immigration is when you're going on holiday

Itinerary · 03/01/2019 15:11

"An end to British Politicians proclaiming 'We'll never agree to that', going to Brussels, and coming back to sheepishly admit 'We did agree to that'."

^ Yes, this! It only takes one politician on one occasion to sign away another aspect of our autonomy to the EU. This is in a one way direction only (for example EU law trumps our own) until the EU controls everything.

So if we remain and Prime Minister X in 2025 takes us in to an EU army, Euro or total integration, that's it, you can't opt out of them in future. That's a complete contrast to the UK's flexible, constantly updating approach, where laws which no longer suit our country an be modified or ditched, all MPs are working for the benefit of the U.K. and there is always a significant opposition party, unlike in EU politics.

Lweji · 03/01/2019 15:12

Actually the queue for non EU passports is normally smaller.

Perhaps in flights from Europe. That will change.

PermanentlyExhausted · 03/01/2019 15:16

I meant I didn't vote for a leave deal that is actually as much remain as possible.

This, along with the fact that you feel powerless to change anything and are being ignored, would suggest that you should be campaigning hard for a second referendum so that you can make your point of view heard.

I am a typical ignorant, racist (as mentioned before) leaver. I want us to not have to pay billions to the eu, I feel like we fought 2 world wars to maintain our autonomy yet we seem to be handing it out on a plate, I want us to be able to control our own borders, be selective about the people who we let in and who we are able to deport, I want us to be able to stand on our own two feet, make our own trade deals, and not be subjected to the eu dictatorship.

Everyone is so freaked out about the trade deals etc, but I don't believe for one minute that everything will collapse! The eu needs us, for the billions we pay in every year if nothing else. I really think that we need to move our sights inward, and support our own factories, farmers etc. We are not completely helpless!

I am fully aware that there is so much more to it, and leaving the eu has such wide implications, but like I said we are not helpless, Great Britain will continue to stand and the world will not implode!

hellsbellsmelons · 03/01/2019 15:21

I don't know if I am yet.
It depends on the deal the UK do on Brexit.
Lots of positions already redundant and moved over to Europe so if it's a shit deal then they will close the office here.
But that won't happen until after Brexit so I'll still have to do all of that as well.
Fun times!

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 15:22

@hellsbellsmelons - we only get to make a deal if we get the WA through Parliament.

Grimbles · 03/01/2019 15:23

You do know we could do most of that already claira just that our government chose not to?

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 15:25

What @Grimbles said @Clairaloulou .

No I respect democracy, we voted leave and no second referendum is necessary. I think maybe we should be able to vote on the deal, but not another referendum.

I think my main feeling of helplessness comes from voting for parties themselves. In the GE, I felt like my vote was pointless. I will never vote labour but the tories right now are such a bunch of wankers I didn't want to vote for them either, and voting for any of the smaller parties is just pointless.

Ta1kinPeace · 03/01/2019 15:27

I want us to not have to pay billions to the eu
it is 1/200 of UK Government spending - stopping paying the EU will run the NHS for about a day and a half

The eu needs us, for the billions we pay in every year if nothing else
See above
The EU will be just fine without us.

SoyDora · 03/01/2019 15:28

I, and everyone that I know that voted leave, wanted leave to mean leave. For us to stop kowtowing to bloody Brussels, where we are dictated to by unelected "leaders". I fully believe in our country's ability to stand on our own two feet but at the moment our government are making us look like grovelling weaklings. The world will not end if there is a no deal brexit!

But what does that mean, in reality?

Grimbles · 03/01/2019 15:29

The EU obviously needs us more, which is why they are giving in to all our demands.

Wait...

themoomoo · 03/01/2019 15:30

what I love about these threads is that people will harp on and on with tell us some actual benefits to leaving. then when people post examples they're either ignored or get a response of "but what does that actually mean" when it's pretty obvious

Clairaloulou · 03/01/2019 15:30

*Talkinpeace

Ok, it's only a few billion quid, neither here nor there? Bollocks to that, it's our money it's better in our pockets! So what if it is only a small amount of our grand total, it's still billions of pounds!

Lweji · 03/01/2019 15:31

It depends on the deal the UK do on Brexit.

Isn't it a matter of hard Brexit or no Brexit now?

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 15:31

@Clairaloulou
I posted this on another thread in relation to referencing WW2 in relation to Brexit:

Personally, I am quite fond of referencing 1939. I think it demonstrates clearly the futility of Brexit. In 1939 we did not walk away from Europe, we did not turn our back and hide in a corner. We could have made peace with Hitler and abandoned Europe but we didn't

It was clear we were part of Europe and needed to stand up for democracy in Europe. In 1939 we turned towards a European future helping and supporting our nearest neighbours

Brexit will not work because we can not ignore Europe, we can not turn our backs and walk away. We are intrinsically linked to Europe and should take our place at the centre of the discussions and the debates

The lesson on 1939 is to not run away. Brexit is running away

SoyDora · 03/01/2019 15:32

I must be really dim then themoomoo because it’s not obvious to me. I don’t know what ‘stop kowtowing to bloody Brussels’ actually means in reality.

I think it's deal or no deal isn't it. As big a farce as the game show!
